Salomon Men's Quest Element GTX Hiking Boots | Colour: Black/Deep Lichen Green/Olive
The Salomon Mens Quest Element Gtx Boot is a supportive walking boot made for hiking trips and mountaineering. The ADV-C layer situated between the outsole and the midsole which absorbs shock from the ground and helps propel you forward allowing you to cover more ground on all types of terrain whilst ensuring your feet remain comfortable and supported without restricting your freedom of movement. The non-marking Contagrip sole ensures superior traction and grip over a wide variety of terrains, providing performance on both wet and dry surfaces. Gore-Tex is a waterproof and highly breathable membrane that stops wind and rain while allowing moisture vapour to escape, keeping you dry and comfortable. It is completely windproof, meaning cold winds can't pass through and create unwanted cooling. The membrane is bonded to high performance shell fabrics providing durability and further water repellency whilst being seam sealed for complete waterproof performance. An Ortholite sockliner combines an EVA heel cup with Ortholite foam to provide a cool and cushioned environment underfoot. Environmentally friendly due to the recycled tire content, it will also not break down or become less effective over extended use. EVA is a durable foam which can be used in place of rubber in footwear. The lightweight nature of this material produces a high-quality product without the weight and bulk of traditional rubber footwear. It is shock absorbent and flexible for optimum comfort and protection. I purchased these about 2 month's ago. I have hiked about 40k in them, including on rocks in gorges and up very steep dirt tracks. I have also tested them in 6 inches of water. They have been excellent. The ankle support has been perfect for me as I have a weak leg ankle after a few fractures over the years. These are the first boots that have returned my confidence after owning several pairs of the Keen Targhee boots which were way less comfortable and feel apart after just 6-12 months.I would bet much recommend these boots to anyone with weak ankles or where hiking through water on the track. These have been the best by far.The only thing to be aware of is to wear thick socks off you are tightening the leaves around your ankles for a more snug and supportive ... MoreI purchased these about 2 month's ago. Ive been wearing the Salomon Ultra Treks but for unknown reasons they are not sold in the U.S anymore or for the time being. The Elements are a great second options. They are very light compared to the Forces options and comfortable while providing awesome stability and ankle protection. I ordered the black/olive color and they look great. Wish they had a black on black options but not a big deal. Hiking around on these boots as my daily work boot really saves my feet from fatigue and wear. When i have to run in them they are light enough to not affect my speed or stride. I in my early 40's and had knee surgery a couple years ago so the cushion on these elements are perfect relief from the shock cause slips, running, hops down a mountain. I have recommended these to various coworkers and they love them too. At the end of a long work day the comfort makes a difference and alleviates fatigue compared to other name brands such as Lowas. Merrell srongfileds are okay but they are heavy like brinks. My work terrain is so harsh that these boots usually last me from 6-8 months before the break down. Breakdown areas for me are always on the inside of the boot towards the rear. The stitching comes apart and the elements start making its way in. But overall, best boot I have. Along with the Ultra Trek amd boot the Quest prime which i believe these elements are an update to as well as various Forces from mids tops to the very expensive models. I think ill stick to these until the X- Ultra trek comes back. Those are awesome and although high tops they feel like running shoes. True to size I would say. I always go 1/2 size bigger because I double up socks. I get blisters from so much hiking and running.

The boots were sturdy, but they didn't fit well on my foot. The calf area was too high and too narrow, which caused pain around my ankles while hiking.I purchased these boots about three weeks ago. During the first hike, after just one kilometer, I started feeling pain in my ankles. I continued, assuming that they were new and would eventually soften, but the discomfort only intensified. Eventually, I had to unlaced the top section and complete the 15km hike. I had a similar experience during the second hike, so I decided to return them.I must say, the customer service at Anaconda was excellent, though!"

