Fantastic, waterproof, supportive shoes! I don't think there's anything that I don't like about these shoes. They are easy to slip on, the laces are quick and easy to adjust, the stiffness of the shoes offers a lot of support (if you like support, these are for you; if you like barefoot shoes, they probably are not), the tread is deep for wet and muddy trails, and they have been completely waterproof for me so far (about 2 years of use). Really easy to wash off the outsides since they're waterproof; you can just walk through puddles or streams. I would say true to size, but maybe try out a half size up if you wear pretty thick socks. If you ever need to use ladders, the tread is large enough that you kind of have to slot it onto thinner rungs, but it isn't an issue by any means.

This is my second pair. They are perfect for PNW trail running, mud, rocks, packed trail. Love everything about them except I wish they were slightly more padded and/or we could take out the insole to put in a better one, and the sole needs to be more durable. I never do pavement/concrete and the sole still doesn't last long. Makes it expensive every few months. So I recommend these on sale! They fit my feet well, which are "low volume" feet and on the narrow side of normal. Thanks, Salomon!

I have been a Salomon fanatic for many years now and have always swore by these shoes and convinced many of my friends and family to purchase a pair over the years. I am a keen trail runner and hiker and have had 2 pairs of salomons in the past and all have been great and i wore them that much i wore the tread off! My last pair being worn 3 times a week for nearly 10 years which were amazing! My husband purchased me a pair of these and i was so excited to use them.Disappointingly the plastic structure in the back of the shoe is digging into both of my heels causing it to swell, bleed and blister. An issue that i have never had before in any shoe. To the point on a 4 mile trail run last month i nearly chose to go barefoot half way through! In 8 months I've got two pairs of Speedcross 5 Gortex, and have just ordered a Speedcross 5 without Gortex. The fit is fantastic, the lace system holds up very nicely, the construction is well done, the sole has good flex and the tread pattern holds onto my trails solidly (hillsides and flats with lots of rock, deciduous tree branches, mud, winter snow) and without hesitation. Toe protection has caused me no pain, and overall the shoe is out-of-the-box very comfortable. Between these I got a different style of hiking shoe from Salomon, same Gortex, but with a stiffer sole. (No pic).Both Speedcross 5 with Gortex were returned under warranty. They both failed the water resiliency test, and both developed a foul stench quickly. After several days/weeks all shoes developed a nasty stink. The stink is not specific to Gortex, because a different Salomon style with GTX did not stink. My 3rd pair of Speedcross 5 is on its way as I write; no GTX this time (I really like the fit and performance).I wrote this up once already, but of course Marketing blocked its publication. If they do publish it this time, I'll leave this as my only review out in the wild, and the company will retain my respect for a good quality product with a chemical bonding problem that needs to be addressed (I've a PhD in biochemistry). And if something other than the standard "Thanks for the feedback, please contact our customer service" follows, then Salomon will have an advocate. If they can address the issue that I and others raise about stinkshoe, and in my case water resistance failure, then I'll champion their product.
I cannot rave about this show enough. I have run in mud, snow, through woods, on rocks, accords creeks, over fallen trees, you name it. My feet have NEVER gotten wet! I did take some getting used to the pull string laces. Also, this pair of shoes does sit up higher and have teeth on the bottom of the shoe similar to rubber cleats. The directional rubber cleats really allow you to climb and grip going down. However, step precisely and carefully on trials with rocks and roots. I had to get used to the higher heel, so I rolled my ankle a few times. That was more related to the periods of not running and then running on new shoes. Now I have NO problem! Now I’m looking at a pair of road running shoes.
I am an avid runner in the Colorado mountains. I like steep and uneven terrain. The Speedcross 5 felt a bit different from the Speedcross 4 that I have come to know and love. Right out o the gate on my first 6 mile trail run with about 1700 to 2000 feet of elevation gain I noticed a much higher arch. I was happy to say I had no blisters although the higher arch and more supportive sole was a bit different and I think I like the difference as I could tell it was a more substantial running shoe. Although I have a fairly flat arch I felt it throughout my run but not in a bad way and I didn’t have any arch pain afterwards. My Speedcross’s have over 100 miles on them and still look brand new. I’m not convinced I’ll ever need another pair. They have been all over technical trails in southern Utah and even to the top of dead Womens pass on the Inca trail in Peru. My favorite features are; the gnarly tread (my feet felt steady on mossy down climbs in Orderville Gultch, at the top of Angels Landing on a rainy day and on slick wet rock on the Inca trail), I love the full coverage of the shoe..my foot always feels safe and secure, and I have really liked the lacing system. They are pretty true to size for me (a more narrow Womens 10) but I do have a narrow foot and it has been so hard to find a hiking shoe to fit my long slim feet. I bought a pair of speedcross 5s in July 2021. They were one of my favourite pair of shoes, so comfortable and the best part, they were waterproof. However, after only having them for 15 months I started to noticed the material on the toes was peeling away, exposing mesh beneath it. I contacted Salomon as they were still within the warranty window of 2 years but after countless emails back and forth trying to prove that this was a product fault and not my own, it was determined that the damage was cause by a sharp object…even though the material still continues to be peeling away, and on both shoes!! So I’m now left with a pair of unsightly shoes that are no longer waterproof. The grips on these shoes have been the most significant piece of gear for my adventurous lifestyle. They are lightweight, breathable, and extremely comfortable. (Not one blister from the first wear out of the box!) I've scaled waterfalls, hiked the Na'Pali Coast, and toured every island in these shoes.
