Samsung Fit Plus 128GB - 400 MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive (MUF-128AB/AM)

I have been using the little $40 Digital Converter boxes to record antenna TV for many years now, constantly searching for a USB drive that would record properly. The best I ever found (until now) was the SanDisk - Extreme Pro, which is the fastest writing drive I've ever had. It was by far the best for recording but still had glitches. This Samsung Fit Plus records PERFECTLY! Will be buying another for the bedroom.

Besides the obvious facts about how fast this flash drive is, which I'm sure other reviews will talk about, I wanted to take a moment and mention some of the other aspects. This flash drive looks and feels extremely durable. Some drives just feel flimsy but this one, after handling it for just a moment, makes you realize "okay, my data is actually safe from the everyday wear and tear that everything is inevitably going to go through". The drive has a very professional aesthetic to it, and is still able to pull off looking stylish. It even has a slot for a keychain ring. It fits nicely into any device without fear of it being weighted down. On the far edge of the drive, it displays "Samsung" with that same professional style to it. PROS: First up, it's fast. Despite the package touting "only" 130MB/s, it reads at 150MB/s which is just as fast as the SanDisk Ultra Fit. The writes are considerably better than the SanDisk: 112 to 120MB/s rather than 96-100. The 4k reads and writes are a mixed bag depending on which benchmark I run: Crystal DiskMark is not terribly impressed (5 read, 1.7 write), but both ATTO and FlashBench get much better numbers (like 24 read and 17 write, which is small SSD-like performance). But here's where I was most impressed: while the overheating problem these tiny drives have is not completely solved, Samsung makes sure it doesn't actually BREAK anything. Instead, transfer speeds will merely drop to almost nothing (like 0.3MB/s) for one to two seconds while it catches ... MorePROS: First up, it's fast. NOTE: The write speeds are highly dependent on the current your USB3 ports are prepared to provide. If they "only" deliver the rated 0.9A, expect write speeds more like 45MB/s. If they'll throw whatever the drive asks for, that's when you'll see the >100MB/s speeds. Reads, however, are not dependent on current. CONS: It's more expensive than the SanDisk Ultra Fit. Now I see why. The plastic part is white, most machines aren't. I wouldn't paint it (for heat reasons) but vinyl dye would probably work well if you care that much. The speed when used on a USB2 port is fairly disappointing, probably because it expects to have more power available than USB2 provides. Performance in this case is mediocre -- like 32MB/s reads and 19MB/s writes (5.4MB/s at 4k for both). If you expect to use it primarily on systems that lack USB3, there are better options, though if that is just an occasional need then you should be OK. SUMMARY: For those looking into a Fit style drive that barely peeks out of the USB port, THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT. It is every bit as good as the SanDisk Ultra Fit (possibly better) even where the SanDisk is at its best, and it is immensely better (because it actually WORKS) at the things that make the SanDisk Ultra Fit fall over and choke.
