Almost perfect, but a fatal flaw ruins this screen

The refresh rate works great, the HDR works great, the size is great. Everything else about it is great...but that deep sleep completely overshadows everything else. I've had to resort to downloading 3rd party programs to try to be a band-aid for this problem, but they're obviously not a perfect fix and there's still some extreme annoyances.

So, when you're wanting to play Xbox, you would go to the gaming section on the home screen and select either the physical Xbox that's connected or launch the Xbox Cloud app to stream games. My only real complaint with this monitor is that the stand isn't adjustable. I'd like to raise it just slightly higher. It is at a pretty good height, but I would like it just a little higher for my personal preference.

Excellent monitor, Poor documentation & Support

(See below for my customer support / sales support exchange in attempting to use this monitor for which I purchased it — video calls with zoom and Messenger. Ultimately, having to connect the camera to my MacBook and the MacBook to the monitor via hdmi. These are my findings. If there are ways around these short comings, I was unable to find Google articles or support documents - either missing or failed worked to make them work. ——1) I think the smart features are A) missing important apps that most customers would need: Facebook, Messenger, and Zoom (note you can access via the internet browser but the browser will not allow access to a webcam!) B) half-baked, poorly documented and customer sales support is woefully uninformed a) I tried to follow the instructions to setup a Google Meet, but every set of instructions I followed did not allow me to setup a new Google Meet account on my iPhone and/or iPad.. This would likely be a call to support, but it is not Google Meet I really want to use. Everyone I am meeting with uses Zoom or Messenger Video Calls. B) The mobility app refuses to allow me to fully connect from my iPhone and iPad. They are all on the same Wi-Fi network but they fail to display the screens. I had to purchase screen mirroring apps to display my iPhone and iPad screens on the monitor wirelessly or use a hdmi cable. C) No way to download apps via an App Store Video WebCam Experience: I knew from reading Amazon q&a that the camera wasn’t included, but I waited until I received and setup the monitor before selecting one. Also note that in all of the manuals there is nothing that mentions which cameras are supported and which are not. Nor does it mention that there are only 2 ways / apps that even use the camera. Upon receiving my webcam, I plugged it in and couldn’t get it to recognize that I plugged it in and selected the connect a device - web camera. It instead displayed a message “connect a supported web camera…and listed several Logitech 9xx & StreamCam models and 2 Samsung models. And referred to a document on the web that listed supported cameras. The instructions on the monitor are not current and point you to missing documentation on the web. I called support to see what I must be misunderstanding. The support agent that answered is the only person from whom I received any real support. She confirmed it was missing and said that this isn’t a support call but customer sales support, gave me the number to call. Ultimately, I ended up returning my camera because I could not get anyone to confirm whether it was supported or not…after 2 hours of being passed from one team to another 5 in all and the last one was to pass me to the correct team…15 minutes later my call was dropped. After ordering and receiving the Logitech StreamCam, I tried to connect and use the supported Webcam, but I got the same screen instructing me to plug it etc. But this time, I decided to try differently. I went further and discovered I could get it to activate if I wanted to see myself alongside a video ie exercise see&do. This established the webcam is recognized and works under this scenario. But not very helpful for video calling. Ultimately to use webcam for Zoom or Messenger I had to connect it to my MacBook Pro and the MacBook Pro to the monitor. It limits where and how I use this feature.

Great graphics, poor build quality
8 January 2023

It has been a little over a year since I purchased, and out of warranty and out of support. Purchased this monitor after friends recommended Samsung and I have had Samsung phones for the last 13 years and love them. A few gripes I have about the monitor...the button layout sucks, toggles for monitors just shouldn't be a thing. The fact that it has a USB to connect but nothing ever seems to care and if I try to check for updates it says there is no USB so there is that. After I have had this Monitor for about 6-8 months I noticed the top of the screen started to come apart and I could see the light of the screen coming from where the bezel should be. I have gently pushed it back but non the less the glue won't stick and the screen just starts to separate at the top. ... MoreIt has been a little over a year since I purchased, and out of warranty and out of support. By the time I have finally had time to sit down and look at the issue, of course I am 3 months out of warranty and Samsung can care less that you just paid $600 for a monitor a year ago, and they want almost a quarter of that $215+ for a repair, that is clearly a defect. This monitor has not moved since it was installed and the room has A/C since there is a powerful hot gaming PC in the room as well. Note to self: Steer clear of the screens with "borderless" bezels since the glue will not hold up and probably just avoid Samsung monitors for gaming all together since it won't even hold up for a full year.

