One often not mentioned advantage of this boot, is that it's fantastic for flying with. Due to how light these boots are, they make an absolutely fantastic travel companion for a lightweight multipurpose set of boots. I've recommended these and the Speed Assault 2s for years now and my newest pair didn't disappoint. Absolutely love the quick lace feature, and the ability to pack these boots into a pack. Due to how light they are, you'll forget you're carrying them! A quick point on sizing - I've found that most of the Speed Cross or Cross Hike line up runs a tad small. I recommend ordering a half size up if you plan on using thicker insoles or orthotics.

Great all around water proof hiking boot. I have used them in mud, snow and dry conditions. Good grip and waterproofing. I like the easy lacing but it is weird to tuck it in when you are done cinching the shoe.My only real complaint is the sizing is small. I have the Salomon XUltra Goretex hiking boot and I had to size up in this boot. If your worried about in between and you want room to put on a good mid to thick wool sock, size up.I really like how this boot is much easier to clean off if your in lots of mud compared to the Ultra. The ultra has always looked dirty since the first time I wore it because of the small crevices on the outside of the shoe. This shoe is much easier to clean up and rinse off.

I admit to being somewhat biased even it comet to Salomon gear and apparel. That said, not all of their products are great, as you will see below.Now, I absolutely love the look, design AND most importantly, the lacing mechanism.This is absolutely brilliant. Before I bought these, I had a regular pair of Salomon boots and I would have to tie my shoelaces about every other kilometre or so. That’s annoying even in the summer. But with this particular lace system, that is no longer a worry. I just tighten and lock and go for a hike.I therefore highly recommend these hiking boots.

This is my 4th pair of Salomon boots (3 previous pairs of X Ultra 4 Mid Height). For a change, I wanted to try a different design in terms of looks and I also wanted to try the quick lace system; whilst apprehensive of the latter, I shouldn’t have been. The boots are much quicker to get on and off and the lace system just works beyond expectation. Once engaged, snug fit and I particularly like the pouch to store the lace. Super comfy and I love the styling. So far, I have worn them on 3 short walks (7 Km each, with steep incline and gradual decent). Excellent grip and provide confidence on slippery / mud / chalk of South Downs. Early days, but I am really pleased. I was looking for some cool waterproof hikers and I compared and contrasted these against several others.I was sold by the reputation of Salomon, by the (description of) quality of the construction of the shoe, by the style of the shoes, and by the ratings from other purchasers.This things are built like a tank and are waaaay too cool (looking)! My first wear was not on a hike, but just around town, and they are VERY comfortable. I love the quick tie (laces), too!Can't wait to really break them in --- and I am confident they will perform as described.Thank you Salomon, for such a great product!
After 2 months of wear on these shoes I'm extremely disappointed with my purchase. The most frustrating part is that they're so close to actually being a great shoe. The rigidity in the sole, heel and top of the foot is spot on and feels agile and light on the trail, especially for a mid foot striker like me. However, as has been mentioned throughout these reviews, the lack of ankle support and poorly designed upper make this shoe nearly unwearable. The top laces are anchored far too low and are either biting uncomfortably into the tongue when laced tight, or loosely clinging to the upper and unable to be tucked in. These were on sale and looked good in the pictures, so I ordered a size higher than I usually wear. They arrived and fit like a tight futbol shoe with no room especially at the toes. No problem, I thought, I will simply return them for the larger size. But not so easy - I found out that Salomon does not honor the same prices on size exchanges.The sale ended just after I made the original purchase. When I asked customer support if they would honor the sale price on the size exchange, the rep said I would have to order the shoes again (at the higher price) before she could submit a "request." After ordering them again, past the cancellation point, Salomon sent me an email that it would not honor the sales price on the correct size.
I’ve previously stated that I made a judgement error on the color scheme. Black/black/magnet did not mean all black (I think most magnets are black for some reason). For a duty use, these are a tough sell because we require all black boots. I work at night so I’ve taken my chances. The boot is comfortable but doesn’t breathe well. I assume this is because of the gortex but I’ve had gortex boots before that didn’t get that warm in the summer. The lacing system is nice but I’ve had occasional slippage with the right boot. Durability I can’t speak to because I haven’t utilized them long enough. Would I recommend them? Depends on the use. Duty use, probably not because they are not all black. Everyday hiking boot, sure.
I wear a 7.5 (USA) so I bought a size 8; I thougt they were too tight at first, but they fit perfectly ~I walk everywhere through mud, water, wet grass, and these shoes are perfect ~I'm a fan of Salomon boots for 20+ years ~When I say I walk, I mean I walk, and Salomon boots hold up for 3 or more years before I am forced to get anotherr pair ~I plan on purchasing two more pairs of these boots because they are perfect for Spring/Summer/Fall ~They are not a cold weather boot, so keep that in mind ~The only caveate is it is hard to keep the ankle tight, but I'm learning how to adjust the quick lace strings and I lie it a lot ~

My original cross hikes were great and easily the most comfortable boots Ive ever owned, unfortunately they finally bit the dust and delaminated after a particularly long couple of days in Sedona. After finding out they came out with new ones just in time, I was through the moon over the new color options on these and the added new eyelet which fixed the old one's droopy tongue issue.They really managed to ruin a good thing somehow though.The sizing is off on the new cross hike 2, they're no longer true to size, and they are more narrow. I tried my regular size, and sure enough, too small.
