Good shoes but didnt like the blue, light grey and highway cone orange color

Speed cross 5 served me ok I guess, very light and outstanding traction, excellent slim cut fit and attractive design, front of shoe is minimal but is very aggressive. Though rear is very cushioned and thick. The rear isnt the most stable for me it can roll if I loose focus. The cool looking tape failed on multiple points around toe box when used from fall to spring (salmon provided warranty), unlike the previous models that never failed in this way, this isnt surprising seeing how this new tape is very thin and minimal, though state of the art!. I found the treads wore out extremely fast and not very evenly for some reason, Saloman declared it was a defect though. Excellent at climbing steep slope aggressively, even on rocks and boulders the toe provides solid grip and never slips if the stride has intent. If I had a die hard mission I would chose these shoes despite the downfalls, fingers crossed for Speedcross 6.

Good shoes.

I ordered these shoes for running in the winter and light trail hiking. I ordered size 10.5 and i would say they are snug right out of the box. Not too big, not to small. But they will stretch out over time.I have not decided whether i like the quick-lace system yet. It is convenient, but i am not sure i will be able to adjust the tightness like with standard shoelaces. Great at first but quality dwindles over time.

I loved these for the first year. They were comfortable, lightweight, and breathable all while providing toe protection.I first must say i started wearing these as everyday shoes. I'm guessing that is not what they are intended to be. If you walk on concrete sidewalks the treads immediately wear away. As an everyday shoe it is starting to stretch out and becoming very uncomfortable. What was a comfortable shoe has now become one of my least comfortable shoes. If you are buying for tail running it probably will be fine. If you are doing anything on concrete or hard surface just know the tread goes away fast. Also this tread style doesnt do great on wet surfaces.

Great quality but precise fit required
28 September 2022

Solomon trail shoes are sized for a close fit to limit movement and I like that in a trail shoe, however I had to return this shoe and get the wide version. I didn't need the wide version because I have a wide foot; I have a high arch and I needed the extra circumference of the wide version. This doesn't quite work because there is still excess pressure on the top of my foot. I ran several difficult 10k trail runs and found that for that distance that the pressure wasn't a problem. The traction and foot protection from rocks and roots is excellent. The shoe seems very tough with the fabric standing up well to abrasions of sticks and rocks. Factory water repellant is good, though I run in very wet Nova Scotia and the shoes take a beating so regular reapplication of ... MoreSolomon trail shoes are sized for a close fit to limit movement and I like that in a trail shoe, however I had to return this shoe and get the wide version. I’m gutted

After doing some slightly obsessive research, I settled on the speed cross 5 gtx because of their seemingly impressive specs. Unfortunately, they’re possibly the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever bought. I’m a size 12uk and whilst the length is ok, they’re extremely tight in the middle. They feel a bit like the plastic ice skates you hire at the ice rink. I’ve tried to grin and bear it hoping my feet/shoes will adjust but I just get blisters every time: I can’t wait to take them off.The lace design is cool however most of the pressure is at the very top.The heel area is very solid and uncomfortable due to the junction where the goretex lining is. Which is the cause of my blisters and has already showing signs of wear/fraying after only approx 100km of use. ... MoreAfter doing some slightly obsessive research, I settled on the speed cross 5 gtx because of their seemingly impressive specs. The goretex works great. They look awesome but ultimately I feel like I’ve bought an expensive sports car with all the extras, but gives me chronic back ache to drive. These shoes aren’t cheap and I blew my budget on something I can’t wear so will have to find an cheaper alternative :(Wish I could go back in time and spend the money on something else or return/exchange them.Help would be hugely appreciated to find a solution but if not my wife will just remain mad at me for spending so much on something that sits in the closet.

