This is a present for my husband’s birthday. He does love it so much. He said it is impressive for its size and performance. It is great for immersive gaming. It has a fast refresh rate and low response time, which means smoother gameplay and less motion blur. The picture quality is excellent with vibrant colors and deep blacks. He can connect it to different devices using its two DisplayPort ports, one HDMI port, and two USB ports. The screen can get very bright, up to 1000 nits, he can see details clearly.

This monitor completely changed my gaming experience for the better. I was very intimidated by the large curve and the screen size at first but after playing many games on it (everything from Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3 to Sea of Thieves) it has been mind-blowing to see just how easy it has been to adjust to it. It works really well with my G-Sync and the preset color modes have some great options. Customizing the colors is very easy thanks to the built in options. Updating is simple, just use a small flash drive and upload drivers you can get from Samsung's website. I adore gaming. It's my favorite hobby. Screens like this allow for so much more immersion and fun. I need the fast refresh rate to accommodate high FPS games and this monitor does not disappoint.

Everything advertised, which is a lot is there. The 1000R curve is supposed to be a a good number matching the human eye but probably if sitting very close to the screen? At a distance, the curve is noticeable. You don't want to sit too close to this monitor because it will cook your eyeballs slowly, warm can be felt already at 50cm, if for whatever reason you need to set brightness over 50, prepare for it. (personally running it at 30 after color calibration)No issue for the brain to see a straight line as a straight line as long as it is in eye level. On my setup, monitor (firmware 1008.1) keeps going in and out of HDR mode for no reason (it could be monitor, GPU, Windows, calibration profile...)If you run an application with a large black area (RGB 0,0,0) ... MoreEverything advertised, which is a lot is there. The 1000R curve is supposed to be a a good number matching the human eye but probably if sitting very close to the screen? Due to the size of the monitor, the USB ports are a nightmare to access. The hanger for the headphone, nice gimmick but unless you have been blessed with insanely large arms, useless.

It's an amazing experience but it has it's flaws or quirks as i like to say them, i got used to them.Firmware and Features:The firmware is not the most amazing thing out there and needs improvement especially to saving settings(color settings in particular as they tend to reset and not save on custom)unless you fiddle with a bunch of other settings and by some fluke it saves it.As for the local dimming well nothing great there but i already knew that, it's not FALD that would be another half a grand, and that's alright, anything supporting HDR natively outside Windows 10 HDR(as Windows 10 HDR is horrible) is great and looks amazing.Hardware:This monitor takes a lot of space and is heavy which is a good sign they didn't cheap out on the monitor stand ... MoreIt's an amazing experience but it has it's flaws or quirks as i like to say them, i got used to them.Firmware and Features:The firmware is not the most amazing thing out there and needs improvement especially to saving settings(color settings in particular as they tend to reset and not save on custom)unless you fiddle with a bunch of other settings and by some fluke it saves it.As for the local dimming well nothing great there but i already knew that, it's not FALD that would be another half a grand, and that's alright, anything supporting HDR natively outside Windows 10 HDR(as Windows 10 HDR is horrible) is great and looks amazing.Hardware:This monitor takes a lot of space and is heavy which is a good sign they didn't cheap out on the monitor stand materials so it's pretty solid, if you have not used anything of this size your desk will need to be on par with it, power cord is a little on the short length side you may need an extension cord, those are quirks you can get used to them you can adapt to them the monitor gives you exactly your bang for your buck and more. Some of the Good things:Variable refresh rate works good, gsync/freesync, at 60hz you can utilize 10bit color on 120/240 you will need to drop down to 8bit, for you designer/coders/programmers/graph viewers and otherwise people that need a lot of real estate on your screen you will be satisfied with this.Color accuracy is excellent it requires quite a bit of setting it up especially considering it's up to each individual's liking on how to set it up but even for a design professional who may need to set it up for each project he needs to work with it's greatCan connect more than one source and display it as stated in the specifications and works fairly well if you have need for such a thing(Looking at you content creators)and much moreWish it came in black, i wonder if i can vinyl it; add more custom color profiles please and fix the save functionality, can i get a remote control for the settings? am getting shoulder stiffness having to stretch my arm to set it up all the time.TL;DR Firmware could use further optimization, some settings wont save(color),Native HDR is great(Windows 10 HDR is horrible), Local dimming is nothing special(its not FALD you should know and be expecting nothing much out of Local dimming), Monitor takes a lot of space and is heavy your desk should be on par with it, cords can be a little short(power cord), Great real estate for professionals, gsync/freesync, variable refresh rate, a beast with a personality

