Excellent phone with amazing picture resolution

I love this phone very much. The pen that pops out from the bottom has so many amazing features to use that are awesome. The 108mp camera ability is crazy awesome along with the 100× digital zoom capabilities. I love how many features the camera has so you are able to use the camera in so many unique ways. I do miss the magnified photo option that A71 phone had. That was really useful for me. Obviously I'm still figuring out how to use the many many different features this phone offers but so far I have found it to be an amazing phone. I do wish instead of having the 2 SIM card option they would have just allowed the use of an external memory card like most phones before it. I fill up my hard drive space quite far with all the photos and videos plus movies I keep on my phone. It will take me quite a long time to learn all the features of this phone if I ever can but so far I'm truly loving this S22 Ultra and I really love the color options. I got mine in green. Make sure to pick a good screen cover and phone case because you could easily damage the screen if dropped because of the slightly rounded edges. It's unlimited many phones before it but it's not completely new. Other Samsung phones have also had this design as well. Just make sure you research for a really to quality care and screen protector. I got the "Perfect Film Milomdoi Screen Protector" with 9H Tempered glass screen protector and it's amazing. I had to try a couple before I found this one because it was difficult for my fingerprint to be read when placing it in the screen and want as sensitive as it should have been so it caused a lot of issues. I finally found this screen protector and it's amazing plus it comes with 3 separate screen protectors and camera lens protectors. It's an elaborate setup they send you with in the packaging so be sure to read the instructions carefully before attempting to place the screen protector on your phone but if you do it correctly it is amazing and you will be very pleased with your purchase.

Most productive phone I've ever had

I've been using the S22 Ultra for a while now and currently with the new new One UI 5.0 and this phone is feature packed. I find the spen quite useful sometimes even though I don't usually use it, but it proves itself reliable when I need a camera controller to take group photos, or to take notes, translate words, copy texts from websites that may not support the traditional hold to copy. Another great thing about this phone is the telephoto camera. There are two types of telephoto cameras: one is the 3x zoom and the other is the 10x zoom. These 2 zooms use different cameras, but it can go all the way to 100x cropped zoom if needed. If you are coming from an iPhone 13 Pro Max there will be some things you may not like. While the majority of us knows that the new iPhones currently dominate the battery and how long phones last, I do have to say that this can last me a day just before I go to bed and enough time to charge it overnight. This may be disappointing for you, but it is one limitation of Android. On the other hand however, you get a ton more features like the spen, customizations, multiview and pop,up view, and better integration with the Galaxy ecosystem of course. With all that set aside I would say that overall this is a great phone. There are a lot of things that I never thought I would find VERY useful, but it always seem to surprise me.

I finally upgraded from my Note 10+ that I got at launch all the way back in 2019, and my experience with the ultra relative to it has been pretty positive. But while the S line has been on a bumpy road with features additions, removals, combinations, and design changes, the only thing radically different between 2019 Note and 2022 Ultra is the 44 extra pixels of height on the display. The battery, while I've heard it's lesser than the S21 Ultra, is still miles ahead of the 5-6 hours my Note was left with by the time I upgraded (I had never replaced the battery), I'll easily get 8 or 9 hours off a full charge and I'd consider myself a power user with many background apps as well as processing heavy daily tasks.S Pen thankfully has all of the features it did before, I'm one of the few who finds practical use for Air Command when watching YouTube propped on a table and don't need to reach my arm across to skip or change the volume, and especially when taking photos from distances or if I need to hold a specific angle and tapping the shutter button would ruin it (I can't be the only one with that problem right?).Speaking of photos, the cameras live up to the hype on this year's Ultra. I'd heard complaints and gripes since the S20 but when I finally jumped it seems Samsung has ironed out most of those. Point and shoot picture taking, without any fancy zooming or photo modes, is class leading, and while you lose zoom options in the true 108 MP mode having a photo with a ton of detail can be cool and enhance it in most situations. Wide angle is basically perfect, with the great color and detail persisting across the lenses, and the zoom is mind blowing and very freeing. The best uses I've found for the zoom are wildlife or nature photos, where you can frame something exactly and get it in crisp detail. Zooming up to 60x is usually the most you'll get away with, although I've managed to get a couple stunning shots at 100x, which is impossible on my brother's S21 Ultra. The night mode is so good it's almost a catch-22 (pun intended), if you take a picture at night it'll automatically do a long exposure night mode photo and the result just looks like daytime, complete with blue skies. This does mean if you want to preserve the dark night look, some adjustments or post touchups will be needed, although it's better to capture all the detail now and adjust later than to lose it all in the dark from the beginning. A good tip for using the camera is that photos never end up how they do from the viewfinder, there's a ton of post process done on every one (something you can turn off in pro mode if it's not your fancy) so you might just need to take a photo to see if it'll be good.Video performance is pretty good but can be hit or miss, although admittedly I don't take many videos. The same great color performance carries through most of the time but lighting can be a bit off, especially when you have a bright light in a dark room (i.e. a TV screen in a room at night) but it's usually taken care of with quick adjustments with the brightness slider. A good benchmark for video lighting is plays, as in live actors across a stage. Being a large dark room and wanting to capture what's going on can be tough for a lot of cameras but with a couple taps the S22 catches up and creates a surprisingly balanced and detailed video from what would normally be very non-optimal circumstances for phone cameras.Overall I think it's definitely an Ultra phone, it's got all the big numbers and lives up to them for me, even if they might not have in the device's between my Note and now. And while there aren't any new features compared to my Note, it doesn't mean this isn't the swiss army knife of phones, heck, electronic devices. As a tech enthused type I often need to do specific tasks for this and that and in specific ways for this device or that one, and this phone works every time when I use it, although for productivity my desktop computer is my first choice when I'm home. Samsung has made a very refined device, bringing all the best features from past devices and upgrading them to truly be worthy of the name Ultra. I'd recommend the phone to anyone looking for the absolute highest across the board, even if it doesn't do anything incredibly interesting like fold in half or have a ring light built in.

