The battery life is really good and I haven't had any issues with the phone so far - admittedly I've only had it for 2 weeks. Previously I had the S20+ which I thought was really nice until my cat knocked over a vase onto my phone and cracked the screen! Reluctantly, I decided to upgrade rather than replace the screen (£250 - £300, ouch!). I say reluctantly because I had tried to upgrade late last year to a S22 but sent it back because it wouldn't even last a full day on one charge. I was very pleased to experience the complete opposite with the S23+ which can easily make two days on one charge and that's with GPS / Location, WiFi, Mobile Data all permanently switched on. I appreciate that both the S20+ and the S23+ phones have bigger batteries than the regular models and therefore it might seem unfair to compare to the S22, but they also have much bigger screens too; I thought that a S22 would have easily matched my 3yr old S20+ for battery time but it didn't, even with the smaller screen. The S23+ has definitely been the quickest phone to set up using Samsung Smart switch, taking my complete set up including WiFi passwords and Google account but guess I'm not totally sure if that's down to the phone, the UI or both. The speakers sound good and clear, the screen is very nice and I don't have to buy any 3rd party app to enable the side button to active Google Assist instead of Bixby (via routines). The only negatives I can think of is that I can't insert an SD Card to expand storage size and, being used to the S20+, the flat shape seems a little 'blocky' - placing both phones next to each other they are both the same thickness but the S20+ appears thinner due to the curved edges. Cloud storage and the fact the S23+ has a minimum 256gb storage doesn't really make the SD Card a big issue for me personally, and it's easy to forget about the slightly 'blocky' design when the battery lasts this good.

However, coming from an iPhone, I did find the transition slightly challenging due to the different button placements and navigation gestures. It took some time to get accustomed to, but eventually, I adapted to the new interface.Performance:The Samsung S23 Ultra's performance is nothing short of outstanding. The powerful processor and ample 512GB storage ensure smooth multitasking and lightning-fast app launches. The phone handles resource-intensive tasks effortlessly, whether it's gaming, video editing, or running demanding applications. The large 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display is a treat for media consumption, offering sharp visuals and immersive viewing angles. The 120Hz refresh rate enhances the overall fluidity of the user experience.Camera:Samsung's reputation for exceptional camera performance is upheld with the S23 Ultra. The quad-camera setup, featuring a 108MP main sensor, captures stunning photos with incredible detail and dynamic range. The telephoto lens offers an impressive 100x Space Zoom capability, although it can sometimes result in a loss of quality at extreme zoom levels. The camera software provides a range of shooting modes and editing options, allowing for creative expression and flexibility in capturing memorable moments.Software:Moving from iOS to Samsung's One UI took some adjustment. While I appreciate the customization options and the freedom to personalize my device, I found the user interface to be slightly cluttered and not as intuitive as iOS. However, once I familiarized myself with the settings and layout, I found it to be a functional and feature-rich operating system. The integration of Samsung's services and ecosystem is commendable, offering a seamless experience across multiple devices.Battery Life:The battery life of the Samsung S23 Ultra is impressive, easily lasting through a full day of moderate to heavy usage. The large battery capacity, coupled with optimization features, ensures that power-intensive tasks and multimedia consumption don't drain the battery too quickly. The inclusion of fast charging and wireless charging capabilities is a welcome addition, allowing for quick top-ups when needed. Conclusion:As a former iPhone user, I took a leap of faith in switching to the Samsung S23 Ultra, and it has proven to be a worthwhile decision. With its sleek design, impressive performance, versatile camera system, and excellent battery life, the S23 Ultra offers a compelling package. While the transition to the Samsung ecosystem required a slight learning curve, it opened up new possibilities and features that I hadn't experienced with my previous device. Overall, the Samsung S23 Ultra has exceeded my expectations and has made me appreciate the advancements in the Android world.
OK, I think we all knew that this phone would be almost identical to the S22 Ultra. Apart from the rear lenses (to make us all purchase new cases), I haven't really seen a great difference in the latest model.I have, however, noticed that battery performance is nowhere near as good as on the S22 ultra. Reading numerous posts on various community websites, it would appear this is down to a software update in February! If this is the case, I would hope Samsung put out an update to remedy this soon. Currently the battery wouldn't last more than a few hours of medium usage.Neither have I noticed a massive change in performance with the Snapdragon chip (especially in the hyped increase to battery performance). This, of course, may be something to do with the large amount of bloatware Samsung put on the device!I'm of the opinion that all manufacturers need to stop putting out incidental updates, calling them new devices, when in actual fact, we can all see it is merely an update, rather than a substantially new device. I would rather wait a while longer, and actually get a much better device, apposed to minor tweaks that should and could have come in software/firmware updates.Neither have I found an opportunities, or the inclination to find anywhere to make use of the much hyped 200X camera. My only attempt to test out the advanced night vision, resulted in me tripping over a brick outside. Not go to rely on that again lol (tongue in cheek comments yes, but based on facts).Well, I have learnt from my mistakes, and this will be the last yearly upgrade I have. To be honest, there isn't much more they can do unless there is a major change in technology, so I might as well keep thus phone for a few years and save some money. In addition, the price and trade in deals available now, really don't make it a viable option, despite what the plethora of reviewers ("click on the my link in the description for an exclusive discount (given to everyone anyway!!!)) would have us believe. Clearly not only do they get a free device in addition to payment for their reviews, few are honest with their reviews rather giving a personalised script to read. Rant over!Honestly, I wouldn't personally recommend anyone upgrading from the S22 Ultra, rather "miss a beat" and see what comes out next year or so. In addition to letting 6G roll out and let it get itself established. Hopefully we should also see battery technology change with the increasing demand on performance and stability, hopefully giving us batteries that do actually give us more than a few "real world scenario" hours of usage. Now wouldn't that be good.Regrettably, I'm not as impressed with the S23 ultra as I had hoped to be, and to the same extent I was with the new Samsung Watch 5 Pro, which actually lives up to the hype. Sorry again for the rant. However, this is my honest opinion.

