I never cheap out when buying new SSDs for my workstations. Samsung EVO drives come with a 5-year warranty, and are generally considered to be top-of-the-line in their class. I bought 2 of these from B&H for a RAID1 array in a new HP workstation. After about 5 hours total use, the array reported one failed drive! I did my usual due diligence, checked and rechecked the connectors, etc. Still bad.OK, so I went to Samsung's website to fill out the warranty info and found a number of roadblocks. First, their system would not accept the serial number of the failed drive as valid - not enough digits! I contacted Samsung directly and responded to their email with the purchase info, a scan of the B&H invoice, a photo of the drive, etc.For some reason, this sent me into ... MoreI never cheap out when buying new SSDs for my workstations. As usual - kudos to B&H for stepping up for their customers! It's no wonder I don't ever consider buying from anyone else!!!Heads up: maybe Samsung is having some quality control issues...

I had this drive for about six months using it as a storage drive. A few weeks ago, this drive started throwing I/O errors and started accumulating thousands of bad sectors. After some research, I found other users online that have 2TB and 4TB 870 EVO drives experienced the same issues with this drive as well. Apparently, many 870 EVO drives manufactured in 2021 were defective and lead to early failures. If you want to purchase this drive, I recommend checking the manufacture date prior to purchasing it. If it was made in 2021, it might be best to avoid this drive altogether. You can RMA the drive if it starts to fail, but I have not been able to get any help or response from Samsung Memory Support for the RMA requests I submitted. Wanted to get a new, larger SSD for my laptop to replace a 10yo Samsung PM830 which has been an amazing drive with 9yrs of on time & still has 80% health. However, Samsung wasn't my first choice for replacement.I was looking for something cheaper but as I learned more & more, I realized you need to buy a reputable name brand drive. Quality & performance is very sporadic if you don't.The price scared me away from Samsung to start. Again, the more I learned, I found you can get an EVO 870 1TB for about the same price as a budget brand, such as Adata. Only an extra $20 at this date, but you get so much more for that extra. The magician software is great. I'm absolutely amazed at my read/write speeds via SATAIII with the performance caching enabled. Only an extra $20 at this date, but you get so much more for that extra. The magician software is great. I'm absolutely amazed at my read/write speeds via SATAIII with the performance caching enabled. Wasn't even aware I could achieve those speeds, refer to the included JPG. Without performance cache enable, I'm right at the advertised read/write speeds of 550/500. The only thing that sucks is never having access to the full capacity rating, but that's a norm, then it you use over provisioning you lose even more. Other than that, this is the best SATA drive on the market. I even bought a second one as a backup. The only downside is that I came across tech forums discussing possible issues with these drives. Those issues regard early drive failure, where relatively new drives begin to show uncorrectable errors, ECC error rate, CRC error rate, reallocated sector count start to rise via CrystalDiskInfo. Then it just keeps getting worse & worse. The Samsung software also verifies this. However, it seems Samsung is willing to stand by their warranty & RMA the drives. I haven't experienced any of those issues so far but will be keeping an eye on those statistics with CrystalDisk in case it does start to happen. This is definitely an issue that shouldn't be happening with a name & price like Samsung, so hopefully they take care of the issue.
