I bought this A53 in early April, and already it has come out with several software updates. They have already come out with an updated TalkBack version on the heels of Google's latest iteration, and now, I find no difference in performance, although Google's version 12.2 has a couple extra features, such as an image recognition feature and eliminating volume buttons slider control, substituting with an up or down scroll finger swipe.As of a couple days ago, the Samsung TTS version is on a parr with the flagships, a request I first put in when I got my A53. I learned that these updates come sllightly later to mid-range phones, such as the A53.The only other change I would make to the phone is to increase the haptic intensity, but certainly not a deal breaker, just a preference. To a sighted person, tactile haptic feedback is like visual screen intensity.The phone functions quickly and efficiently, and is a great work horse. I like a phone to do what I want it to do, when I want it to. I have over 100 apps on my phone and operate out of the apps tray, as I have it organized alphabetically, and don't allow app additions to my home screen. I use the home screen as a landing page for my time and weather widget, and let the phone do the organizing for me which has saved me countless hours deciding about and organizing home screens.In summary, unless you have to have a flagship, or prefer the bigger screen, you will be pleasantly surprised with the A53 and glad of the purchase. Should Samsung take away any more features, other than the SD card slot from their mid-ranger or budget phones, Samsung and I will part company after eight years.But for now, I am a "happy camper."

I switch from a LG G7 maybe 3 month ago and I'm not totally satisfied.Good point : - The battery is good and I was suprised. A good upgrade from my previous phone.-The size is overall good. You could say I'm not used to it yet, but after three month of use, I think I should be used to it by now.-The major downgrade I had was from the speed and performance while "gaming". I used to play the mobile games "Injustice : God's among us" and "Bloon TD 5" on my LG G7 and I had no problem, but with this brand new phone, it kept lagging, freezing and crashing. I know it's not the best phone if you intend to play, but from the specs, it was supposed to be better than my LG G7 and apparently, it is not...Sometimes, I have problems during some phonecalls where the other person can't hear me, but I can't say if it's a microphone problem since it's almost always with the same 2/3 persons, I have no problem with other people...I haven't really test the water and dust proof. I can't say if it's a good long term cellphone either at the moment.In conclusion, I believe it is far from being the best/my favorite cellphone. I was really shock by the lack of "power" of this cellphone, especially since it's brand new, I had a Galaxy S3 a while ago and at the end of its "life" (3-4 years), it seems like it lost a little bit of power/became slower, which I belive is normal, almost all my phone had something like this, but this one is brand new and can't outperform my 5 years old phone? Other than this, the cellphone is ok, my other "bad points" aren't major issues. For the price I paid (300$ canadian, almost 55% discount while I bought it), I believe that it's pretty good, but I think that the brand new price (650$ I belive) might be a bit too expensive for what it's really worth.

The best aspects of this phone are 1) the shockingly gorgeous AMOLED screen; 2) the fact that it picks up weak signals, 3) its amazing Dolby stereo sound that doesn't become distorted even when cranked all the way up, 4) its 120 Hz display, 5) its customizability, and 5) that you can set it to only charge the battery to 85% in order to preserve battery life. 128 GB of internal storage is plenty. The in-screen fingerprint reader can be a little slow. The quality of the cameras photos is generally very good. The sound quality is so good that I can even listen to music in my car on the phone speakers instead of playing the music through my car's speakers through Bluetooth. The battery life is great. One small nitpick is that with the included Samsung One UI, when you go to the app switcher, it will focus on the previous app instead of the current app. However, you can easily correct this behavior by downloading the free Good Lock app from the Samsung app store and using the included Home Up module. The other nitpick is that you sometimes need to tap the screen a couple of times in order to get it to respond, even when you use the setting to increase touchscreen sensitivity. However, Samsung seems to have fixed this with a software update, and this is no longer an issue. I recommend picking this phone up locked to the carrier you use anyway to shave a few dollars off the price. All in all, this is a wonderful and recommended phone, especially because of its gorgeous display.

