I will start by saying I've had multiple pairs of Salomon shoes over the years and have generally been happy with them and their durability. These did not last tho. After only about 30 miles in them the soles are peeling off. Because of how they're peeling they're no longer comfortable to walk in and trip me up. For the price it's a total bummer. Would have expected to have gotten more than a few uses out of them. I have other shoes that have hundreds of miles and are still great.

This is the 3rd Salomon shoe I have bought and loved. I bought the first pair in Mexico immediately before traveling to Peru where I walked a lot (including to Machu Pichu). I did not have any time to test or break these shoes in and they were so comfortable right out of the box that I have been hiking in Salomons ever since. On this pair, the pocket where you tuck in the laces is underneath the top laces making it tricky to get the little plastic thing in the pocket w/o loosening the laces. Otherwise, these are great. The pair I bought right before these did not fit quite right but the return was easy.

Great on gravel

I run primarily of gravel farm roads which basically means a rough and uneven surface with lots of sharp bits poking you in the feet. Not the best, especially given I have a view of the Gatineau Hills os West Quebec with many kilometres of wonderful trails! But, I can let my dogs off leash on the farm roads so….Anyway, I searched online for “ best running shoes for gravel” and the Pulsar came up.So, I tried them out today on my usual gravel grind and was so happy with them! Lightweight, comfortable, great arch support, ample room in the toe box (this is important since I am a “black toe” runner). Best of all, the pointy rocks and loose sand smoothed right out! Also great traction for accelerating into the last chorus of Footloose!I am usually an 8 in Salomon, ... MoreI run primarily of gravel farm roads which basically means a rough and uneven surface with lots of sharp bits poking you in the feet. Great trail show
7 July 2023

I have purchased two pairs of the Pulsar trail so far. Previously, I was wearing the Ultraglides, but switched to the Pulsar trail because of the energy blade. The toebox feels a slight bit smaller than the Ultraglides, but the energy blade prevents my small toes from hurting on long runs. Great trail shoes. I have worn them on many rocky runs through Tennessee and they do well on those trails. One improvement would be in the pouch for the lacing system. It is too high up and not really functional to hold the strap.

Issues with upper & laces
14 November 2023

I returned these. Disclaimer about the following: if you’re not running or hiking down long vertical drops, these shoes are probably great.Shoe felt great on, felt like it would be a good shape, but my biggest issue with most trail shoes lately is a very soft upper and little rigidity to hold your heel back so you don’t slide forward in the shoe going down hill (everything near my house requires going out of and back down into a canyon, and they can be long descents). So I returned to the Salomon brand from some other popular brands in the hope of finding a decent shoe with a bit more structure built into the upper that was lighter than an XA and didn’t have a huge differential like the Speedcross.Seemed promising out of the box but as soon as I wore these ... MoreI returned these. They needed to be tight to feel like the shoe was hugging my foot enough but the upper is just too soft to spread the pressure around the foot. The XA and Speedcross lines have the construction to deal with the thin Kevlar laces much better.

Love these shoes
29 September 2023

Finally got to really give these shoes a workout. Hiked 72 miles in them in the Canadian Rockies on a 7 day trip. I love these shoes! I had the Speedcross 4's before these and they lasted several years and lots of hiking miles. These are just as good if not better. Very comfortable and they excel in pretty much every terrain. I'll keep getting these for hiking. I don't trail run, but if I did these would be great for that too.

My favourite trail runners, almost perfect!
2 July 2023

I love the Pulsars - they’re the most comfortable trail shoes I own (and I own a lot). They’re great -and I’ve used them- for anything from an easy 5km trail to a technical 50km. The only thing I really wish they had was the sock fit at the top that the Pulsar Pros have, but I unfortunately don’t find the upper of the Pulsar Pro to be nearly as comfortable as the Pulsar. I also like the Ultra Glide, but don’t find them quite as good on technical trails as the Pulsars and a little less roomy in the toe box. My first pair of Pulsars have about 600km on them now so I've just bought a second pair.

Salamon never disappoints - outstanding performanc
24 September 2023

I recently purchased the Salomon Trail Pulsar running shoes, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! These shoes are incredibly comfortable and provide excellent support while running on trails. The traction is outstanding, giving me confidence on various terrains. Plus, the design is sleek and stylish. I highly recommend the Salomon Trail Pulsar shoes to any avid trail runner!

Salomon Speedcross 6 offers the same great shoe with a wider toe box and lower heel stack height. Great color combinations as well!
17 July 2023

I like the wider toe box in the Speedcross 6 as opposed to the Speedcross 5. I have a narrow foot so this shoe fits me perfect and now my toes can splay a bit. Lots of comfort and super grip. The color combination has certainly improved and I have received compliments my first time out. I also like the lower heel stack height.I do wish Salomon would lower the 10mm heel to toe offset though.

almost there, but needs work
4 August 2022

I used these shoes for hiking and have worn them on several day hikes from 10-30 km long. The cushioning is fantastic - my feet were comfortable all day, even at 30 km. The grip is okay, but certainly not the most stable. They almost remind me of the XA Elevate, which was, in my opinion, the best shoe Salomon has ever made (RIP XA elevate, I miss you). Except the grip on the elevate is unmatched. Here are my grievances/ suggestions:1. Toe Box - the toe box is very narrow, with the apex near the centre of the foot. I found the side of my big toe was rubbing on the shoe, which caused a blister. I have never gotten a blister in a Salomon shoe before and this is my 5th pair. I have never gotten a blister in a Salomon shoe before and this is my 5th pair. If the toe box was slightly wider and the peak moved slightly toward the big toe (rather than the centre of the foot), it would be perfect.2. Foot hold - I found my foot slipping forward on the downhills no matter how tight I made the shoe. I considered sizing up to address the first point, but this made the foot hold issue worse. I think the quick lace system on the pair I got may have been faulty as well, since I noticed it often loosened up, which further caused my foot to slip.3. Ankle rubbing - I found the back wing of the shoe and the parts that sit below my ankle to rub. This caused irritation, since I wear ankle socks to hike. If the parts around the ankle were lower, particularly the back wing part, that would be awesome!4. The grip - as mentioned earlier, the grip was okay. If this is advertised as a trail shoe, I think Salomon should commit a trail grip. 4.5 mm lugs would be stellar.I think Salomon is really on to something with this shoe and I hope they continue to make new iterations. A lot of people use trail runners for hiking/backpacking, and I think this shoe could be a real contender for that arena. But for now, the above mentioned points make the shoe uncomfortable/ unwearable to me. Can't wait to see how this evolves though.