Hey there, fellow gamers and tech enthusiasts! Today, I wanted to chat about solid state hard drives (SSDs) and how they have revolutionized the gaming and computing world.Gone are the days of slow and clunky hard drives that took ages to load your favorite games and programs. SSDs are built to last and can withstand even the most demanding workloads and intense gaming sessions. And the best part? SSDs are super easy to install. Just plug it into your computer and you're good to go. Plus, many SSDs come with migration software to make transferring your files and operating system a breeze. But let's talk performance, shall we? SSDs have amazing read and write speeds that blow traditional hard drives out of the water. With an SSD, you can expect lightning-fast boot times, quick load times in games, and speedy file transfers. And for those of us who like to multitask while gaming, SSDs allow for smooth and seamless switching between applications without any lag or delay. In short, if you're a gamer or just someone who demands top-notch performance from their computer, an SSD is an absolute must-have. The difference in speed and reliability is truly astounding, and once you go SSD, you'll never want to go back to traditional hard drives. So there you have it, folks, my thoughts on solid state hard drives. Trust me, once you upgrade to an SSD, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. Happy gaming and computing!<3 Jade Ann Byrne @JadeAnnByrne
I was struggling with my 5 year old laptop at a point, I was not opening that at all. That was budget laptop having moderate specs (having standard old HDD only) that makes the machine feels like almost 7-8 years old. I almost forgot how frequently I open it (may be 3 times in a month!!). It was severe pain in the neck. Now, I found this from Best Buy at a deal price and installed it by myself. What a turn around this become. This beast ssd alone turns my machine alive. I practically opening it now almost each day to perform my regular task. From Booting up to screen ready (where I can open first app), it takes about 5 seconds which earlier was 10 mins. Opening multiple apps or browser tabs is also buttery smooth which was impossible earlier. Over the past year I've had a number of problems with several laptops I've had, these are Dell laptop computers, a number of Windows 11 and other software related issues mostly. But I had other problems that were hardware related. Noting that a SSD generally is more efficient and reliable than a typical SATA type internal drive, I elected to have the existing SATA drives removed and replaced with newer Samsung SSD drives, specifically 1 and 2 TB capacity drives.I just purchased my third Samsung SSD, this being a 2 TB capacity EVO 870. What I've noticed is a much faster boot time probably because there are no moving parts in a SSD type drive. What I've noticed is a much faster boot time probably because there are no moving parts in a SSD type drive. Generic SSDs typically have no moving parts and information is saved onto integrated circuits (ICs). Although SSDs serve the same functions as regular hard drives that frequently come with desktop and/or laptop computers, their internal parts are different. SSDs store data using flash memory, allowing them to access data much faster than hard drives, thus a better boot time as well as accessing software. I prefer Samsung. The EVO 870 I purchased from Best Buy through the Geek Squad has a 560 MB & 530 MB read- Write speed, respectively, so PDQ speed for me. There is nothing wrong with WD (Western Digital) or other brands of hard drives, I've just always have excellent results with Samsung. According to Tech Radar, the 970 EVO series hold the top tiers for SSDs. I chose the 870 series because I have an older Dell Inspiron 3000 series 17 inch laptop and the 970 wouldn't work and its possible it would have required a heat sink. If you are considering a SSD for your desk top or laptop, go with the Samsung EVO series SSD. There is noting wrong with WD or Corsair or Kingston, I've just always had a preference with Samsung. If you are having various issues with your personal desktop or laptop, also consider getting the Best Buy Total Tech plan thru Geek Squad. It is well worth it. I'm somewhat computer savvy in some ways but not enough to figure out why something isn't working right or trying to replace something myself. I've had the Total Tech plan at Best Buy now for two years and it's well worth the investment. As many times over the past two years I've had electronics issues involving my computer, if I had had to pay EACH time I brought something in, with the money I would have had to fork out EACH time I did bring something in, I could have paid for the U.S. national debt. Best Buy has not paid me to say that, I'm just speaking from my past experience and the Geek Squad people at the Best Buy I frequent are top notch, reliable and expedient and explain things well and offer good advice without talking you into buying something you don't really need; they give you all the best options.
I have purchased several of these Samsung 870EVO drives recently for PC client notebook upgrades. The price was a little higher than what I would usually install but the Samsung name and reliability helps to sell the higher price. Installation is easy and Windows 7/10 recognizes the drives without a problem. The Samsung website has updated drivers while the Samsung Magician software monitors the TRIM on these SSD's to keep them in reasonable shape (If the client wants the software installed). I have not experienced infant mortality for any of the Samsung SSD's I have purchased and no complaints either which is a plus for me. I have not experienced infant mortality for any of the Samsung SSD's I have purchased and no complaints either which is a plus for me. The drives seem to run cool enough in the notebook PC's even with High CPU usage and heavy read/write activity. Older PC's and ones with poor cooling have been an issue in the past, even with SSD's. My only real concern is the VNAND technology combined with the warranty, stated MTBF, and TWB from Samsung for these VNAND SSD's. In high read/write applications (large video file transfers and Video Processing), the lifespan of these VNAND SSD's is sub-optimal. This is especially true when using this drive as a primary OS drive in combination with it being used as a storage drive. The relatively large size of the drive is supposed to mitigate the cells wearing out. I do not necessarily believe that for high write/read cycle applications with very large files but, time will tell. For most applications, these SSD's will work fine (IMO). I still prefer TLC technology for SSD's that have high read/write requirements to give better longevity. The slower speed and higher price for large capacity makes them less desireable for most PC applications (gaming?) so I can recommend these Samsung 870EVO SSD's for them.

No more slow and noisy! Much faster than the original hard drive. Plus no more noise! That got old, especially when using my computer at night time when everything else is quiet. Also the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are both over $300 Million right now, so I plan on buying a few tickets for each one. You never know, I might get lucky again!
