The XA PRO 3D GTX are trail shoes which have been designed for running in harsh conditions and wetter trails. The SensiFit upper comfortably encloses the feet and is made of water resistant materials such as GORE-TEX. It prevents water from getting into the shoes through the upper. Although the upper is waterproof it is also highly breathable and knows to wick away moisture from the inside to the outside. The Quicklace system ensures an excellent fit and ensures that the laces don't loosen up during your run.The EnergyCell midsole is made of EVA material. This cushioning material effectively attenuates shocks and divides the pressure over the feet. It also returns energy with every step you take and offers resistant to impact shocks during trail runs. The Ortholite sockliner offers extra comfort. The 3D Advanced Chassis, found in between the midsole and the outsole, offers a lot of protection and stability to the feet. The Contragrip MA outsole is very durable and offers excellent grip on wet and loose undergrounds as well as on dry and hard surfaces.

All the benefits of the Salomon Mid Boots, which I’ve had 2 pairs previously, but in a runner version making it more practical for everyday and every activity use. Easy to go from comfort shoe to a short hike without having to change footwear. Super comfortable and handles well outdoors. Only criticism, I would prefer laces to the the quick release system, but that’s a minor inconvenience. Highly recommend.

This is my third pair of waterproof salomons. The previous pair have lasted 8+ years and I am only replacing them because they are completely worn out!I ordered my usual size 5 but they were far too small so I had to get a half size bigger( which are roomy). Shoes have been comfortable from the off and keep my feet bone dry.Only criticism is I find the top part of tongue a bit too bulky.Impressed with service from online 'Extreme GB limited' - they were quick to exchange the shoes and refundreturn postage to my account.

I tried 8 pairs of trail runners before I decided on the XA Pro 3# CS WP. I needed a shoe that would work when I walked on the varied terrain of the Camino de Santiago (3/27 - 4/11) in Spain. Great ankle support, even on the uneven rocky mountain trails/hills, these shoes offered wonderful support and cushion, especially when walking on highways and roads. I walked through muddy bogs, deep puddles, rain, and snow--the climashield waterproof kept my feet dry (along with the merino wool socks I wore). Only once did I feel a little wetness after stepping in mid-calf run-off on a trail--it did not take long for the shoes to dry at all!! Not only that but I suffered NO BLISTERS whatsoever. We walked 6-16 miles daily and 211 miles total!! I was told to buy a size bigger ... MoreI tried 8 pairs of trail runners before I decided on the XA Pro 3# CS WP. So i stayed true to my size 9 and they worked. The wide-toe-box worked wonders for the swelling. I still wear my XA Pro 3Ds almost daily but have now completely worn out the soles. Buying a new pair!!! Love my Salomon's!

