Google the screen issues, there's far more there than the good reviews suggest as most are not long term reviews. Ultimately, samsung has a manufacturing/design issues. The flip phone with modern touch screens just arent yet robust/advanced enough to be reliable. I can appreciate innovation and fair play to them for it, but ultimately, the phone comes ar a premium. Nearly 1k for a phone is absurb in general, especially given that its got a bang average camera and standard android OS. You're literally paying halfnthe cost for the novelty of a flip that actually isnt that well engineered. The protective cover can and will break, sooner rather than later for many. Samsung even suggest this, fair enough, and first repair is free. However, you have to send your phone off to have this done and then pay for any future screen repairs (approx 300) which will be required again regardless. How on earth can you release a phone with known design issues/robustness concerns, so much so you have a free first repair set up in anticipation, with knowledge future repairs will be needed, that you have to pay for, because the phone isnt reliable. It's at that point you have to step back and consider if £1000 is worth it for a phone you will lose every 6-12 months for a repair, which you'll foot the bill for towards the end anyway.Samsung arent alone in their shoddy customer service. Ultimately its a throw away society and most people change phones every 18 months so most will take a hit on one repair and upgrade to a new version that promises the world or just buy a different phone when the novelty wears off. They've sold loads, they've made their money so why do anything different. This review and the issues are on me in all honesty. I knew samsungs track record, ive experienced it, i think ive just reached that grumpy age where it just isnt funny anymore.Nobody at samsung will read this or inevitably care with global sales. But im now in the camp of never buying another samsung product again. Ill buy a mid/lower range phone at a fraction of the price that doesnt cost me additionally 12 months down the line.

Coming from an S21, this phone is great, but..

Foldables have captured my attention ever since their introduction in 2019. I was eagerly waiting for the day that they were actually viable for everyday use. Enter the Flip3.The price dropped, it's more durable, waterproof, and has a better cover screen. I knew I had to have it. I was currently enjoying my S21 coming from an iPhone, and the transition to Android was flawless, so I decided to get the Flip.Let's start with cosmetics. It looks amazing. Samsung really improved the looks from the previous Flip, which looked like a boring monolith. The cover screen is a lot better too, and I find myself using it a lot more than I thought I would. It feels great in the hand, and the display doesn't feel much different from my S21. It feels great in the hand, and the display doesn't feel much different from my S21. Obviously, since the phone folds, it now fits in a lot more places, like shirt pockets, holsters, and smaller pockets in general. There is also the cool factor. When people see you bend and unbend what looks like a small wallet into a smartphone, you get some questions. Overall, it's a great looking phone. But looks aren't everything, so let's talk about this phone's performance. There's a lot to cover, so I'll do a pros/cons section here.Pros: Chip, main and cover displays, speakersThe golden parts of the performance start with the chip. This phone has a Snapdragon 888, same as the S21 series. This means that this phone is packing an awesome chip. The main and cover displays are also a strong area of the phone, and also a great improvement over the last Flip. You can actually do stuff on the cover screen now (crazy, I know!), and the main display is now almost the same as the S21 display, with the only difference being its size, aspect ratio, and having 1200 nits peak brightness instead of 1300 nits. Lastly, the speakers are good too. They get loud and sound great, again, a huge improvement over the mono speaker of the previous Flip.Neutrals: Camera, durability, chargingNext, the things that aren't good, but aren't bad either. The cameras are alright. There's nothing wrong with them at all, they take good photos. They are just old. They are similar to the cameras on the original Flip, which uses the cameras of the S10e, so these cameras aren't new, but they take good photos, so I won't complain too much about them. Next, durability. For the first time in Z Flip history, the durability is neutral instead of terrible! Hooray Samsung! This phone is waterproof, but it's not rated against dust, which is a huge step forward. Previous Flips shouldn't go anywhere near water. The display and main body is also much more resilient, leading to these breaking less than the previous Flip. Lastly, the charging is, well, fine. 15W isn't fast, but at least it's not 5W or 10W. 15W is totally tolerable in 2022.Cons: Battery, aspect ratioThe worst part about this phone is the battery. It's not bad, it can get you through a full day, but it's just mediocre for a 6.7" $1000 phone. You'd think that if a 6.2" compact phone can have 4000 MAH, then a 6.7" can have at least that as well. They did have to make the phone thinner though, as well as accommodating the hinge, but even 3500 MAh would have made the phone so much better. Next, the aspect ratio. Why is the phone so darn tall?! This makes apps very strange sometimes. Most apps are fine on this phone, but many aren't. You have to go into display settings to force it to use full screen, which should just happen automatically. Actually, it shouldn't happen at all, the phone should just be shorter! Now, I'd like to talk about the biggest benefit of having a Flip style smartphone. First of all, especially if you have a Galaxy watch paired with it, you slowly learn how to use the phone less. With a regular phone, that beautiful Full HD 120HZ LTPO OLED display is staring at you, and if it's not, the triple camera setup is. You can practically hear the phone telling you to spend 2 hours scrolling. This doesn't happen on the Flip. Opening the phone is now a more conscious decision, so it doesn't just happen anymore. This means you can now look at your notifications, or think about the task you were going to do, and judge if it really needs attention. This leads to not being absorbed into your phone as much, and I found myself being much less attached to it, and more connected to reality. This, in my opinion, is the best part of having a Flip.

