This edger is amazing easy to use and gives great results. I watched youtube videos to see how it works before I bought it. One I bought it I found out it was actually easier to use than the videos made it. The unit is light and very ergonomic making it a breeze to use. It does edges 5-10 times quicker than the brushcutter does and it makes them 300% neater and tidier. I will never do lawn edges again with a bustcutter after using this amazing lawn edger. A 6Ah battery will power it a very long way.

The main advantage of a battery powered edger is that its ready to go and needs minimal maintenance - unlike the petrol powered versions. This unit is good for simple edge trimming where you are maintaining an existing cut. The edger struggles a bit on virgin lawns where it has to generate a new cutting edge. The light weight means it bounces around a bit and its harder to get a smooth and straight edge. If you regularly edge trim then this product will do a reasonable job. Also there are minimal maintenance running costs. A replacement blade is available at a reasonable price from Bunnings but not always available in stock. Get one early and store. The battery lasts about 20 minutes on a full charge - enough for an average suburban lawn. Over time my lawn and nature strip have slowly crept out a little over the edge of the footpath and the warmer weather has really thickened the grass in these areas, so much so that my line trimmer just wasn't cutting it. Constantly stopping to reload broken line. I bit the bullet and bought this edger and boy am I glad I did. It cut through the thick edge like butter. I can now edge easily again with my 18v easyedge trimmer. I suspect I will only need to use the edger every now and again but I'm really glad I bought it. I got a solid 30 mins from a 5ah battery. Very pleased with this purchase. Another great piece of kit from Ryobi

The 18V edger tool was easy to assemble and easy to use; I plugged in a Ryobi that was already charged and I was edging to lawn in minutes. The edger is light to carry and use; with very little practice I was cutting a neat edge to my lawn. I was surprised how quickly I finished edging all my lawns - about 100 metres - in about 20 minutes; in fact, I was a little disappointed when I was done because I was enjoying myself. The battery still had plenty of charge left; the clean up was easy and I hung it up out of the way on a "S" hook in my little garden shed Great!
The cut by the edger is not as clean and precise as a manual edger, but far easier, less tiring and more enjoyable to use. When the grass edge has not been trimmed for a long time, it is hard to find where the grass ends and the concrete begins, resulting in the gardener cutting too far in from the edge of the concrete to avoid scraping the blade against the concrete and damaging it. But after one or two tries I discovered a way to largely overcome this problem. With a trowel, you can every 2 to 3 meters along the grass edge lift the grass to expose the concrete edge. In this way, when you use the edger, you can better judge where the concrete edge is. A final recommendation, you must invest in at least a 5Ah 18 Volt battery. Using say a 2Ah 18 Volt battery from one of your other Ryobi tools does not give enough power for the average suburban garden. 5Ah is more than enough for the average suburban garden. Very enjoyable to use. I am no longer huffing and puffing because I have to use a manual edger. I used to dread having to do my edges, but not now. I feel I am a real professional. In addition, the edger certainly beats spraying the edges with weed killer which I see many of my neighbours doing. It leaves such an ugly appearance.
The 18v edger is a very welcome addition to my Ryobi 18v tool collection. I have a manicured lawn and for years had been whipper snipping the footpath and driveway edges. The edger provides a very crisp and clean line and cut and makes a noticeable difference to the presentation. No hesitation in recommending the 18v edger. It takes a little bit of getting used to like all tools but I quickly got it down pat. Great unit.
I now have 13 tools & love them all. I have a fairly large yard & garden which needs a lot of attention & my Ryobi tools keep my garden tidy & trimmed.I have an autoimmune condition that weakens my muscles but my Ryobi collection is so easy to use & light weight making garden maintenance enjoyable. I even got myself a chainsaw & it keeps my large trees trimmed beautifully. Just purchased the edger & it's awesome. Very happy Ryobi customer 😊
I bought this product yesterday 26 June 2022 from Bunnings with high expectation. Unfortunately I lost all of my hope with this safety issue found when I tried at home in the same day. When working in my front yard, the dirts, rocks and much gross roots and other rubbish thrown out from the edger up to the 10 to 20 meters ahead and nearly 2 meters high, just like snow flakes spreader working in the snow field. My wife was standing in front of me apart from about 10 meters and full of body and hair with muggy, my front wall looks like newly painted with dirts and grass, driveway is full of dirts and rocks, fortunately there were no people and vehicles passing by. Otherwise people will be hurt and vehicles will be damaged. That is the absolute low IQ wrong design ... MoreI bought this product yesterday 26 June 2022 from Bunnings with high expectation. Otherwise people will be hurt and vehicles will be damaged. That is the absolute low IQ wrong design and won’t recommend to any potential home use buyers with limited open space.Strongly recommend Ryobi recalls the products ASAP before IT causes any real damages in public. In addition, there is no signs to follow in the front of the edger, not like ozito edger with two front lines indicators, hard to cutting the straight line while edging, as your observation has been blocked by the motor to see where the front small wheel is rolling to. Funny things don’t understand why there is an arrow on the head pointing out to the backward, Against human habitation design.
Does the job it's supposed to. We used the edger on tough buffalo grass that had not been edged in years. Movement was a little slow at first and used up a lot of battery power but it was understandable given the heavy duty job. Subsequent edging is neater, quicker and easier. In hindsight the 36v edger would better suit our needs but the 18v is good value for what it is. Easy to use for older teenagers and no need to worry about electric cables or petrol alternatives. Would've given full stars for reliability if it didn't use as much battery power.
Bought this tool cause I couldn't justify buying a powerhead + tool for the other systems I use (not sure if I can drop names but 2 brands only available at the dedicated tool shops, one red and one green and grey both tools ending up @ around $500+) just to do minor edging.Luckily I still had my ryobi battery/charger for my ryobi portable soldering station which is actually fantastic. The rest of my ryobi tools I've sold to workmates as they were a bit weak for me and cost me time (which I don't have a lot of).I'll start out by saying: I have really thick buffalo grass that has sent out thick roots over the squared off kerb toward the drain. This tool bogs down and stalls a lot through it (my general experience with ryobi tools so expected) but granted this is ... MoreBought this tool cause I couldn't justify buying a powerhead + tool for the other systems I use (not sure if I can drop names but 2 brands only available at the dedicated tool shops, one red and one green and grey both tools ending up @ around $500+) just to do minor edging.Luckily I still had my ryobi battery/charger for my ryobi portable soldering station which is actually fantastic. This tool bogs down and stalls a lot through it (my general experience with ryobi tools so expected) but granted this is really thick grass and I don't have a lot of edging to do its fine. I'd imagine this would do a really decent job through a softer grass without set in roots. For my uses I'd give it a 3/5 because the power is not there but that's kind of the impression the box gives you anyway. But because the price is so good I have given it another star. I also imagine after the initial taming of the overgrown roots it'll only get easier to maintain but that remains to be seen.
