A feature-rich step forward
I upgraded to the Samsung S24 Ultra from the S22+ and in a series of phones that i previously felt was stagnating in terms of added value and new feature set, it feels like it has taken a big step forward with the S24. I went for the Ultra mainly as i wanted the better camera and it was worth every penny. The S24 Ultra is a powerhouse of a phone, with the 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display providing a beautiful screen to look at, a super fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor that works in harmony with the hardware, and a 5000 mAh battery that, so far, has allowed me to go a whole day on several occasions with a charge. I only ever charge to 80%, so over time i am keen to see if it maintains this capacity. The new Galaxy AI really does add a lot of useful features that i ... I only ever charge to 80%, so over time i am keen to see if it maintains this capacity. The new Galaxy AI really does add a lot of useful features that i can actually use!As mentioned, I opted for the ultra due to its top end camera system. It' quad camera setup with a 200 MP main sensor, a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens, a 10 MP telephoto lens, and a 12 MP ultrawide lens has so far taken stunning pictures, although i am yet to try it properly at night pointed at the stars to see how it handles astrophotography. The 2 MP selfie camera also takes great portrait pictures and videos.I've flex'd a few of the galaxy AI features so far, with perhaps the most brilliant (and useful for me) being Circle to Search , which allows me to quickly find information about anything I see on the screen just by circling it - whether its on a webpage, a picture I have taken or even a video. Chat assist seems decent enough automatically choose the best tone for my messages, depending on the context and the recipient, but not sure its something ill use a lot, as most of my messaging is ususally pretty short. The phone also comes with a Bluetooth S Pen, which lets me write, draw, and control the phone with gestures. As good as the pen is, i actually think its best feature is the button on the S-pen, which lets me remotely control the phone by clicking in (such as to take pictures). I think we can find some more cool uses for this! The S24 Ultra is the best phone I’ve ever owned, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a premium and powerful smartphone. It has everything I need and more, and it’s worth every penny it you want premium, fast, and luxury!... Show more

Amazing Smart Phone from Samsung
Having used Android phones for the past 13 years, and Samsung phones for the last 6, I was impressed at how snappy and responsive the S24 Ultra felt. The build quality seems very good and matches what I would expect from a premium phone at this price point. The device feels very comfortable to use, and the new AI focussed features have already become second nature – the circle to search function is very useful when watching videos and you suffer from face blindness! The speaker and sound quality is very striking. As someone who is heavily into music production, goes to lengths to use audiophile grade headphones and listens to music on studio monitors, I was taken aback at how good this phones speakers actually sounded. As someone who is heavily into music production, goes to lengths to use audiophile grade headphones and listens to music on studio monitors, I was taken aback at how good this phones speakers actually sounded. I was expecting a tinny speaker with no bottom end, but the large aperture for the bottom speaker certainly provided more low end than I was expecting and I found myself impressed at the quality, I would even go as far as to say I enjoyed listening to music through it!Having not used an S-Pen for anything other than doodling, I found it quite tough to get started with it, though once I found the instructions the gestures felt natural and easy to get to grips with. My handwriting is terrible so I was surprised to find that the software was able to interpret my scrawl with a pretty good degree of accuracy, though I think it’s a little too inaccurate for me to use daily – having to go back and edit misinterpreted words meant I put the pen down and fell back to the keyboard anyway.I was impressed how responsive the fingerprint sensor was compared to my old S10e’s fingerprint scanner and even seems a step up from my S23e Ultra’s scanner. The one downside I did see was that once I added a screen protector the sensitivity of the scanner was reduced. The battery life is brilliant compared to other smart phones I own, even surviving two days of fairly heavy use between charges which surpassed my expectations. The camera quality is incredible, I especially enjoyed the macro shots I could take, having this level of fidelity in a handheld device is amazing. One thing I found when poking through the setting is the adaptive battery protection, which is a very interesting feature. I don’t recall seeing this when setting the phone up so calling this out would have been a nice touch.I'm very happy with my new purchase and I am looking forward to discovering more about the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and all of it's intuitive features.... A truly great phone
I decided it was time to upgrade from my old Samsung S21 Ultra and what I found was small incremental but undeniable improvements all over the place the end result, however, is a giant leap forward as a phone. The biggest improvement I can see straightway is the reduction in time between pressing the shutter button and taking the photo massively increasing your chances of capturing the moment.Samsung have also swapped the 10x to 5x max optical zoom which may sound like a downgrade but I hardly ever used 10x zoom it was too grainy and difficult to take a good photo with. The 5x zoom is far more usable and the sensor is so much better. The arrival of my phone coincided with bird week at my daughter's school which meant we were able to utilise all of the cameras on ... The 5x zoom is far more usable and the sensor is so much better. The arrival of my phone coincided with bird week at my daughter's school which meant we were able to utilise all of the cameras on our little nature walk. This emphasised the improvements in shutter speed and also the clarity of the 5x zoom camera in challenging lighting conditions. It performed well capturing fast-moving birds accurately at dawn.Bird watching also allowed me to test out the Galaxy AI features especially the circle to search which was a real time saver and simplified the whole naming of the birds we saw on our nature walk and those we spotted in our back garden.Another upgrade that everyone except Samsung has been talking about is to the upgraded screen material. The S24 Ultra now features a flat-screen with Gorilla Glass Victus. Whilst I had previously always thought curved screens made phones look more premium such as my old S8 and S21 Ultra this phone with its Titanium rails and camera surrounds doesn't look or feel any less premium. The screen has also reduced glare and reflections making it far less straining on the eyes. Finally, this phone comes with seven years of OS and security updates which is huge. Hopefully, that will be reflected in its resale or trade-in value in 3 years time.I don't know how to express how much of an improvement this phone is over my old Samsung S21 Ultra. It's like someone listened to all my gripes with my old phone and improved every little thing. It truly is a great phone.... Show more