Last month I opened my phone to find a hairline section that had not cracked, but pulled away from the underlying portion of the screen. The display and touch function remained intact at this point. I began limiting my use of the phone and tried to not use the flip function as much as I could. However, I find myself 1 month later with a larger ~1.5cm section that pulled away right where the hinge is and now the display underneath has turned black. The bottom half of the display is functional, but the top half tough function no longer works and is slowly turning black. We contacted AT&T about the issue. They told us it was a manufacturing issue and sent us to Samsung. After talking with them, they claim it couldn't possibly be a design flaw and I would need to pay for a replacement screen. The screen is not covered under the 1 year warranty. My options at this point are paying $550 to replace my screen, or trade the phone in for $100. Looking at the forums online for this phone, issues with the screen appear to be a common occurrence with daily use happening anytime after 3 months of owning this phone.

This leads to not being absorbed into your phone as much, and I found myself being much less attached to it, and more connected to reality. This, in my opinion, is the best part of having a Flip.

Excellent phone, poor design
8 January 2023

I bought this phone a little under 1 year ago. It was so convenient being a women to have a small phone again. The features and camera were excellent as well. Until 1 month ago, I was very pleased with my purchase of this phone and would have given it a 5 star review.

I truly regret buying this device.
7 January 2023

People seem to like this device but I have had nothing but a terrible experience with it. Week 2 of using this phone (and liking it so far), I noticed a small crack in the glass developing right where the fold is. At first, I thought it might just be the factory screen protector but as the crack grew, I realized that it was indeed the glass. The next day, a black line appeared across the fold area, which grew larger the more I closed the phone, so at that point I just left it open. Right about when the black bar appeared across the middle, the top half of the screen stopped responding to touch. It was all still visible but when you touch it, nothing happens. Needless to say, navigating your phone using only the bottom half of the screen is difficult and frustrating. ... MorePeople seem to like this device but I have had nothing but a terrible experience with it. I have my service through Xfinity so when I took it into the store they told me I had to deal with Samsung directly. After waiting on hold for an hour, I was told I'd have to send my phone to them for evaluation, where they'd determine whether it was defective or it was due to me damaging it. Damaging it?!? By opening and closing it, as I assumed it was designed to do?? Shocking. So, either way, even if Samsung does conclude it is defective (which it obviously is), I don't have a phone for 2 weeks. Normally, that would be fine but I have to use the phone for making and receiving work calls. They also wont let me get a different phone unless i pay off the Zflip first. They really have me by the short hairs on this one. So in conclusion, I do see positive reviews for this product and i get it. My first week of the Zflip3 was great... But, overall this has been a painful process and I truly regret taking the risk on this new prototype of a product.