Every Fall, I buy a pair of Speedcross GTX for winter running. The aggressive tread is perfect for running on snow covered roads. In the Spring, I use them for trail running during mud season. Those 4MM lugs bite into the terrain, but are not noticeable on your footpad, which is often the case with a heavy lugged shoe. You will feel the lugs on pavement, as this is a narrow shoe with a high heel (30MM) height, but nobody would use this as a road shoe. It is quite staple, considering the heel. If you are familiar with the standard Salomon fit, you might want to consider sizing up half a size. I have a narrow foot, and the Speedcross fits me better than any other Salomon. My wife wears a size nine in most Salomon’s, but cannot get her foot into a size nine Speedcross. So definitely try before you buy, or make sure you can send them back. While not as nimble feeling as my Adidas Terrex, the Speedcross is a more comfortable shoe and, while heavier than my Speedgoats, certainly last longer. I’ve heard the Goat 5 is more durable than my Goat 4s, but I’m hesitant to try another Speedgoat, given the cost per mile. It is hard to beat the Continental tread on the Terrex, as it seems to last forever. The Terrex is another very narrow show, and some find it an ankle biter, so again, try before you buy.

Salomon Speedcross 5 GTX

As with all the speedcross shoes I’ve had was able to wear them up the hills straight out of the box.Differences (between v4 and v5), and my thoughts/experience:- Lug size increase/change. Seems to make the shoe much more aggressive, particularly going downhill (on rocky/slippery dirt trails).- Shoe feels much higher off the ground than what I recall with previous versions. Definitely is, and by a lot, when put next to my other versions, but of course the lugs on them are well worn down.- Higher collar at the back. Read some reviews saying this caused rubbing for some, I haven’t experienced that.- Got the GT version this time (first time out of 5 pairs). Haven’t experienced any feet sweating despite walking/running 25km a few times in reasonable heat (25 ... MoreAs with all the speedcross shoes I’ve had was able to wear them up the hills straight out of the box.Differences (between v4 and v5), and my thoughts/experience:- Lug size increase/change. Women get all sorts of colour combinations. I had to settle with the pretty boring black/phantom combination.Note: Much credit to Athlete’s Foot. Not only was the purchase price for these the lowest of anywhere I looked, price included delivery and they arrived the next day.

Sooo Comfy! Great Support!

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years, don’t scrimp on shoes! I have really high arches and so I’ve searched far and wide for a shoes that will provide great arch support. I’ve tried all of the name brands, spent hundreds of dollars on the ”top-of-the-line” all to still have to wear my orthotics. Enter Solomon. A buddy of mine recommended I should try them so I hit the local store and bought my first pair. That was five years ago and I’m now on my fourth pair of Speed Cross. They work great as a golf shoe, a running shoe or casual out on the town. Looks especially great with no-show socks and shorts! I no longer have to wear my orthotics. My second pair had a lace eyelet tear through and the pocket to hide the laces on the tongue seemed not to keep the laces laces tucked as well as my first pair. This my second pair was nearly to the end of their life with very little tread left when these issue occurred so they were pretty tired. Build quality between my two new pair seem identical no differences that I can tell.

Terrible Salomon Experience

I bought this shoe since it was high praised by all and advertised as rugged and durable. After being in the box for a month, I took them out on their first outing on an easy groomed gravel trail and then began climbing relatively steep, clean terrain. Immediately the upper portions of the shoe that are welded above the mesh started to peel back and cause flaps. Now everytime i walk in grass or just a dirt patch pieces will get stuck in these flaps and its uncomfortable.Note that customer service is horrendous for Salomon. Even after the short hikes I started noticing wear on the shoe right away. Recommend sticking to paved or graveled easy routes, nothing too advanced.

The SpeedCross 1-4 were perfect for narrow feet...

Updates in the SpeedCross 5 sadly leave us narrow/ low volume feet people seeking a new line of shoes - it's a much bigger shoe! I'm sure the wider/ higher volume fit with stretchy toe box works well for most technical trail runners with normal to wide feet, but so do the majority of other shoes out there - including many other Salomon styles. I know the "squeaky wheel gets the grease," and I've seen hosts of complaints about the SpeedCross being too narrow for most, BUT most shoes are too wide for me and there are very few shoes out there for the low volume narrow fit mens foot. I hope the 6 returns to the classic fit and that the 5 either dies or turns into a new line with a different name. I spent thousands of dollars trying shoes before I found the SpeedCross 1 over a decade ago, and both myself and my feet would prefer to not go through that search process again. Salomon, what shoe (yours or otherwise) would you recommend for those that the the SpeedCross 5 updates fail? My only positive about the shoe is that the larger lugs seem like they'll hold up better on rocky trails.