With battery saver, the battery capped at 85% charge, and other optimizations made by the phone, I am getting a full day's use without a problem. It would probably go to 100% if I turned off the battery protect feature as the charging slows down as it hits the cap that is set (85% or 100%).In terms of performance, Samsung has made numerous updates to the phone and the performance has improved, it is best to give Samsung more time to improve the Exynos processors and software to make it great over-time.The camera is excellent, with the NPU (Neutral Processing Unit/AI-Machine Learning), it is able to capture photos with great quality, colour and edit them to make imperfections better.For the price, the A53 5G gives you the 5G features most people need, the camera, the performance, and the battery life for a price that is reasonable. You buy this phone because of the above features and the long-term support of 5 years of security updates and 4 years of major OS updates.
I bought this through "Freedom" and once out of the store after signing onto a plan I need out of I went into the subway, took out my headphones and went crazy examining it and realizing there was no standard port for them. Then I paid more for an adapter somewhere else, and that worked for a while. Then I couldn't even use those without audio issues, control issues and sometimes a shimmer like the phone had been electrocuted in a cartoon. Next I broke down and bought wireless earbuds and have burned out from trying to discover what app I have to download to allow the to work. I can play audio files or watch on-line contend but not with any earbuds. And even when earbuds worked for bit the start of any song would be clipped. Next I broke down and bought wireless earbuds and have burned out from trying to discover what app I have to download to allow the to work. I can play audio files or watch on-line contend but not with any earbuds. And even when earbuds worked for bit the start of any song would be clipped. The rest of the phone is much like my last one the Galaxy 7 which I only had to give up after some droppage caused a crack, some fluid inside blocking info at the top, and the (in)sensitivity of the touch screen caused me to not be able to answer a call. When I initially complained about no port on the A535G that the Freedom guy imposed on me, he said "older" phones from 3 years ago had that. I think it should have been disclosed. And they didn't have older models (there, anyway.) Now I have a crackling or silent connection or silence or wireless that will inevitably fall out. That is NOT progress. I shouldn't have to take a course in making by bluetooth find the right device or how to ensure it connects. Also, there seem to be too many apps that come with it, items that might be piggy backing as some sort of deal with Samsung, offering services I don't care about. And when I have tried to play audiotracks that I copied over from my old phone I am stopped by being asked to make a choice between too companies I NEVER needed to play files I downloaded. Even if I used a "convert youtube to mp3" tool, I should be able to play that mp3 forever even if the original poster on youtube has set the video to private or deleted on his end. It should still exist and be playable without connection to youtube and it should play as an mp3 without seeking permission. Without spotify or the youtube player, my last phone just played mp3 files on their own. I don't know what is up with that. Despite the waiver you end with forcing us to agree, if you are going to edit this review you asked for then don't bother publishing it because I don't need the fame. I also have no criteria for the star ratings provided so you can disregard those. They are as meaningless as some of the apps I have never heard of. Insist that any sales person DISCLOSE whether the cell relies on wireless or wonky adapters and whether there is a brand or website we HAVE TO download something from. I want to throw this phone at the wall or at the head of the sales guy. That said, at least people who greeted me a week later at a Samsung store were helpful enough to temporarily make some problems go away. But the issues that are persistent ruin any pride of ownership.

Although the 10x zoomed photos looked a bit pixelated due to no tele-zoom lens, nevertheless, the 0.5, 1-2x zoom photos are excellent!In general usage, there was some occasional system stopping lag that I was only able to resolve by rebooting the phone.This lag typically occurs when I'm playing audio on the Spotify app.The Galaxy A53 5G doesn't do too well with the Spotify app, nor does the Galaxy A03s, although I haven't had to reboot my A03s because of Spotify yet.Anyway, another problem which soon occurred only about a month of owning the phone,was a large dark image of a square at an angle of about 45 degrees, permanently imbedded in the bottom middle of the screen, it is especially visible in bright light or when outdoors.And this wasn't because of water damage, nor other kind of screen damage that I know of, I even had my phone in a screen protector and protective case for almost the entire duration of my ownership, I've placed this extra protection on my phone within the hour of unboxing the smartphone.You may see the dark diamond/square image burned into the A53 5G smartphone screen underneath my thumb in the photo attached in this review.Anywho, What I also soon noticed was a similar dark image, this time a dark circle near the camera portion of the screen.I excepted the fate of my phone's screen after a failed repair setup, I lost the page to print the shipping label to Samsung, because I was logged out and I couldn't return to it, I was also afraid of repair costs.Days later and after some more help and research, I reconsidered the repair option.The Samsung support helped me a lot to get a new repair service request, although the process took about 1-2 hours, about 40 minutes I spent on the phone, although the support was super helpful.I eventually got my phone in for shipment.The return was easy, in the UPS store, the code was scanned on my A03s, and my A53 5G was shipped in for repair.By the way, about the A03s, I had to buy a lower cost phone, the "A03s" in the meantime while my main phone the A53 was sent in for repair.I also had to buy data service for the A03s, and I was assigned a new number.It was easy to Backup my A53 5G's contacts and other app data via the Backup utility, I did this before Factory Resetting my phone for return.The one obstacle I did face though when trying to sign into my Samsung account with my A03s was the 2-step verification, I had to either receive a text from my A53 or authentication from my A53, oops. So then, I had to power back on my A53 and sign back into Samsung account to accept and confirm the verification code sent to the A53 via the A03s.After that, I was finally able to sign into my Samsung account on my A03s.Then I went ahead and Factory Rest my A53, again, for return and repair.Anyway, the phone took no time to arrive at Samsung, it was air-mail service, and they inspected it for a few days then shipped it back to me, the phone only took a day to arrive once they shipped it back.I received an email regarding that the phone was inspected and the issue detected was repaired.However, once I received the phone and powered it on, I my excitement turned to disappointment when I noticed that the screen problem was still there.I'm very disappointed that this problem occurred just weeks after the return period ended.I contacted Best Buy about it, their support was helpful and patient, they found out that there were some options, such as Repair, Replacement and Trade-in, although I would need to go in a store to do so.Overall, I'm quite sad about the situation, however, I sort of accept my fate.So, far I'm pleased with my lower-cost A03s, it works just as well as the A53 5G, although I miss the additional features, 5G, Network Unlocked Status, Fast Battery Charing, Long Battery Life and ram of the A53 5G.The A53 5G and A03s do look quite similar as well, you may see them pictured together on their back;A03s on the Left, A53 5G on the Right.In conclusion, my message to take home is that despite its unique features and impressive camera, battery and ram, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Smartphone is probably not ready for mainstream consumer usage due to the OS-Breaking Lag and inevitable permanent screen burnout.Thank you so much for all your time and review.