Lovely Idea - Terrible manufacturing
4 March 2023

First of all, I did love the novelty of it. I grew up in the original era of flip phones and as far as technology goes currently, this is a great little bit of kit that pushes the boundaries. However, with any new technology there are teething issues.I have had my flip z3 for just over 12 months and almost to the day of anniversary, I had the dreaded crease in the screen protector, which eventually turned into a full blown tear and removal of the screen protector. Took to a local EE store who said Samsung will charge me around £300 for a screen repair/replacement. I was ever so slightly stunned by this, given its a commonly known issue and at least in my eyes a manufacturing fault/issue.Appreciate the concept of additional insurance but in all honesty that ... MoreFirst of all, I did love the novelty of it. I was ever so slightly stunned by this, given its a commonly known issue and at least in my eyes a manufacturing fault/issue.Appreciate the concept of additional insurance but in all honesty that should be for misuse, accidental damage etc, rather than something caused by just poor product design/robustness.Considering my contract is over £50 p/m I can't justify the splashing of £300-ish on a screen on a phone that is more than likely prone to do this again in a year and cost the same again. At that point, I might as well bite the bullet, take an early upgrade or just get a second hand iPhone and bin this one.I've had Samsung, iPhone, Nokia and all manner of weird and wonderful phones in the past. I don't consider myself biased or particularly bothered about brand loyalty. Samsung have always made some interesting and novel phones and android has always been a great system for a whole host of apps. I have to say at this point I think once the novelty of opening and closing it wore off, I started to see it as essentially just another android phone. Given the fact that I now have a phone with a known development issue and will be asked to pay an extortionate amount to fix it, with a high possibility it will break again in 12 months, it's left a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth with Samsung. If it was free to repair and largely clear that it was due to a common issue (and not just personal misadventure) then I'd be fine with losing my phone for a week here and there to get it sorted, but to pay on top is in my opinion, for a global corporation, absolutely ludicrous. When the screen eventually cracks completely and causes issues, I'll have to just fork out for a used iPhone/alternative android and will ultimately never purchase a Samsung again. Genuine shame as I've never really had major issues before, but can't justify the risk anymore.

Not a fan of the folding screen...
20 December 2022

I bought this right at the beginning of the year (2022). I love Android and Samsung, but this folding screen design has some major flaws still (yes, even in this "newer" version).I love being able to fold my phone and have it actually fit in my pocket and not have to worry about it falling out, especially working at both a factory and a healthcare facility. I love that it has a cover screen that you can customize and control certain features through with it closed. The battery life is great. It takes clear, crisp pictures & videos. It has decent sound for music if only playing through phone speakers, but if you connect it to an outside source, you can use the Dolby Atmos sound booster, effects, equalizer, and quality setting to get it right where you want it! The set-up, software, and layout are pretty user friendly unless you make it how you want it through developer options and so on. It is also very VERY accessible in terms of disability or needing some extra assistance. Now, the screen... You would think a "flip/fold" phone would have a screen that doesn't become cracked over time (not even a year yet)... Well, mine is definitely showing the wear and tear of the folding motion through numerous cracks and bubbles across the "clear screen protector" it has already (which is kind of annoying you can't put your own on due to their protector). It is getting worse! I haven't been folding my phone as much as I would like to even though that's pretty much the whole point of this device. It just cracked and bubbled more this morning actually when I folded it to put it in my pocket to leave.Overall, it is a fantastic phone, but the cracking and bubbling screen really kills it's whole appeal and it's touch sensitivity over time.

Not good at all
28 September 2022

It's 4 months after I upgraded my old phone to this very bad Z Flip 3. 5 days ago it started making cracking noise when closing phone and screen began to crack/split along fold lines. It's is still under factory warranty contacted Samsung, I was told to bring to their authorized center to fix. In the center I was told that the screen protector has to be replaced. However, when I called to 7 Samsung centers in my locale I found that none of them capable to do screen protector replacement and only option to mail it to Samsung and stay 10 days without the phone. This is catch 22 situation. I also spent 7 hours during 2 days with Samsung without any success. I am over 20 years with AT&T and now it becomes big problem. I have insurance, but when I spoke with Asurion and they said that a lot of people reported same issue. I have to pay significant deductible for the phone replacement. Here is the picture - you got a bad phone for big price, that breaking every 4-5 months. While you have Samsung warranty, you can hope that they will give a replacement, but they did not give it to me. But what will happen after one year - you have 2 years remaining, potentially it will break every 4 months, and you have no choice but pay deductable again and again.I am AT&T customer since 2000 and I never saw anything like this in the past.