Great monitor with DP
2 May 2022

As much as I intended for this to be my gaming monitor, I wound up using my TV for gaming instead (since it was 55 inch, 4K 120hz), and this became my work from home monitor. The huge screen size and 1440p resolution mean I can snap two windows left and right and multitask easily. The curve also feels natural. The stand is very wobbly and would benefit from a wall mount perhaps. Could also be my desk as well, my new desk is more wobbly than my old. Even typing this review right now the monitor wobbles some, but I've gotten used to it. Most of the upper tier features of this monitor require displayport instead of HDMI, so for the highest refresh rate and VRR and such. I have it hooked up to my laptop through a DP-to-USB-C cord (v1.5 of DP) and it supports all settings this way; connecting to laptop via HDMI did not. Also, when I put the laptop to sleep, the monitor will shut off, but when I wake the laptop every morning, I have to manually turn the monitor back on, it won't automatically turn back on when the laptop wakes up. Samsung seems to be one of the few brands that doesn't do this and I don't know why they don't consider this to be a default function that every monitor across all price ranges should have. For Samsung, monitors often have to be physically unplugged and plugged back in to auto turn on or switch source input. Strange. It is this lack of automatically turning on which loses it one star for me. Otherwise, it's a great monitor.

Great monitor with one fatal flaw!
12 December 2022

Almost perfect in every way except for one MAJOR flaw: It STILL suffers from the "screen door" effect when using the 240Hz mode. I thought maybe seven or so months after release Samsung would have solved this problem, so I ordered one during Samsung's Black Friday sale. It was delivered and hooked up to my PC immediately using the display port cable they ship with the monitor. By default it's set to 120Hz mode and you need to go into the monitor menu and change it to 240Hz mode. As soon as I did this I immediately noticed a difference in the monitor's display. It's like looking at the monitor screen through a screen door, with finely thin noticeable lines all throughout the screen. If you disable 240Hz mode and re-enable 120Hz mode the screen door issue disappears. ... MoreAlmost perfect in every way except for one MAJOR flaw: It STILL suffers from the "screen door" effect when using the 240Hz mode. It's like looking at the monitor screen through a screen door, with finely thin noticeable lines all throughout the screen. If you disable 240Hz mode and re-enable 120Hz mode the screen door issue disappears. I should note that my experience with Samsung chat support is very subpar as well. When explaining the issue to them they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about, as if this issue isn't already well known for this monitor. Needless to say this lead to wasting a great deal of time performing useless actions like, "connect the monitor to another device to see if the issue still persists", or "try factory resetting the monitor". Long story short, eventually it led to them saying they would escalate the issue and someone would call me. Well no one ever called me, but I did receive an e-mail saying I should create a repair ticket. I attempted to do so, but the automated system wanted to charge me $230 to send this off for repair. So that lead to another chat support session which eventually lead to chat support creating the repair ticket themselves. They provided a QR code and told me to take the monitor to UPS and have them package it for shipping for repair. So now I'm waiting for a monitor that I just purchased to get repaired and be sent back to me. By the way they don't provide an ETA for repair time and shipping the monitor back. I would like to say it is not all doom in gloom in regard to the monitor though. When I used it in 120Hz mode it was fantastic! The amazingly bright HDR2000 display gets so bright sometimes that I have to squint to not go blind! On the flip side, the black levels are on par with any OLED display I have ever seen, and I am not exaggerating that statement at all! The curved panel took a bit to get used to, but once that happened I actually miss it now that it's gone out for repair. Sitting at just the right distance with the curved panel almost gives it a surround vision vibe. All in all I really do love this monitor and I can't wait to get it back repaired and ready to go!

PBP is very nice for being able to play a console and monitor a stream, or watch videos or walkthroughs, etc. No compromises experience. High refresh rate, high resolution, and a very bright and beautiful visual range that helps you fully experience a detailed scene without getting washed out or blurry picture quality. G-sync/Free-sync support even adds more to that no compromises experience as it lets you reduce screen tearing without adding latency. The monitor itself has a very good build quality as well. The design isn't distracting and has accents that don't feel out of place in most setups. The back light is customizable and looks very cool. The I/O is also very functional. I find it supports just about any device I'd use with little to no difficulty. The only thing that it leaves to be desired is more local dimming zones to make the HDR a bit more involved which is solved by the succeeding model the Neo G9. Any other deficiencies are due to other technology being behind (HDCP and HDR in particular.)

