This is the second pair of Salomon shoes I've owned. I bought these because of the comfort and fit I got from the X Ultra GTX shoes. I wanted to get a brighter color so I went with the blue. These do fit longer than the X Ultra GTX and maybe because of the purpose these shoes are built for. These are intended to be a trail runner; which I am not. I'm a hiker and the X Ultra were great at that. These are as well with the aggressive tread; they just fit a little long, but not wider. I ordered these shoes for running in the winter and light trail hiking. I ordered size 10.5 and i would say they are snug right out of the box. Not too big, not to small. But they will stretch out over time.I have not decided whether i like the quick-lace system yet. It is convenient, but i am not sure i will be able to adjust the tightness like with standard shoelaces. I didn't need the wide version because I have a wide foot; I have a high arch and I needed the extra circumference of the wide version. This doesn't quite work because there is still excess pressure on the top of my foot. I ran several difficult 10k trail runs and found that for that distance that the pressure wasn't a problem. The traction and foot protection from rocks and roots is excellent. The shoe seems very tough with the fabric standing up well to abrasions of sticks and rocks. It is hard to beat the Continental tread on the Terrex, as it seems to last forever. The Terrex is another very narrow show, and some find it an ankle biter, so again, try before you buy.