Ongoing issues

I was very excited about the sleek compact look of the phone. I was also impressed with its features. However, about a year in I noticed the screen protector was forming bubbles at the fold. Since it was still under warranty I contacted Samsung and EVENTUALLY got it replaced. That was a mission. I encountered the same issue within a few weeks of getting the first one replaced, therfore I just removed the screen protector, as it was hard to read through the bubbles..While this issue with the screen protector was happening I was also having an issue with my phone screen turning on and staying on, but this was an intermittent problem. While it was still under warranty I brought it back for that reason but of course it worked fine when I got there. It continued to work intermittently and now it's just a nightmare trying to turn on the screen. Even when the screen is unlocked it remains dark, therefore I'm not able to use the phone. I have to keep locking and unlocking until it finally turns on and when it does, it's only for a few seconds then it turns off again while I'm using the phone. It is so bad that I'll hear the phone ring but once I open the screen to answer, the screen goes black, therfore I'm not able to answer my calls. I usually have to return calls once I get the screen going. It is so frustrating. This is a software issue because I noticed that whenever they do an update, it fixes it temporarily and then in a matter of days, sometimes hours it starts acting up again. Once the screen actually comes on the phone works beautifully but the screen doesn't work properly and if i can't get the screen to turn on then the phone is no good to me. The battery also doesn't last for long and that was from day one. I know that if I contact Samsung they're gonna tell me that the phone is no longer under warranty and all that jazz, even though the issue started long before the warranty ended. The problem is I bought 2 of these phones and they are both having the same issues. I would not recommend this phone to anyone neither would I buy another one.

Pros And Cons
11 December 2022

I decided to get the Galaxy Z flip 3 just to see what it would be like to hold a flip phone again. In some areas, I was ecstatic over, but some areas brought me a huge disappointment.Let's start with the pros.*The ability to video chat hands free. You can watch videos, take pictures and video chat all hands free with just folding the phone to the desired angle.*Cover screen. The cover screen gave me more control over answering or not answering the phone when someone calls. The ability to open to answer and close to hang up brought back so many memories and I missed it. Also, closing the phone protected the screen.*watching movies on the phone was awesome! I experienced the clearest picture when watching, that I was smiling almost through the entire movie.Cons:*One of my biggest complaints with this phone is that with the folding screen, there's a visible crease. You can also feel it. But Samsung re-assured us that the screen is durable. I have found that there developed cracks in the screen and screen protector included with regular use of opening and closing the phone. I'm highly disappointed with that, although hindsight is 20/20. I was highly worried of the integrity of the screen's bevel and crease with opening and closing, and after about a year, that worry became a reality, as the crease developed cracks. All in all, this phone only has the novelty of folding, but it's just like any other Galaxy phone in all the rest of the areas. I liked it until the screen started cracking under folding too much. I hope there's a way to reduce that, but with the way it's designed, that won't be possible unless we do go back to the half screen of the nostalgic flip phones.

Really bad screen quality - Not fully invented yet
8 May 2023

As a long-time follower of Samsung, I am writing to you to express my disappointment with the quality of the screen on my Samsung flip 3 phone. I have been using Samsung phones for many years now and have always been satisfied with their quality and durability. However, my experience with my latest Samsung flip phone has been different. It would be greatly appreciated if Samsung could provide a solution to this issue, either through repairs or replacement of the screen. A phone that is that expensive (above $1,200 CAD) should have a better quality and if the foldable screen is not yet invented fully to last a decent period of time the phones shouldn't be out to the public.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope that Samsung can address this issue and maintain the high standards that I have come to expect from your products.