The Night time photos are easily the best night time capture I've ever seem on any handset.The Ultra comes with the loved or hated spen but for those who love them the S23 will keep you happy, my experience with the S23 Ultra is that the spen is more responsive than previously and just somehow seems more comfortable/natural in my hand.45w super fast charging 2.0 will have the battery from 0% to 60% in less than half an hour very convenient feature in my books.Screen is gorgeous and peaks brightness adaptively like I've not seen before. Paired with the stereo speaker set up the handset makes kicking back and streaming with earphones and straight off the speakers more than adequate, even impressive.All in all the S23 line up from samsung could have pushed boundaries a little further, could have broken some new ground and basically left me wanting more. $2400 and the device requires that you then purchase a 45w charger for another $70...Gone are the days where sumsung were vying for pole position amongst the Android population, they own the throne, they wear the crown and this S23 feels like they know they need not wow there fans this season

I am coming from a OnePlus 7 Pro (still running the ORIGINAL Oxygen OS (11)) and OnePlus WAS known for having a light Android skin tweaked for performance and battery life. Samsung could take some direction from OnePlus for tweaking their skin for better battery life and performance and leaving the extras that they add into their deployment of Android as plug-ins or software that can be loaded from the Galaxy Store.One of my main gripes with the software concerns Bluetooth in the following regards:1) The BT device menu popping up EACH TIME you turn on the BT radio (it is MIND NUMBINGLY ANNOYING)2) Not being able to see the battery life of the connected BT device directly in the status bar (as I can on my OnePlus) (and instead having to long-press on the BT icon (when the device is connected) from quick settings to see the battery life of the connected device. This is a HUGE miss and one that should be a STANDARD for Android as a whole (let alone the S22 Ultra).I could go on and on with other little details, but overall - OneUI has much room for improvement that I hope gets better with OneUI 5 and beyond.Area of Contention #2: Battery LifeI know that there are many factors involved in the battery life of a device and that battery life is a subjective topic person-to-person - HOWEVER, the battery life for the S22 Ultra SHOULD BE MUCH BETTER. Yes, I can make it through a day on a charge (I have the charge setting enabled to limit charging to 85%) and I only charge my device when I need to and not every night (I am trying to extend the life of the battery for as long as possible). However, with my OnePlus 7 Pro - I can EASILY make it a Day and a half before having to charge that device versus the S22 Ultra where I am true to have to top it up first thing in the morning following a previous day's use.I know that this is attributed to how the software and OS is optimized and there's not much that I can do about it (other than uninstalling apps that I don't use).Area of Contention #3: Speakers Performance.... Okay, there's no easy or nice way to put this but.... the speakers on the S22 Ultra are pure sh!t My OnePlus 7 Pro has a pair of speakers that blows the speakers on the S22 Ultra out of the water (and that device is 3+ years old!). For a $1000+ device, I expected speakers to be top-of-the-line and competing with the speakers from iOS-based phones - but instead, they are just pure trash and that is unacceptable.If I didn't invest so much into this device (case, screen protector, vinyl skins, etc.) - I would highly consider trading this phone in for the new Pixel 7 Pro. I may even consider trading this in for the S23 Ultra if that device has an improvement in the speakers (volume output, better bass tones, etc.) (YES, the speakers are THAT BAD).In conclusion, the S22 Ultra is a solid device that will MORE THAN fulfill your smartphone needs. It has areas that desperately need to be improved upon if Samsung continues to price this device in the $1000+ territory, but for the price, you're getting a device that will serve its purpose and then some.

