Best USB For Recording TV Shows

I have been using the little $40 Digital Converter boxes to record antenna TV for many years now, constantly searching for a USB drive that would record properly. The best I ever found (until now) was the SanDisk - Extreme Pro, which is the fastest writing drive I've ever had. It was by far the best for recording but still had glitches. This Samsung Fit Plus records PERFECTLY! Will be buying another for the bedroom.

Blazing fast speeds

Besides the obvious facts about how fast this flash drive is, which I'm sure other reviews will talk about, I wanted to take a moment and mention some of the other aspects. This flash drive looks and feels extremely durable. Some drives just feel flimsy but this one, after handling it for just a moment, makes you realize "okay, my data is actually safe from the everyday wear and tear that everything is inevitably going to go through". The drive has a very professional aesthetic to it, and is still able to pull off looking stylish. It even has a slot for a keychain ring. It fits nicely into any device without fear of it being weighted down. On the far edge of the drive, it displays "Samsung" with that same professional style to it. Everything the SanDisk Fit is, and everything it isn't too!

PROS: First up, it's fast. Despite the package touting "only" 130MB/s, it reads at 150MB/s which is just as fast as the SanDisk Ultra Fit. The writes are considerably better than the SanDisk: 112 to 120MB/s rather than 96-100. The 4k reads and writes are a mixed bag depending on which benchmark I run: Crystal DiskMark is not terribly impressed (5 read, 1.7 write), but both ATTO and FlashBench get much better numbers (like 24 read and 17 write, which is small SSD-like performance). But here's where I was most impressed: while the overheating problem these tiny drives have is not completely solved, Samsung makes sure it doesn't actually BREAK anything. Instead, transfer speeds will merely drop to almost nothing (like 0.3MB/s) for one to two seconds while it catches ... MorePROS: First up, it's fast. Instead, transfer speeds will merely drop to almost nothing (like 0.3MB/s) for one to two seconds while it catches its breath. It doesn't disconnect, and your transfers don't fail. NOTE: The write speeds are highly dependent on the current your USB3 ports are prepared to provide. If they "only" deliver the rated 0.9A, expect write speeds more like 45MB/s. If they'll throw whatever the drive asks for, that's when you'll see the >100MB/s speeds. Reads, however, are not dependent on current. CONS: It's more expensive than the SanDisk Ultra Fit. Now I see why. The plastic part is white, most machines aren't. I wouldn't paint it (for heat reasons) but vinyl dye would probably work well if you care that much. The speed when used on a USB2 port is fairly disappointing, probably because it expects to have more power available than USB2 provides. Performance in this case is mediocre -- like 32MB/s reads and 19MB/s writes (5.4MB/s at 4k for both). If you expect to use it primarily on systems that lack USB3, there are better options, though if that is just an occasional need then you should be OK. SUMMARY: For those looking into a Fit style drive that barely peeks out of the USB port, THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT. It is every bit as good as the SanDisk Ultra Fit (possibly better) even where the SanDisk is at its best, and it is immensely better (because it actually WORKS) at the things that make the SanDisk Ultra Fit fall over and choke.

Fits too tight, hard to remove, and too bulky
5 November 2021

this drive fits way to tight, requiring me to brace my laptop while inserting and removing it. it almost feels as if it's expanding the usb port from all the pressure the drive exerts on it, something that doesn't at all settle well with me when using on expensive laptops. it'd be a real shame to have a port fail because of the bulkiness of this drive.i have a couple older verbatim drives that are ever so slightly tight while inserting, and then click into place just right. they also have a minimal housing enclosure which can make them a bit tricky to get out. however, the housing has beveled grooves that run around the outer edge that can be easily gripped with a fingernail. also, their low profile allows a laptop to be stored into a sleeve without ... Morethis drive fits way to tight, requiring me to brace my laptop while inserting and removing it. it almost feels as if it's expanding the usb port from all the pressure the drive exerts on it, something that doesn't at all settle well with me when using on expensive laptops. it'd be a real shame to have a port fail because of the bulkiness of this drive.i have a couple older verbatim drives that are ever so slightly tight while inserting, and then click into place just right. they also have a minimal housing enclosure which can make them a bit tricky to get out. however, the housing has beveled grooves that run around the outer edge that can be easily gripped with a fingernail. also, their low profile allows a laptop to be stored into a sleeve without removal.thank you and good day.

Functions as advertised. All that I needed.
29 January 2022

The product does what I need it to do. It's durable, fast, and reliable. I'm not one that's too picky about looks, and I was generally more concerned about a functional and durable product, which it is. Though, there are a few issues that I have witnessed; the design of the thumb drive has a minor flaw, in that the USB port scratches the metal finish on the end of the drive after only a few times. The write speeds are also not consistent, with performance clocking an average ~150 MBps writing speeds, however reading speeds do perform roughly as fast as advertised, at about ~250 MBps.

Love me some Samsung Flash Drives
24 July 2022

i don't know what to say but the drive works well and seem to be built better than all the others out there. i've not tested the speeds because it is just for files, and files transfer very fast on most modern drives. i have two that i trust with all my personal files which are accessed and modified every day for years now. great for laptops to avoid damage when moving around with the laptop. just the best drive on the market as far as i'm concerned.

This is it an amazing little desk, tiny, small enough to leave in your Mac USB port if you want. It is fast, its reliable, the best Ive come across! Just remember how important it is to use disk utility and reformat any extern all disc you will be using with Mac, including this one. Mac may be able to read this format, but is not able to write to it.

There are a gazillion flash drive options available today. I needed a large flashdrive to transfer all my files over to a new Windows 10 laptop from a Windows 7 Desktop. A tech expert friend of mine said to just do it using a flashdrive vs using the Cloud. However, he warned me that things have changed with flashdrive reliability - he said that when he needs FDs, he usually buys them by the dozens because at least half of them fail. This Samsung had excellent reviews - I felt I could trust it. I thought about buying the 256GB model but one user said that its read/write speed was very slow. I knew that this 128GB would be plenty big. I used it and it WAS FAST. Had absolutely NO PROBLEMS. I am extremely happy with it! i kept this drive in the usb port of my computer for about two months. the drive was left in the usb port as suggested in the boilerplate. media was bitlocker encrypted. after tow months of occasional use (maybe once a week), the drive reports "no media". all attempts to access the drive have failed - on several different pc's. it looks like the controller chip cannot talk to the nand memory chip. as a result, i have a working usb flash drive with no storage memory. for all of this drives supposed physical durability, it sure failed quickly and quietly. waterproof? x-ray proof? how about able to withstand normal use. good thing it's waterproof, because it's going in the toilet! do not trust your data to this device!
