Almost perfect boot

Wear them winter or summer. My only criticism is the speed lace locking clasp. I have three other Salomon shoes with the same mechanism, and none slip, however the clasp on these boots slip and loosened over time during initial use. I think the loosing may have occurred due to the rubber pulling tab having to be placed in the same pouch as the locking clasp, unlike my other Salomons. The pull tab may possibly be rubbing against the clasp and releasing it. I’m finding if I am more careful in where I place the tab, there is less, if any slippage. Anyhow, certainly not a deal breaker and I’d readily buy these masterpiece boots again. Highly recommend. - 1 star only for the finicky clasps.

If you stand for hours at a time on a regular basis I would not recommend these at all. For patrol use I think they bridge the gap between tactical boots and tennis shoes very well in my opinion. However, I have had a love hate relationship with these shoes so far. My first issue was the inner stiches on the seam that runs down your inner ankle. There was a slight knot on the right shoe that caused some pressure point pain to my ankle. I eventually found that knot and was able to manipulate it enough to fix that problem. Now my biggest complaint with the shoes are the laces. I like the lace system but it does take some time to get used to. I found myself at first lacing them too tight because I read some reviews of them loosing up which I have noticed only a small amount. Therefore I now lace them like normal and resolved that problem. My number one complaint which is infuriating is that the laces essentially squeak on the lower eyelets of the shoes EVERY SINGLE STEP I TAKE. The left shoe for whatever reason is significantly louder than the right but both still make a squeak/rubbing noise every time I step that comes from the laces. I have tried to tighten the laces to prevent the rubbing which made the shoes uncomfortable and did not help as well as tried to wear them looser which again made no difference. From what I can tell the upper eyelets have an inner plastic piece that allows the laces to glide in them easier and reduces the friction/rubbing noise however, the lowest or bottom eyelets does not have that inner plastic piece. I am to the point of attempting to use gun oil or inject grease into the eyelets in order to try and stop the squeaking. I want to love these boots however, they are making it hard too. If anyone has a solution to the squeaking please let me know so I can finally enjoy them to their fullest potential.

This is my 3rd pair of Salomons I've owned, and I will continue to buy this brand because they are always comfortable right out the box. I thought these were going to be narrow, but they fit fine, as I usually buy wide size boots. These have nylon mixed with some leather, and the feel is pretty durable, I don't plan on raiding another country, or hiking dozens of miles so around town, they will do just fine. The speed lace system these have are so easy to use, and speedy. I can actually put these boots on while standing, just slipping my foot into them, and with a pull of the lace, its perfect for the rest of the day, and you just tuck away the lace in its own pouch incorporated into the tongue of the boots. I dig these boots, and would recommend them any day. Good boots but
24 May 2024

I’m a street police officer and have used these boots exclusively for years. They support your knees and back better than most boots I have used. They are not waterproof FYI. Here’s the but. Over the last couple years these boots have become very narrow and about 1/2 size too small. I’m not sure if they started manufacturing them somewhere different but because I have flat feet and weigh about 220 the last couple years they have actually been very uncomfortable to wear. I was not going to purchase another pair until I saw they were now offering a wide version. I just bought a pair of 10 1/2 wide and they fit like they should and are comfortable. But in order to have them fit properly I had to buy wide and also 1/2 size up from what I normally buy. Just FYI.

Great Shoes But They’re Expensive Here
15 October 2024

Right after I bought them, I got excited and watched reviews on social media. People talked about the price which was more than what I paid. I went to Amazon and found them nearly $70 cheaper. The shoes themselves are GREAT! The lace system makes going to work so much easier. They’re waterproof yet you can feel air running into your shoes if you’re sitting in a car walking around. The souls don’t need to be replaced. I don’t even know if you can replace them. They are extremely lightweight for what they are. I’m glad I switched from regular tactical boots to these. My ankles feel great. There’s no issues putting the shoe on or standing in them all day.

Horrible ordering Experience
6 December 2023

When searching the site for these boots- as they were recommended- I encountered that instead of having medium and wide option on the boots they only said medium with no option to choose a wide version. So this is the only shoe site on the planet where you actually have to search by putting “wide” in the search line. I placed my order and decided to try a medium as I thought that was the only option available. The boots were too narrow and once again no other site has such stupid rules- I can’t exchange them! I have to place a new order and can’t get the sale price I originally paid for without calling customer service after I place a new order and get the sale price refunded. Nope
23 April 2024

I have been a big fan of the x ultra 3, bought 3 pairs of them, they were the best. Got x ultra 4, not as comfortable so I bought these. Big mistake. It feels as if I am walking with a rock attached to my foot, the soles are hard as bricks, the insoles give no cushion at all. Also the I like the drawstring lace for convenience but it doesn’t feel as if it holds my ankle tight enough. I run tracking dogs through all types of terrain and after two days of these my feet are killing me. A waste of good money again to this company. I can say I do like the all black coloring and for running through a lot of the tough areas I’ve been they hold up well so the durability is great but them dogs going be barking!!! Ouch!

Poor Sole Construction Causing Foot Pain
19 June 2023

I bought a pair of XA Forces from a local retailer. I originally bought a size 10 standard width shoe. The left shoe had a seam stitching that runs under the sole that I could feel protruding up and into the blade of my left foot. I thought the shoe might be too narrow so I returned them after a few days. Since the retailer did not carry a size 10 Wide, I purchased the new pair directly from Salomon and had them shipped. I tried them on and felt the same issue on the left shoe. I don’t know if I got both shoes from a bad lot, or if this is a common issue nobody is reporting, but I just chalked it up to a loss. The traction and dexterity of the shoe is great! But even with infrequent use, the sides of the shoe have turned from black to grey where my feet come into contact with the vehicle floorboard/footwell area. I really wanted to like these shoes, but I was left disappointed.

Very Comfortable boot/ one design flaw
21 March 2024

The one design flaw this boot has is the metal ring that the shoe lace goes through at the top of the shoe. If there is any ware or damage to that metal ring it can shred the shoe lace making it virtually useless. I replaced the laces on my boot three time before just giving up. If you can figure out how to solve that issue this boot is worth it.As you can see in the picture just a little damage or warp to the metal ring can cause damage to the lace. For reference to how long it takes for damage to set in. I bought this boot December 19, 2023 and the damage happened in March 2024.But over all a very good boot that can last a long time if you are not hiking in the middle of the desert everyday like. me.

My foot is exactly 28.4-28.7cm long, size US 11.5 (male) is very good.Slightly tighter toebox than the x ultra forces mid, although the big toe just barely touches the side when splayed out. I'd prefer a touch larger but the overall fit is very acceptable.Same insole as the x ultra forces with mild arch support, I would prefer a plain flat insole. Insole is removable.Shaft is thicker, feels a little insecure, slips slightly up and down while walking.Quicklaces are finicky, they have to be really tightened to keep the shaft secure on heel, but then the tongue presses into the shin pretty hard.