But at least hopefully I could get it fixed as it was still within warranty, and this is where I come to the customer service portion of my review.Organising and getting a repair organised for my phone was a cumbersome and frustrating process, after having to factory reset my phone as part of their 'troubleshooting' before I could even book an appointment. Then when I finally was able to book a mobile repair which would be a week, the repair man was late by an hour making me have to wait around for ages. Then when he finally did take my phone, the truly shocking things happen.He stated that not only was my speaker broken but also the camera units where damaged and so he would have to replace the whole motherboard of the phone. He stated that he could tell these were not done my the consumer(me) and he was very puzzled on why this happened. He also commented saying that "it looked as if someone had previously been into the phone" which I was furious about as it was brand new phone purchased directly from Samsung. After this experience the phone was repaired and given back to me fully wiped for third time but the speaker was fixed and so apparently where the cameras which I was not aware were broken. However it still has constant connectivity issues.Now after this experience I called Samsung customer service hoping that I could get a replacement phone, however it seems I was truly mistaken. As they said that the phone would have to fail in the exact same way 3 times before the phone would be replaced. Also when I confronted them about the issue that the repair man brought of up of it looking like the phone had been openend up before, they just said this may be because of how it was manufactured as it is done by hand. Which honestly is not at all a reasonable excuse for a faulty device, basically admitting their manufacturing process is inferior and that clearly their is no form of quality control.As this review is getting very long I suppose i should summarise my experience with the S22 ultra, I believe that it is a truly over priced phone thats only truly good feature is the camera. My customer service experience was terrible and the phone it's self I would only ever describe as okay to someone. I would certainly never recommend anyone buys it, or their new S23 ultra as that just looks like a rebrand of an S22 and again I imagine is a terrible waste of money. For spending over a thousand pounds on a phone you would never expect it to go wrong and certainly not in the first few months of ownership. I have had a very unpleasant experience from Samsung and will definitely be going for another phone/technology company in the future.I hope this hopes future buyers, and I genuinely and very disappointed that this is what I got from my experience.

I've had the S22 Ultra for around 6 months now and a few months ago it started having issues with charging, issues with connecting to my car system, issues with the screen freezing, issues with sending/receiving messages (although that could be a problem with my service), and just seems to get slower and slower every day. It causes me daily frustration, so much so that even though I still owe a large amount of money on it I'm ready to do an early upgrade (or downgrade) and go back to a different, less expensive but more reliable phone model. Also, the camera that's supposed to be so awesome? Photos look great - until you zoom in on them. The photos come out so pixelated and blurry, even though I keep the lens clean. I used to get much better photos using way cheaper phone cameras with less megapixels. I'm so disappointed with this phone. Taking it in for a possible warranty repair to deal with the charging/USB connection and freezing issues today but if they can't do anything, I'll just have to eat the hundreds of dollars I still owe and buy something else because I cannot continue using this garbage phone.

I purchased discounted Samsung earbuds with my S22 Ultra so the omitted headphone jack is not an issue for me but I must admit that not having the SD card still disappoints as costs us more to buy the phone versions with expanded memory... and that's why I purchased the 256GB version of this phone.I would've gotten the 512GB version but it was sold out at the various places that offered the best discounts that I received. But with all its features, I didn't think the basic 128GB version would be enough memory to last me for the possible 2-3 years that I plan to have this device while using its UHD pictures, videos, games & apps. I highly recommend this device if you can afford it and if you can/will use most of its wonderful features. If not, you should consider the other S22 versions with a little less features and for less money. They are all practical, progressive & entertaining devices but only if the features fit/satisfy your needs & preferences... so do you research.I love my Unlocked S22 Ultra 256GB cellphone/micro pc! LOL. I'm thankful for it & I highly recommend it for work, rest & play!

The WORST Samsung flagship phone EVER! Do not buy!

So I'm repeating myself here, since my original review never got published (despite the email I got saying that it was)I have had almost every Samsung flagship since the Galaxy S4 and loved them all. I've stayed loyal to the brand, praised it for the ability to actually listen to its customers, and laughed at Apple users until now. Apparently, Samsung just stopped caring, since the S22 Ultra is nothing but a disappointment. I'm not gonna ramble on about the headphone jack and the SD card slot that we lost quite some time ago, although it would be nice to have those back. Just the fact that a $1600 smartphone keeps glitching and freezing is simply OUTRAGEOUS. Using media apps like YouTube, Netflix, HBO etc. has become a huge pain in the butt, the phone starts going crazy jumping from one screen to another as soon as I leave these apps. During the first month with this phone I couldn't even open HBO because it kept crashing. It seems that Samsung simply launched an underdeveloped and very raw piece of technology, apart from that putting on it the highest price tag ever, greedy much? And there's lots of rumors about the S23 Ultra which is suddenly all the hype, a polished and improved version of S22, which should have been there in the first place. Also, what happened to the double SIM slot?? My S21 Ultra had it, but after upgrading I find out that I can't use both my personal and work SIM at the same time? My provider charges an additional monthly fee for using e-SIMs, who's going to compensate that? I run my own business, work almost exclusively from the smartphone and travel a lot, so that's another HUGE issue for me.... Impatiently waiting to trade in this piece of crap for the next model, hopefully Samsung will have the decency to accept their mistakes and offer very good trade-in conditions. However, if the next model doesn't meet expectations I will be forced to part ways with Samsung... other brands have already caught up with the technology and offer the same (or better?) quality products for a fraction of the price
