The Salomon XA Pro 3D v9 is a technical trail shoe that is suitable for challenging trail routes. Trail runs with many elevation meters and challenging surfaces such as muddy paths and routes with many boulders. This shoe has a wide last (Wide). This model is suitable for people with wider feet, whose feet become too tight in a regular last. Adventure awaits with this trail shoe, ready to accompany you on rough surfaces! Midsole During longer trail runs you can comfortably cover kilometers with the EnergyCell+ foam, a soft foam that provides a lot of energy return due to the good cushioning that the shoe offers. The 3D Advanced Chassis is a sturdy frame that is located between the midsole and outsole. The frame protects the lower foot, optimizes your movement control and ensures a more stable walking gait. The frame provides a stable base for the foot, which is especially important when moving on uneven terrain in nature. It helps stabilize the foot and reduces the risk of sprains or injuries. Upper Finally, the shoes are equipped with the Quicklace lacing system, so your laces will never come loose while running. You also no longer have to worry about laces that can get stuck in branches while running. A mesh upper makes the XA Pro 3D breathable and provides a comfortable wearing experience. The toe area is reinforced to protect your toes from sharp objects. Outsole The Contagrip All Terrain outsole is designed to allow you to run with confidence on varying trails. It offers optimal grip, both on wet, loose surfaces and on dry and hard surfaces. The sole adapts to any surface without sacrificing grip, a real all-rounder. I’ve been using this model or its predecessor for a long time for off trail hiking, technical and non technical scrambling. They don’t hold up. Fabric tears near toe box and they lose their waterproofness rapidly. At best they are water resistant out of the box. It’s too bad Salomon hasn’t addressed these issues because it’s been this way for a long time. I love these shoes but giving up on Salomon as their warranty isn’t sufficient to address these issues with a number of models.Same experience

I have worn these for several years. About six months ago, I started to develop issues with both of my big toes, especially on my right foot. I recently visited with a DPM (podiatrist) and brought these shoes along with me. I told him how comfortable they were and how much I loved the durability and speed laces. He zeroed in on the fact that the lacing originates right on top of the portion of the toe box where my two big toes were located. Sad to say, I may be switching over to a Merrell shoe.

I've owned five pairs of the XA Pro 3D V8 shoes and now I have the V9 and I'm still just as happy as with the previous pairs. I've owned other Salomon shoes but this series is the best of all. The fit is superb and the toe box is roomy. This shoe is at home on most trails and all day at Disneyland. This is the non-Gor-Tex version and is more breathable and cooler for warmer temps. The only petty complaint I have is with the product photos because the shoe is lighter than what the photos show but I still like them.

Best boot for serious rock trails
7 March 2024

I'm 68 and hike Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, AZ every day for well over twelve years straight. I hike it twice, my FitBit showing a total of 2400' gained and 6.5 miles. The rock trail has destroyed or delaminated every lesser brand. The XA Pro doesn't just hold up better than any other boot, it also sticks better to the 70+ degree angles and sharp exposed edges. The Sense Ride 5 sticks just as well, and I wear those on lighter trails, but Camelback has many points where squeezing your toes into crevices is required and the XA Pro has thicker sides and toes.A group of regulars convenes for sunrise every morning. Best for rough terrain
31 December 2023

I've hiked Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, AZ USA every day for well over a decade (6 miles, 2,400 ft elevation). It's the toughest urban hike in America (in the middle of the city). The terrain is all granite, rough, and it shreds shoes like a meat grinder. I've tried many brands and styles and ONLY the XA PRO 3D holds up with both grip on the steep rocks and long-lasting tread. I recommend them to everyone!Analysis: Merrills hold up but don't grip as well; I've seen Brooks delaminate in less than 100 miles; Hoka and La Sportiva don't hold up.

Great hiking shoes; be wary of lack of durability
23 August 2024

Have worn Salomons for years and purchased the XA Pro 3D V9s for a 2-month trip to Spain. We spent 6 weeks this summer walking the Camino de Santiago. The shoes (bought 1/2 size up) fully met my expectations for comfort and traction on the numerous surfaces during the multiple back-to-back days of walking. The average rating is due to that lining of the interior of both heel ripping out. I required duct tape for the last 2 weeks.

Nice shoe but durablity issues
13 October 2024

Like other three-star reviews, I basically like these shoes and I keep buying them. I am on about my fourth pair. HOWEVER, durablity is an issue. The interior heel area breaks down long before the soles wear out, or even show much wear. This has happened for my current pair, and prior pairs. I can't say this issue is getting worse over time, but it certainly isn't any better. That said, they are extremely comfortable. I these are my "urban hiking" and daily wear shoes and I am 75% on paved surfaces and 25% on gravel, grass, etc.

Poor Quality. Wears out quick. DO NOT BUY!
5 January 2024

I have been using this model of shoe for over 10 years now and I have seen a gradual progression to a poorer quality shoe. I have never had any problems up until the current model. After a few months of wear, holes have formed in the outer mesh around the fold line created while walking. This has never happened with any of the previous models I've owned. I feel no thought has been put into making the shoe good quality, instead they have focused more on aesthetic appeal.I definitely do not recommend buying this shoe. There are many other trail runners out there, which are higher quality, at lower prices. I think Salomon dropped the ball on this one.I did reach out to them to let them know about flaws in the new shoe, but they didn't seem to care about my input.I ... MoreI have been using this model of shoe for over 10 years now and I have seen a gradual progression to a poorer quality shoe. wide-fit looks like 2E width only
13 November 2024

I bought the 8.5 wide-fit gore-tex model online. However my wide feet have 4E width and the shoes were still too narrow for me. I also noticed that the new shoes were very very stiff, I am not sure if these would 'soften' with more use.I went to a store to try bigger sizes, wide-fit sizes 9 and 9.5 were still too narrow for my feet.I had to return the shoes. These wide-fit shoes may be more appropriate for those with 2E width feet.
