Runs intermittently. Have to constantly pull the battery. Light flash and tool stops turning with light use. Tried multiple batteries. The tool is the issue. Only had a month. Go with DEWALT or other quality brand. Not Rigid either. Once my batteries give out, I will be donating. Junk.

I had high hopes for this tool. Many problems were encountered the moment I started. First, it just ate the battery up. Constant stops where I had to pop out the battery to reset it. Thank goodness I had several just to get as far as I did. Then the motor started to overheat after only a few minutes with a heavy burning smell and shut down. Next, the blade lasted for only 3 plank tiles & it was down to just metal with sparks everywhere. Guess what? I could NOT find any 3in blades to buy locally at all, so I had to order them. Another 2 day delay & they are $15 each. Do you see where I am going with this review? Every aspect of this cutting tool was not a good experience. I will be returning it.

It worked well as advertised. I’ve only used it on one job so far. The job was to cut a car coil spring. Tried other methods but the metal was too hard to cut. Could use an angle grinder but, the Ryobi cut off tool I felt was more compact and safer for the job. Built in easily adjustable guard and switchable forward and reverse made the job easy quick and safe. The cut was smooth and straight. The tool did not bog down or cut out during the cut. The spring had a diameter of about 1/2 to 5/8 “ thick and the Ryobi cut off tool did not take long to cut through it. I made roughly 4 cuts and still had a good bit of a 1.5 amp hour battery left.

Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact Cut-Off Tool (Tool Only) is a light duty cut off tool. I've used cut off wheels with an air compressor and found it a good tool to use for metal, tile, rebar and softer materials like drywall, plastic and composite materials. The tool is a pleasure not attached to an air compressor without the noise and trailing air hose. The Ryobi cut-off tool is compact, quieter, and runs on all of their 18-volt batteries. It comes with electronics that provides diagnostics as its running. This is done with the lights on the front of the tool. The light flashes for low battery (3 flashes), overloaded (6 flashes) and overheating (9 flashes). When overheating the tool will also shutdown to cool first before restarting. It is a compact ... MoreRyobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Compact Cut-Off Tool (Tool Only) is a light duty cut off tool. The light flashes for low battery (3 flashes), overloaded (6 flashes) and overheating (9 flashes). When overheating the tool will also shutdown to cool first before restarting. It is a compact tool, a little bigger than a pneumatic one. The pneumatic has an air control knob (mine does) for speed control and this has a variable trigger speed control. The Ryobi also has adjustable safety shields that is a good idea. It covers up the blade that is not being used when cutting. Something new from a pneumatic tool is the blade head can rotate a bit to redirect where the main cover guard better positions the blade on the work. The tool can handle 3-inch blades with both, 3/8-inch and 7/16-arbor holes. It includes two blade washers for the different size arbors. Also in the box are three wheels: metal up to stainless steel, drywall and plastic, and a diamond wheel for tile and fiber cement backboard. The blades are changed out with a lockout button and an included allen wrench that can be stored on the tool. The tool is a pleasure to use. It is lightweight and does an excellent job for a cut-off tool. I tried it out on some metal brackets and was as good as my pneumatic one and better. Also, used it on PVC and it was fast. Couldn't tell if it was the tool or the Ryobi blade, but it is a good combination. I seemed to have more control using this tool with the variable speed trigger instead of stopping to turn the air flow value on the pneumatic. What also helped is I used their larger batteries and had no problems. I own several so can just pop them in and keep going. This is a keeper as you'll find.
I was using it to cut a slot for my reciprocating saw, but only after 5-7 seconds of cutting tool shut off. Pulled battery (P197 fully charged 3 years old first use that day)put back in same results. Try different battery similar results (slightly longer run time)Return to store get replacementSame results, either I got the only 2 subpar ones made or there’s an issue.PS I was cutting through a factory aluminum wheelI’ve been using ruining 18V tools for over 20 years (the blue model)I have over 20
The Ryobi One+ HP brushless cordless compact cut-off tool is a nice new tool in an extensive list of Ryobi One+ products. Already owning a full-sized angle grinder, I picked this handheld cut-off tool up to round out my set. Great for when the full grinder is just too much for a quick use.The box comes with the tool, instructions, and 3 different 3 inch wheels. 1 for metal, 1 for drywall, and 1 for tile. The compact and lightweight design feels great in the hand and provides a long usage without arm fatigue, even with a battery attached. Being able to fit into tighter spaces to make cuts is also a huge plus. The drywall wheel would be ideal for cutting out outlet holes, or cutting away damaged sections of wall for quick, easy repair. The tile wheel comes in handy for quick, smaller cuts when a full-sized wet saw isn't necessarily needed. Finally, the metal wheel would be ideal for cutting of nails, screws, and even bolts. I was able to use the metal wheel to cut through some strut and conduit for a project I was working on, but the 3" wheel size was a little small. I wasn't able to cut straight through the strut, but simply rotating made the project a success. I must say that I was rather impressed by the power that this little compact tool possesses. It cut through my metal pieces very easily!Overall, this is a great product for a wide variety of projects, and Ryobi really hit a homerun with this new line!
I had a 4 x 8 sheet of 1/8” clear acrylic I needed to cut into two 69” x 22.5” pieces.I used a scoring tool on functionally a test section. Because of the flex of the 1/8” Material it did not snap correctly. Resulting in not a clean edge.Using the provided cut off wheel, I made a few test cuts. I just needed to adjust the depth guide. And the result was absolutely perfect.Excellent tool that did its job.
I live in South Florida, where CBS construction homes develop thin stress cracks along the mortar joints. You typically have to fill these cracks with elastomeric sealant before you paint. To give the sealer a better purchase, you have to first open up the hairline cracks by scraping them with some sort of tool. Doing this by hand with a metal can opener is rather tedious. I've used a 4-1/2" grinder before with some success. When I saw this cut-off tool, I jumped right on it. The tool is light weight and easy to use. For my purpose, the built-in depth gauge allows me to set how deep a groove I'm cutting into the wall and it works quite well. After some trial and error, I found was that inexpensive "metal" cutting disks worked best overall. They readily wear out in this application but, they are so inexpensive that they wind up costing less to use than the ones designed for concrete or ceramic tile cutting. The tool is well balanced and it handles well. I'm happy with my purchase. I'm sure it will be useful for its intended purpose as well.
I got this as a gift. Using it to cut auto body parts on thin gauge steel. It will stop working after about 5-10 seconds of cutting and the only way to get it working again is to remove and re-insert the battery. It seems to overload extremely easily, and it's frustrating to have to keep unplugging and plugging the battery to get it working again. It might reset after a while, but I can't wait for a minute after 5 seconds of cutting. It is probably okay for thin plastic, but anything else it is a complete pain in the you-know-what.
We are removing existing tiles for repair. To remove grout we have used a chisel, and hand grout removal tool but they were so slow. The oscillating tool was amazing in comparison, but was using blades quickly. Next up was buying tile blades for the grinder. Instead we decided to get this, which included a tile blade. This was quieter and smoother than the oscillating saw and cut right through the grout. Will it have other uses? It will be my first choice over the oscillating tool in the future.
