I used this to punch some holes in my concrete driveway for the Marquee brand gazebo from Bunnings I recently purchased. Its only a thin slab and it punched through it with ease for the anchor bolts I put in. The gazebo aint moving anywhere, even in our SE Qld summer storms ;)The drill itself is light to handle for small jobs around the house or quick simple projects. It doesn't have a side handle you can use to put more pressure and get more stability on if you are going to be punching a LOT of holes regularly. But for my needs - its great!

I did manage to kill my first R18SDS in just under two years, that lovely smell of burning and hot wire. My local Bunnings store replaced it on the spot, so the warranty is really worth its words. I used my drill for DIY mostly in rotary hammer mode and had a routine of using my 5 Amp hour, then 4 Amp hour batteries then fully charging both batteries before using the drill again. Even so, the tool would quite often got hot even with a good rest, so take this as a warning not to push it too much. I think it would be useful if RYOBI could incorporate a resettable cutout to prevent such burnout, or at least advise of a reasonable duty cycle.

I purchased this drill to drill through a 100mm concrete slab. It did it with no problems at all. The drill has way more grunt than my standard drill and I was pleasantly surprised to see the added features to use a chipping bit without the spinning drill. I love that I could purchase just the skin as I already have several batteries from my other Ryobi tools.

I bought this after getting stuck for a drill with some grunt for a small job way away from a mains supply for my normal sds drill. Drilled into reinforced concrete garage floor (5× 13mm x 100mm deep) with as much ease as I would expect from a mains sds. I have also used it too drill some 12" - 9" rendered brick 22mm holes (×5) in a tight space as its fairly compact. 5hr batt did the lot.
I bought this over Christmas but returned, shortly afterwards as it was not working properly the 2nd time I tried to use itDisappointing as seemed like a great piece of kit when it worked but clearly not design for the heavy duty use which is what you want from a Sds?I chased out some walls and was really easy to do as you did not need to faff around with the power cable, but did not properly function later as the knob to change gear from hammer to drill would not engage and remained stuck in hammer mode. Needed to go back to my corded Borsch which has served me well for over 9 years. Thank good for B&Q return policy
Bought this over a year a go. Works well except for one issue. The motor doesn't have overload protection. So when the drill gets stuck the motor burns/smokes up. After doing this a couple of times the motor is gone. Just threw the tool in the bin the other day.Needs overload protection or safetly clutch then its a keeper.
I have a vast range of Ryobi tools, from a complete garden range, to all household power tools, indoor and outdoor that you can think of or would require.Sooner or later I had to buy a bad one. This drill lasted approximately 10 minutes of use before burning out during the drilling of a third 10mm hole in concrete for an anchor bolt.I cannot find the receipt otherwise I would have taken it back.I have had another Ryobi cordless SDS drill for around 10 years and it has never failed me. I was sceptical when I saw there was no additional handle on the drill to provide stability. As a chisel drill only, for light works, it may be adequte. I am rather disappointed, £100, such a waste.
I have a wide range of Ryobi products and, as with most of them, this drill is quite well designed, has good features and is mostly well made - so I have said it is "good quality" BUT I would not recommend it to serious DIYers or professionals. Having a chisel facility on a lightweight cordless sds is very useful and the drill is reasonably powerful but this drill does not have adequate cooling for the motor which runs far too hot, and heavy use will almost certainly kill it - as some other reviews have pointed out. I am looking at modifying mine with additional cooling for the motor and if that works then I think it will be an excellent tool capable of hard work. I am looking at modifying mine with additional cooling for the motor and if that works then I think it will be an excellent tool capable of hard work. As it stands, it is useful for short bursts of lightweight work - drilling and chiselling - but get something better (Bosch, DeWalt, etc) if you need it for heavier work. A note to Ryobi would be to make sure that a basically good design is not spoiled by such a fundamental flaw, and to design a decent cooling system for the motor, which seems to get hot even under light loads. This is not good enough as it stands.
This Ryobi drill is an absolute delight to own and use, it’s very lightweight compared to the old model before it and the brushless motor delivers more power than what I expected. I have yet to experience the tile chisel function but look forward to the opportunity when I do get the chance, as with all the other functions of this drill I’m sure this ability will stand out and impress me without fail.
A staff member in Bunnings recommended this product to me and I am very pleased he did. This rotary hammer is so much more effective drilling into concrete and brick compared to a 'hammer drill' setting on a cordless drill. To go with the hammer I purchased 6 different diameter Kango four head cut drill bits. I drilled sixteen 8mm holes 80mm into a concrete slab a couple of days ago - it is a one-handed job with not a lot of pressure required and it was like drilling into hard butter. I then drilled four 12mm holes into bricks and it was very easy. I work part time as a handyman at a 130 year old school with solid double brick walls hard plastered so anything I attach to walls requires drilling into brick. This rotary hammer makes the job easy.