But the problem is, most other phones, including its siblings in the Galaxy lineup, will as well. What a buyer of this device is looking for is unparalleled function with no compromise on form - and that's where the Galaxy S24 Ultra does fall short.Let's look at hardware first. Despite its large footprint, it doesn't have the largest battery in its class - presumably because of the space taken up by the S Pen's slot. At the same time, the 5000mah battery will comfortably get you through the day. There are phones on the market with IP68 rating, alongside a side USB-C port (for landscape gaming) with a 3.5mm jack - here the Galaxy S24 Ultra just brings the standard singular USB-C port on the bottom. There are no auxilliary displays on the rear of the phone, and again Samsung has persisted with no notification LED on the front side either. Again, it's been in the design language since the S10 era and expected, but it does feel like an incremental refinement rather than a bold step forward in innovation. The speaker set up is again standard, but lacking if you hold your phone in landscape as you'd likely obscure the primary speaker. In terms of software, Samsung's claim to fame this generation is Galaxy AI. While some might find these features useful, for someone whose phone is primarily a transactional and away-from-home substitute for a computer - it didn't take long for me to completely disable Bixby and image processing (which didn't produce quite natural looking images anyway). The battery care features are appreciated, but more polish would have been expected - for example - why not offer the user an option in the notifications pane to skip the charging limit once, or enable fast charging once - this would be such a quality of life improvement for those wanting to have those options set to preserve battery lifespan, but still allow exceptions (say when travelling) without having to dig through the menus to turn them off/on and remember to do the opposite. The same thing does with "Do not Disturb" mode - with AI and machine learning surely it would be easy enough to implement either an algorithm or more options to have the mode play nicely with bedtime/sleep mode, with again a notification to temporarily disable it for 30 minutes or for the day. That said, the software is solid out of the box, and so is Samsung's dedication to support the phone with regular updates. While I would like to see Samsung continue to push the envelope personally, I understand that they're unlikely to do this with the standard S series (kudos to them on the Z series though) - nevertheless, one can keep hoping!... Huge Upgrade with a sprinkling of AI Magic
With my previous phone being the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, it was time for an upgrade and moving to the S24 iteration of Samsung's flagships has been a monumental upgrade in so many ways:The physical appearance of the phone for a start, the completely flat screen feels uniform and slick amd with the matt metal frame there is instantly a top quality premium feel to the phone. The camera lenses placement on the rear of the phone again is another example of how Samsung have refined the build of the phone in every way to make ot the best looking Samsung Galaxy I've seen & used. Then turning the phone on immediately the screen jumps out as being seriously impressive. The QHD+ display is pin point sharp and with the increased peak brightness of the Galaxy S24 series I am able to see the sheer complete beauty of this screen in in the most brightly lit environments. The Galaxy UI software is incredibly intuitive, with seemingly endless customisation options to really personalise the phone to how I want through the menus, apps, wallpapers and backgrounds. The Generative AI Wallpaper creator is a really fun feature to use. Creating impressive AI wallpapers from different options that I can choose. The Photo AI editor is also massively impressive. Being able to make changes to images that are then indistinguishable is fantastic. Of course some photos with challenging lighting, shadows and textures can prove to be harder for the AI to interpret, but from my usage so far I'd say 90% of the photos I've edited using the AI Editor have come out extremely well. The new Circle to Search feature us also fantastic, being able to identify where clothing items are from, what the location of buildings are etc all from the phone screen I'm on at the time. Regardless of what app I can use this feature with a simple press and circle.AI is also impressive with the Samsung Note summary and auto format feature aswell as Summarising webpages that I am on. All features that I've found myself using on a daily basis.Speaking of efficency, the battery life has been superb thus far. The added battery protection settings provide further piece of mind for battery durability but I've been amazed so far with how much I've been able to use my phone. The cameras, a perfect set up with the different lenses. And with the multiple shooting modes for my work I've been able to shoot 4k video and edit it all on my phone.A productivity king with magic of AI the icing on the cake.... Show more

The zoom functionality is like having a telescope in your pocket! I can't wait to go on holiday and take some landscape photos as the image quality seems a major upgrade from my previous phone which produced some fantastic images.Features: The built in pen is a first for me and I am finding this extremely useful. It allows you to take remote photos as well as adding notes and amending photos - cropping elements out of the photo with more accuracy.I have used the live translate feature a few times and I have found this to be very accurate (foreign language speaking friends) Just need to wait for a holiday to try this out for real.AI: I am still getting to grips with this and I think this will take more time to get used to as a new feature to the phone but initial elements seem good and I'm sure software updates will continue to enhance this.Recommendation: As with all previous Samsung phones, the build quality and capabilities continues to improve and as such, this phone is capable of being a powerful device for a number of years.... This is the best Samsung has ever done!
