Awesome light weight and very breathable shoes
These shoes are lightweight, breathable, and super comfortable. Salomon makes great shoes. These are another great pair. They are my weekend shoes. I work construction and wear boots during the week, but the weekends my feet get a comfortable break and releaf from heavy work boots. This are like feathery pillows for your feet but aren't to soft for hikes, trails and climbing hills when its dry out. If its wet out your feet will get wet very quickly but are a great dry weather summer shoe. If you don't want wet feet. Try a the Salomon speedcross 4, but the 4s I find my feet getting too hot in the summer time. So I switch between these shoes though out the year.... Show more

Great shoes!
I bought a pair of these in the spring on the recommendation of an MJ employee after I struck out on finding a boot that I liked. I was looking for something that would work for general hiking but also for backpacking. I now have over 200 miles on them with more than half of that on trail and most of that with a full backpack. I was on trail for 10 consecutive days and never thought about my feet or these shoes, so they definitely did the job. I wear them all the time now and will consider them for my next pair.... Great Shoes
Great shoes - had for 60 days now and use for everyday wear as well as for day hikes in roots/rocky mixed terrain trails in North Vancouver. This model had a bit longer break in period that lighter constructed shoes or lower XA models. Hard to believe you could run in them at first, but once they are broke in you could see it. Also have found very little, if any, stretching to them so choose the size exactly right at fitting... Show more

Great shoe! Stable, protective, excellent grip!
I bought this shoe for an upcoming hiking trip to the Dolomites of northern Italy. This was the first time I have worn this model, but I have worn several other Salomon trail runner shoes in the past. I have a narrow foot with a low arch and these shoes fit me very well. I have owned three versions of the speedcross, which is a show I love to run in, but the tread of the speedcross is not the best for rocky or gravelly terrain, which is the terrain in the dolomites. I found the XA Pro 3D V8 to be perfect for the terrain and surface conditions. The grip is excellent on rock and gravel, the tread is more durable on rock and gravel, and the shoe is a little more stable and protective for those surfaces and ground types as well. I think if I was going to be running a long distance (10+ miles) I might go with something that has a little more of a rockered shape, to propel you forward.... Show more

Most comfortable shoes ever!
I have been a Merrell guy for a while thinking they were the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. That is until I wore these shoes. They are by far the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I have to add additional orthotics in my shoes usually since I have plantar fasciitis. I don't need to with these shoes!... Show more

My favorite shoe to keep buying again and again!
I bought a pair in a store almost a year ago that were half a size too small and promised myself to buy a bigger pair of the same kind. I accidentally ordered a blue pair instead of a green pair but that turned out to a great mistake! These are my new favorite shoes and new favorite color and this pair particularly is breathable when the last pair was waterproof and not as breathable. Speed lace's are the way to go! Why go back to shoestrings after having a pair of Salomon's?... Show more

Not the quality thye used to be...
Salomon quality has dropped enough that this will be my last pair. Flimsy insole that scrunches up underfoot when the shoe gets wet, even less new tread depth than the last pair, and they wore out faster than the ones I had before... so rekon 6 months for these maximum. Nope.. looking for a new brand next time. Pity as I always rated Salomon shoes until the last year or so.... Show more

Solid but very changed
I have worn the Salomon XA Pro 3D for many years. They have taken up many mountains, given me trail PR's and helped me summit 14ers.This v8 is not the same shoe as we are led to believe. I don't know why shoe companies seem determined to changed shoes that are loved, but they do. This v8 is slightly lighter as described. That weight loss is small and unnecessary. But it not the same. It felt different and looked different so I measured the shoe with my caliper. It is narrower and a bit longer. It feels a bit less stable (But that is only because the last version was amazing. So tough comparison.)Sizing is odd. I listed that it fits smaller. It is longer, but a little more narrow. Your toe will have more space, but it is not wider, so it would not work to go 1/2 ... Your toe will have more space, but it is not wider, so it would not work to go 1/2 size down unless you have narrow feet. That slight length in the front gives a somewhat clumsy feeling. It also makes the lacing a little less comfortable. I loved the glove like fit of the old version. The older shoes were perfect on the mountain. Great traction, fit, support, and ruggedness when scrambling. The v8 is not the same. They do not feel quite as stable and ready for the fast mountain climbs and descents as the previous version. That is my estimation based on what I need and what I do. Yours may be very different.I just wish companies would stop changing loved shoes.I would love to find the old version of this XA pro 3D.... Show more

Very likely the best shoe I have owned
This is my second pair of what I consider the very best hiking shoe, and perhaps the best shoe of any kind that I have owned. I don't use them for running. I put thousands of miles hiking on my old pair of Salomons, I still have them as backup. After three years of hiking nearly every day, the tread is mostly gone and water comes in from the sides. Otherwise they're still wearable in dry conditions that aren't too steep. I find the durability of this shoe remarkable, as other shoes have worn out after 3-6 months of this kind of use. Now that I'm wearing my new pair, I don't slide even on frost, and they remain dry when walking through wet grass. These Salomons have a loosely knit top which allows the release of heat & water vapor from the top of your foot. Great warm weather shoe. Conversely, water will pour in from above. Rather than purchasing a waterproof hiking shoe for wet weather, then returning them when you discover such a shoe doesn't exist (as I did with a pair of Keanes and a pair of Merrills), I recommend buying these Salomons and covering them with full-length waterproof gaiters.... Wide toe box, not like Salmon, not great for trail running. Hiking shoe.
Unlike other Solomon shoes, these have a wide toe box, which was surprising. I usually fit Salomon well, but not these. The bottom is stiffer than I would like, and because of the wide toe box the "lace" eats into the top of my big toe. Not a big fan, much prefer the Ride Sense for trail running. These are more for hiking.... Show more