I have bought a new pair of XA Pros every year for several years. They have been my go-to trail running shoe. They are comfortable enough I often wear them around town. Unfortunately they have redesigned the tongue / upper. The old tongue was minimalist and almost sock-like. I loved it. It was very cool in the summer and did not rub my ankle. This year the tongue is large and very padded. It is so large that it prevents me from properly tightening the lace system. It rubs my ankle in an uncomfortable way. And it is hot. Sadly I'm going to have to find me a different pair of trail shoes for the summer. I am very disappointed. The new tongue is similar to the tongue in the XA Pro GTX version. The new tongue is similar to the tongue in the XA Pro GTX version. I tolerate the thickness in the XA Pro GTX because I wear those in the snow and the thicker fabric keeps the shoe warmer and keeps out snow. In addition, during the winter I can compensate for not being able to properly tighten the shoe by wearing thicker socks. But I don't see why anyone would want a thicker tongue for a lightweight runner designed to be worn in warm weather.
These seem like a great shoe. Bought them because of all the good things I have heard about solomon. Unfortunately they did not fit me. I usually wear a 7.5 M in a runner, but these were too large for me. I probably should have ordered a 7. Live and learn. This was my first solomon shoe purchase. Although disappointed, I had no trouble finding these a new owner. I did not want to risk ordering another pair from The Last Hunt and have them not fit as well. Too bad they don't accept returns.Anyhow, long story short, if you are considering purchasing these shoes, make sure you size down at least a half size.
I have ran in these EXTENSIVELY for the past 6 months, clocked up a lot of VERY wet and muddy trail running and I can say that not only have they kept my feet dry on every single run, they have also stopped me from suffering with the most excruciating shin splints I’ve always suffered with when I’ve tried “specific running shoes”. They’re so supportive, nice and light and the tread is superb!Sister in law was so impressed with how much confidence mine gave me on steep muddy down hill runs that she bought a pair-and wasn’t disappointed!o think people must have water getting into the top of the shoe because there’s no way the GTX is letting water into my shoes... I will deliberately run through deep standing water and no leaks. Best trailies ever! I will go for these again and again and again.I’ve also ran a 10k in the snow wearing these, feet stayed warm, no idea if they’re actually designed for sub zero running but they’ve really impressed me. Nice one Salomon.
The shoe itself is great--I particularly like the design of the soles--but the lacing system is the bane of my existence. The plastic casing that covers the lace is constantly digging into my instep. I have been trying to wear them and adjust them for over a month at this point, but nothing works. If I tighten them well enough to hold my foot stable, I can feel each of the plastic brackets pressing into my foot through the material. The shoes are designed to be tightened securely, keeping the heel in place; I can't loosen them too much because the foot slips and slides in all directions and rubs in all sorts of places. In other words, I now have a superb pair of shoes that I can't really wear for the purpose for which I bought them...
Purchased for someone with a size 5 foot, these at 5 run large believe it or not! These trail shoes offer terrific support and traction for all-day rough-and-tumble day hikes. Sadly had to return them due to the lace pulls being both nearly impossible to operate from new, we thought these would loosen up after a few hikes but did not happen. Here in the house we have 3 other pair of Salomons with the same mechanism, no problems with them at all and for many years of experience with them no issues, this pair just had defective mechanisms on both shoes (surprising!). Also pay attention: just because the model is "XA Pro 3D" does not mean they are waterproof as these definitely were not. They have to be the "XA Pro 3D WP" or the "XA Pro 3D GTX" if you can find it, well live and learn I guess. Our most recent Mens XA purchase have a GoreTex liner, can't seem to find the same in Women's (only see WP= Climashield whereas GTX=GoreTex) on the REI site. I can find GTX in Men's but not Women's on the REI site.
I have had a dozen pairs of Salomons. I bought this pair in Halifax in May as my regular store in Qualicum Beach BC has closed. Our flight stopped in Calgary for a few days so I looked there, with no luck. I have worn 8.5 ladies before. When I tried these on in Halifax I thought they were a tiny bit short, but wore them around the store for 20 minutes before purchasing, as I was travelling I left my other pair in Halifax when we left alternating the floppy old ones with these new ones. Comfort is outstading as always but there is another issue. While the length causes a tiny bit of discomfort on my right big toe. I would want to go more than 5 k in these. I’ve been alternating new ones with an even older pair of XA 3D ultra 2 size 8.5. The bigger issue is I can not ... MoreI have had a dozen pairs of Salomons. I have never had an issue with the Salomons in this way. I could jump in and walk away, they would easily slip on. I live in my Salomons 12 months a year. This becomes an issue at the pool and other places when I need to remove my shoes! I’ll be checking MEC for new ones in October when I’m in Calgary again. I hope there is lots of stock to choose from with the new South West Store now open.
This is my second pair and I'm very happy with this investment (been using this type of trail runner for 4 years now). Slap on a pair of water tight gaiters and you have a hiking set up for nimble, fast moving walking through anything nature brings your way or just use on their own for a quick hustle over rough terrain. They are not the most lightweight shoe out there but they have very good, stiff support... so for people like me (flat footed with extremely flexible ankles) the foot is comfortably contained and minimizes a lot of extra foot movement. The GTX option is definitely worth the extra $ the moment you plunge into unexpected water and find you foot emerges with little or no wetness. I will say the break-in for this shoe was a little tough because of its rigidity... a few blisters later and my second pair is now just a great as the first. PS if you are going for a more remote adventure pick up a replacement lace pack just in case... the cable-style laces makes it a little more difficult to improvise in nature.