Too expensive for faulty monitor.

TDLR: Absolutely not worth the price, $350 flat fee to repair it even when they don't know what is wrong with it and it has multiple point of failures. The display ports on the monitor just completely stopped working and so did the hdmi port, eventually I got the hdmi port back (I let it sit on my mount for almost another year before touching it again.) After trying troubleshooting it on my own, with a Samsung expert and using YouTube and threads nothing would fix my issue I was having with the menu fob button and the display port not displaying anything or working. After talking to an expert I got called and told it would cost $350 flat fee to pay for the repair, I asked if they knew what was wrong with it and they said no they have to check. So you are charging me right off the bat $350 for a repair that could be simple to fix. My brother has an Asus monitor for around the same price range that has superior colors and has lived longer then my own monitor. Paying so much for a monitor with multiple point of failures is ignorance and I fell for it. Please do your research on this monitor, it is not worth the headache or hassle you will go through, menu button unreliable trash, flickering, black screens and ports not working properly. I'll try to post a picture, but it didn't let me last time.

The picture you see of my product is hdmi cable after struggling forever to get it to post. Menu button still doesn't work properly. Tdlr:Price of monitor is not worth the faulty equipment of this monitor series. $300 repair fee or higher if something goes wrong. Please do your research of the major problems of this monitor. If you value your money look for something else in this price range. This monitor was great when it worked, I had it for a year and immediately the monitor just had a mind of its own. Fob on the monitor wouldn't open menu or would be extremely delay to open it. My monitor would randomly cut in and out and eventually just out of the blue diaplayports just stopped work. Even attempting to use the HDMI was terrible because it would never pick it up ... MoreThe picture you see of my product is hdmi cable after struggling forever to get it to post. My monitor would randomly cut in and out and eventually just out of the blue diaplayports just stopped work. Even attempting to use the HDMI was terrible because it would never pick it up after turning on my pc, after time and time again attempting to troubleshoot the problem I gave up. It has been sitting for like a whole year gathering dust. When I did get help from a samsung expert everything they asked me to do failed. During this time frame my warranty just had expired (1 month from the date of expiration.) Samsung called me and said they could fix it for $300 to $350, I asked the rep what was wrong with it and they told me, we do not know we would have to check. So you are telling me I paid $700 for this monitor and you want me to send you it and pay you $300 for you to fix something that you don't know? So you are telling me if it is a simple fix I'll still get charged $300? Not worth the money at all, my brother has a Asus monitor in the same price range, actually less that has godly performance and quality. PLEASE BE ADVISE OF THIS WARNING, do your research, look it up, this monitor has MULTIPLE problems. It is absolutely not worth the price especially when they are ready to charge you $300 for a fix.

Ultra-wide is the new norm!

From the top, I received my Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 directly from SAMSUNG with no issues, dings, dead pixels or any damage upon delivery. Only had to maintain firmware updates. I use my Odyssey Neo G9 for work and gaming. Notice of an obvious increase in productivity due to it being much easier to stay focused on projects by seeing everything consistently at the same time instead of flipping back in forth through multiple windows. Which is fantastic, but gaming is where things get interesting. PC on DisplayPort, PS5/HDMI 1, XBOX SERIES X/HDMI 2. Obviously having a decent rig is gonna be the main factor. If you have the most recent firmware update to this review, you should be or could be enjoying one of the best gaming monitors ever made. If you have the most recent firmware update to this review, you should be or could be enjoying one of the best gaming monitors ever made. All features are working; up to 240hz, HDR10, HDR10+, Free-sync, G-sync. My favorite game right now is Cyberpunk 2077 on PC. They have fixed a ton of bugs and stability issues and the game is amazing with ULTRA-WIDE 5120x1440 support!! Games that support resolution 5120x1440 and 32:9 aspect ratio are a MUST play on the Neo G9. Complete Immersion, you will lose yourself in this ULTRA-WIDE display. PIB is a very convenient mode when playing competition sports games with friends, sometimes getting the full team together with strategy may take some time. PIB I split my ULTRA-WIDE into 2 full 27” screens, sports gaming on HDMI 1, NBA Playoffs streaming on HDMI 2 or single player RPG I can pause when the team is ready. PRICELESS