I bought these Salomon quest element boots about 8months ago after previously buying cheaper makes that split after about 6 months. I liked the high cut and have a pair of Salomon trail running shoes that are a great fit (size 9) so thought these would be similar. Wore them couple of time walking the dog just to break them in and felt comfortable straight away, a bit rubbing at top of the boot but this was sorted by just slackening laces at top of boot. I like how the boot holds in place around the middle of the foot so plenty room in toe space and even on steep descents your foot doesn't slide forward so toes don't press against front of the boot. I have done a lot of hill walking over past 8months in all weather and feet have stayed dry even through boggy marsh ... MoreI bought these Salomon quest element boots about 8months ago after previously buying cheaper makes that split after about 6 months. There is no sign of any splitting or sole coming away or burst stitching love the support they give your ankle and amazingly comfortable. Only issue I've found is grip not good on wet rocks and tread has worn down quite quickly on the heals ( see pics) would buy Salomon again but probably quest4 gtx to see if grip on wet rocks any better.
I was really sad about spending so much money on shoes, now I am actually really happy because these shoes make me feel invincible. Nice and grippy soles (not good for slippery rocks! Good for other rocks though and also mud) and the waterproofing is just great. If you’re careful about tucking the tongue when you lace up you can wade through the water pretty much up to the top of the boot. Amazing. Yet they are also VERY lightweight and breathable. My feet normally have a hard time adjusting to new footwear yet I wore these for 6 hours and my feet actually felt GOOD when I took them off. This is my second pair of Salomon shoes (first pair is BBS streetwear collab) and I can say the size and fit is very consistent, They are actually not a bad looking shoe either. ProsThey look really cool, quite comfortable, extremely lightweight and easy to clean. The shoes also seemed to hold up well with waterproofing until they split.ConsFor the price the quality is really lacking. I've found that with my last few Salomon purchases the footwear has fallen apart at the seams after light use, I just completed 10 days of what was a very taxing hike with a heavy backpack on mainly bare rock and scree and the boots have fallen apart - not something I would expect for a product advertised as upper tier. The rubber on the soles is already more worn than an old pair of scarpa boots that I've easily done 10k+ kilometers in. The stiches have split along both sides, making it more likely you'd roll your ankle as the side support is ... MoreProsThey look really cool, quite comfortable, extremely lightweight and easy to clean. It seems like they have compromised on durability while trying to go more lightweight. I think most customers wouldn't notice the difference of a few extra grams for a more durable product but would certainly appreciate not having to purchase a new pair of boots each year. If you plan on doing any intense multi day backpacking trips and want something reliable and worth the price, I'd avoid these boots.
I've been wearing Salomon hiking footwear for around 15 years now. I believe the quality of this brand has dropped over time. However, the fit is still amazing. The reason maybe to using cheaper materials to cut cost and weight in addition to questionably greater environmental benefits. In comparison, leather has been replaced with vinal and other synthetics, Salomon boot laces use to be kevlar now nylon and the list goes on. I don't believe this boot will last as well as my older Salomons. I do believe this boot will last as long or longer then any other brand boot on the market. For me personally the comfort and fit is spot on. Note that it does feel like the sole on the newer boots is quite stiff and rigid which lessons the feel of ground contact underfoot. This isn't ideal depending on ground conditions as the lack of feel impede ability to grip surfaces with confidence. They do have a great sole tread which is excellent for most surfaces. They are waterproof and breathable but no material is breathable once the outer is soaked. They are not the unicorn boot but they're pretty good.
I haven't worn the boots in the bush as yet but l was wanting a hard wearing and light weight boot for the hot sweaty weather hunting conditions in Cape York Qld where my feet will swell inside the boots during my long hunting days.I intend to wear thickish woollen socks combined with a good quality insole to suit my high arch feet.I decided to buy a size larger boot due to the hot weather, woollen socks, high arch insole and swelling feet on my long hunting walks; l'm glad l did as the boots arn't overly large on my feet when first trying them on for size and for this reason l would recommend others consider buying a larger size boot.
Broke mine out today. We live in the very damp Pacific Northwest of the US, so I was a bit concerned about whether the GTX would make muster, but it did. I literally stood in a brook up to my ankles, and the boots interior remained 100% dry. I also have hardware in my left ankle, and a very low arch, so the support in both places was spot on. No break-in is required. They were super comfy right out of the box. Now, the test of time will tell whether or not this boot is worth 5 stars.