I originally planned on trading in my S22 Ultra to free myself from the subpar 8 Gen 1 performance and questionable battery life. But, as life is full of unexpected turns, I found myself holding a phone that felt not like one generational leap, but two.Starting from the build quality and industrial design language, the immediate thing I noticed was the level of refinement achieved over the S22 Ultra of yesteryear. Not only the ergonomics of the phone have been greatly improved thanks to slightly rounded squared-off edges, but the precision in material tolerances has been greatly improved. Compared to its predecessors (S22 Ultra, S21 Ultra, and Note20 Ultra) Samsung has completely removed any rough edges found on any surface transitions on the device. This, ... Compared to its predecessors (S22 Ultra, S21 Ultra, and Note20 Ultra) Samsung has completely removed any rough edges found on any surface transitions on the device. This, combined with a refined design language that makes for a completely different feel despite the upgrade from the S22 Ultra to the S23 Ultra appearing to be incremental.Performance-wise, the jump is as big as it gets. Gaming performance has increased greatly over the entirety of Samsung's lineup in the past with the only concern being the power behaviour. Drawing up to 6.4 on average in heavier games is quite concerning considering other phones draw significantly less. But this isn't to say they haven't improved, getting a 50 - 60 frames per second at 6.4 watts average is much better than the 25 - 30 frames per second at more 7 watts I was getting with their previous phones. In everyday usage, not only the battery life is almost on par with my testing with Apple's Pro Max line (12 through to 14), but the phone runs a lot cooler in daily tasks; I found YouTube playback on the 5G network to be a lot more stable and cooler compared to the S22 Ultra or even the Z Fold4.Camera performance was not something I had expected to have such a big improvement. Yes, our world can be filled with marketing making us make biased decisions, but I believe Samsung was not exaggerating with their new wide module. I initially joked about the 200mp sensor as just another gimmick considering the sensor size hasn't vastly increased compared to the competition, but after using it in the real world, I was quickly proven wrong. Not only the 200mp mode is usable with adequate HDR, but the 12mp binned images were impressively void of oversharpening compared to the S22 Ultra. Skin tones have also vastly improved with the AI treatment being minimally invasive with a tasteful skin softening while keeping surface imperfections intact. Think of a detailed portrait that doesn't look gritty but is presentable. This improvement in processing and colour science is also transferred to all the other lenses. The last but probably the most important thing is media consumption. The first thing I noticed after setting up my phone was the speakers. From the S7, Samsung's speakers had been questionable (outside of their foldable line-up which has very performant speakers) but this year, they have redeemed themselves with flagship-grade speakers. The sub-bass performance is not industry-leading, but the mids and upper mids are very well represented. Treble could be a little harsh at times, but the speaker performance is significantly more pleasant than other Android handsets. Distortion is still present at higher volumes, but this is expected on all smartphones at volumes beyond 70%. Comparing to the competition, the speakers can not be directly compared to Apple's speakers - as their tonality is completely different - but purely from their performance, Samsung has finally caught up.Overall, the days of me pointing my friends towards the iPhone over the Samsung is over. In fact, I have been trying to reel them in from their decision to move to Galaxy again. I trust the S23 Ultra during my double shifts to not require a visit to the wall for power and trust it will perform well when I need it. This review is extremely brief, and its positive facade only covers the most notable changes I've found. There is a lot more I can discuss, but in hindsight, this is not the platform to explore deeper. Samsung has finally done it this year and have delivered a not just satisfactory product, but a revolution in their S line in the right direction.

Firstly, battery performance is nothing short of superb - I have my S23 Ultra's battery charging limit set to 85% and I get a full day's worth of heavy use before needing a charge. Secondly, there is a new 200MP ISOCELL HP2 main camera sensor and it is a step up in low-light photography and image crispness compared to previous years. Coupled with industry-leading software support and optimisations (5 years of software security support and punctual monthly updates), plus industry-defining features like the S Pen and Expert RAW (which allows professional photography-level of customisation for epic looking images), the technical qualities of the S23 Ultra is unmatched in the industry.Perhaps less-often mentioned is Samsung's excellent trade-in program and generous pre-order bonuses which lowers the entry price point for new users into the Galaxy exosystem. This year's was particularly good, with additional bonus credit to purchase other Galaxy gadgets to a free double-your-storage upgrade. All in all, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is an unbeatable hardware and software behemoth coupled with a unique value proposition, and should not missed if you are in the market for a mobile phone in 2023.