Monitor Arm Compatibility Update
30 October 2020

Further to my original review, where I found that the Ergotron monitor arm specified up to 19kg couldn't support this monitor, I'd like to add that Ergotron responded to my complaints about the tilt head, and have engineered a new tilt head (with a strong spring) that is compatible with the G9. They sent me a replacement tilt-head, and I now have a fully functional monitor arm with the G9, and the experience is highly satisfactory. If you're looking at getting an arm for this, the Ergotron is one of the few options available. Just make sure that you get the new tilt-head designed for heavier monitors, rather than the standard one. Just make sure that you get the new tilt-head designed for heavier monitors, rather than the standard one. It is probably difficult to obtain right now, but should improve.Having experienced using the G9 for longer now, Samsung have released two firmware updates, and PIP features work a bit better now. I've grown to love this monitor, as it looks great, and the curve is just about perfect. However, I still miss the removal of the three programmable configuration buttons from its older, less-curved 120Hz predecessor. The 240Hz refresh-rate feels incredible in games that can support it.It's a great monitor to buy and own *now*, but monitors are always improving, so if you can live without a 49" monitor with 5120x1440 resolution, then it probably makes sense to wait to see what future releases might deliver. There are still almost no games that properly support this resolution or the 32:9 aspect ratio.I have doubts that with modern games, even an RTX3080 will be able to support a solid 60Hz at the full-resolution, and 240Hz is going to be way out of reach. Fortunately, there is a well designed feature that allows you to specify a sub-region of the display to use. Alas, this feature doesn't work with G-sync variable rate, but as you usually use it to target a high, fixed, refresh rate (such as 240) it's not that big a problem. I can't say for sure because I'm still waiting for my 3080... but the frame rates with my existing 1080Ti are unplayable at full native resolution, and so I either use a sub-region of the display, or a lower resolution and up-scale. If you plan to wait for a card that can deliver a full 240Hz at native resolution, I think the monitor will be due for retirement before that happens, because every year games always load on more effects. Some old games may reach good frame-rates, even at full resolution, but the down side is that those games typically do not support the ratio well. Skyrim, for example, requires a hard-to-find mod to get a good result.

Multiscreen workhorse

I got this monitor on a recommendation from a friend who has the OLED version of this. I opted for this model due to the 2 display ports and HDMI port because of my setup with 1 Macbook, 1 Mac Mini and 1 PC.Other than needing to upgrade my DP/USBC cables from the ones ordered here, it has worked wonderfully. During the week, I have a split screen going with work and home and on the weekend, I'll run full screen with my PC for some gaming. The 120/240hz refresh allows for some great FPS and it is more than enough real estate for the split screen when working. Super bright and super crisp screen, I love it.

Nice wide Monitor / No Issues
7 January 2024

I like the aesthetics of the monitor. Looks pleasing to my wife. I like how it switches between 240hz and normal 60hz depending upon the PC connected to it. It would be nice if the PBP would support 240hz. Speakers are not worth utilizing. It would be nice if there were more than 2 USB ports. The picture is nice and colors are good. I would prefer the aspect rates was different, 32:9 is just too wide vs height. I like the 1000R curvature.

Rather than wasting time on gimmicks like backlighting that's so low it's virtually invisible, perhaps Samsung should've concentrated on QC.HDR function - complete junk, everything looks better without, but with Dynamic Brightness turned on. The Dynamic Brightness function (which can only be used without HDR), makes everything pop, and acts in a similar way, but with content that's not HDR, so perhaps that's the redemption? It's also possible that my video card can't handle full HDR glory (with max colour depth etc) at the resolution I've been testing at. HDR function seems to wash and dim everything out, light bleed is roughly equivalent to Dynamic Brightness function. No light bleed when not using these functions.Strange loud clicking/snapping sounds emanate ... MoreRather than wasting time on gimmicks like backlighting that's so low it's virtually invisible, perhaps Samsung should've concentrated on QC.HDR function - complete junk, everything looks better without, but with Dynamic Brightness turned on. HDR function seems to wash and dim everything out, light bleed is roughly equivalent to Dynamic Brightness function. No light bleed when not using these functions.Strange loud clicking/snapping sounds emanate from 2 different places. It happens more frequently in the first hour or so of turning on (perhaps warming up?), but does still continue less frequently after long term use. It's quite distracting, and certainly doesn't help when working with audio for a living. I can only hope it doesn't pose a hazard. There is a very slight colour change between sections of the monitor. The middle is one colour/shade [neutral colour], then to each side of that it changes (very slightly, almost imperceptible) [off colour], then to neutral again in the next sections, then back to off colour on the edges. I haven't looked closely at this, it's possible it only occurs with the dynamic brightness function turned on too. It's not enough for me to worry about, but thought it should be mentioned. Probably not a great choice for someone who does a lot of visual media work. For the kind of money spent on just a computer monitor I expect better.