I bought it on the actual day of the launching (January 17th) during the Samsung Unpacked event, and my preorder arrived on January 25th which was actually 1 week before the official retail day. That part alone is already an amazing experience! The unboxing experience is superb as Samsung has finally mastered the "suspense" portion of the package unboxing experience. Although we know Samsung is trying to commit for a greener future, it would have been nice if we went back to getting the free accessories we once used to get (I think the last one was the Note 20 Ultra). The phone itself has a premium build quality aesthetic, and though now opting for a flat display, still has the nice curved body frame which allows for a better grip. The titanium finish on the frame is superb as it is finally fingerprint resistant. The screen has also been improved to 2600 nits of peak brightness. I did notice however that the saturation levels are lower compared to older flagships, but this may just be caused by the antireflective coating of the Corning Gorilla Armor.Camera-wise, opting for a 3X + 5X combo for the telephoto was another good decision as it improved the usable focal lengths for everyday photography (most especially portraits). The new 5X 50MP sensor still delivers a very competitive quality 10X zoom thanks to the new sensor crop algorithm. Although 100X zoom has less overall detail compared from an S21 Ultra, the usable zoom range has been improved as quality of photos and videos from 0.6x to 20x/30x has increase significantly. Overall, the photo and video capabilities of the S24 Ultra is a testament of how Samsung commits to innovation. The new AI features are amazing as well, most importantly the new Notes Organizer, Magic Compose, and Circle to Search, as they improve the efficiency of an everyday workflow. Product prints indicate that these features are free until the end of 2025, but we do hope that they would extend this, or at least make most of the AI features built in on device.Again, kudos to Samsung for a very well made product!Proud owner of a Titanium Black S24 Ultra (coming from a Note 9/S21 Ultra).PS. Tweaked to near perfection
Have been using the S24 Ultra for a few weeks now after previously trying the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra - Samsung have pretty much hit the mark for me this year.Firstly, the design isn't anything radically different from before but the combination of flat display (much prefer this to curved displays) and the type of glass/coating used means the device is so much better to use. The flat display enhances the use with the S-Pen in my opinion and the lack of reflections on the edges as well as the improved reflection performance across the screen just makes the devices so much easier to use in all lighting conditions.Much has been talked about online about the 'Vivid' setting of the display not being as bold or punchy as before - what the setting now offers though is ... The camera is good, but will likely become great after a few software upgrades, the AI functions work very well and the overall feeling is of a daily workhorse device that really doesn't have any major negatives. The only thing I wish Samsung could incorporate next time would just be a way to soften the corners of the device - these are a bit on the harsh side and likely to shred through pocket linings at a rapid pace! All in all though - the S23 Ultra comes highly, highly recommended. Great work Samsung.... Show more

Ultra Phone but Room for Improvement
Having used the Galaxy Fold series for the past few years I decided to test out the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to see how it stands out and I have to say - it is a really great phone.Right out of the box the device feels sleek and is very nice to hold. The display is sharp and has all the features you would expect from a flagship Samsung phone. The camera is great for taking everyday photographs and videos of family and friends. I find it much easier just to Google something (maybes that's just my age) rather than try and use the AI. I think the technology will become second nature in the future but for now I feel this is just a big selling feature for this phone rather than a practical tool. The S Pen is a great added feature and takes me back to the days of the Samung Note devices which i loved. I haven't used the S Pen a great deal but I like the fact that it is snugly hidden away within the device and ready to use at anytime. One thing missing from this device is the opportunity for Super Fast Charging. Other mobile devices already have this but Samsung have not incorporated this into any of their new devices. I believe this would be a major selling point if Samsung could utilise this technology. The device charges from 0 to full (or 85% if using the battery protection mode) in around 1 hour and 30 mins where as similar devices can charge in around 30 mins. This would be a great feature for people like myself who don't have time to stop and wait long for the device to charge. The battery itself is good - lasting anywhere between 24 and 36 hours (this is with hourly use of the device) but super fast charging would be an added bonus. This is an ultra device which will work well for most people however I feel that there are a couple of additional things that would have made this phone the best on the market and although the AI is a nice touch, I still feel its a little too early to enjoy it to it's full potential....
