Ample soundstage for rooms 200 - 500 sq. ft.

For animes such as Samurai Champloo, or Cowboy Bebop I do turn on the Bass Enhancement feature, but I don't use it for anything but. I still have to do some additional remodeling before I ideal placement for the subwoofer, but I'm really enjoying this soundbar; me, coming from a VIZIO Elevate this bar having one fewer driver (12 drivers on the bar), vs. Elevate's 13 drivers on the bar, and a ~4-5" shorter width this system does not lack in comparison. Samsung's use of Mid-Range & Woofer combo's vs. VIZIO's Tweeter-Woofer combo's really rounds out the soundstage, especially for dialogue, by comparison. Due to different drivers used, responsible for different frequency ranges, is why the bar is boomier out of the box, and lacks nuance in the higher frequency range (ambience [wind, birds, trees rustling], score [violins, flutes, etc]), which is why Treble & Bass should be adjusted to achieve a more accurate/neutral mix. One major caveat--for me--is that turning off the Mic on the soundbar triggers (since I have no need for Alexa, or SpaceFit feature) a bright, distracting, and mandatory red LED light that does not turn off. Extremely annoying for me, and I almost feel like this was intentional from Samsung to discourage owners of this system from turning off the Mic. I don't need gimmicky features when I can perform my own calibrations, and I don't appreciate this insistence on spying on your consumers for the sake of data harvesting. Samsung, please allow us to turn off the mic on the soundbar without the need for an unavoidable, distracting red LED light popping up. I'm sure this can be done via firmware update.

Before I tell you about the actual experience, which spoiler alert was tremendous, let me tell you the specs on this powerhouse. The B650 Soundbar featuring Dolby 5.1 and DTS Virtual:X technologies allows you to experience ultimate 3D sound from every direction. Complete your immersive home cinema setup with powerful sound from 3 channels and 7 speakers. The built-in center speak delivers enhanced dialogue so you won’t miss a word. Enjoy the Bluetooth Multi-Connection feature which allows the connection of two smart devices simultaneously. Game Mode optimizes your gaming experience with synced, directional audio. All that with bluetooth connectivity to seamlessly pair up to 2 devices at the same time!! I turned on the system and turned up the volume and I could not believe my ears, the sound was outrageously amazing. I'm a bit of an audio freak and this was from the best I've seen, I felt like I was by a live experience! I will encourage all my closest friends to purchase this Samsung soundbar, no matter the price this is the best you'll find! The subwoofer delivers the low and the bass freeing up the main speaker to deliver the punchy notes and surround sound like no other. I will probably go purchase one for my master suite and one for my parents home. I have had a few people reach out to me recently for advice on a sound bar for surround sound and I had to tell them that I had none that I could stand behind but now that all changes! Also as a side note the led readout is a Amish touch and the wireless capabilities were what really sent it over the top for me. I wish I could write more specifics but there is no more allowance for room, so next time Samsung has hit another one out of the park this time!

That isn't a big deal for me as I intend to use this as a home theater and not a smart speaker anyway, but for other people that may be a deal breaker. I tested the system out with “Gravity” and “Aquaman” and was immediately impressed with how immersive the Dolby Atmos was for a soundbar and two satellites. Surround sound is supposed to create a “dome” of audio around you to tell you about where the action is and immerse you in the ambiance of the scene you are watching. Boy, was I immersed! I forgot I was testing this system out and just watched both movies all the way through. I'm not sure how they did it, but I could tell where the action was coming from, the height and movement of special effects, and clear conversations. The only setting I changed in the system was to turn on SpaceFit to auto-calibrate the soundbar to my listening environment. I do have a decent-sized living room (15'x15') with sloped ceilings (up to 10'), and this system's performance actually exceeded my regular 7.1 receiver. I also tried out Game mode on the system to go with my next-gen console and was immediately impressed with it's ability to replicate sound effects and action from all directions. Now, for a few minor flaws with the system for me: 1. Documentation is sorely lacking, even if you download the manual from Samsung. This might be an issue with with non-techy people. 2. No HDMI 2.1 support if you want to plug a next-gen console directly into the soundbar and pass through 120hz. 3. Minimal smart speaker functionality but not really an issue unless that's the main purpose of this purchase for you. Other than that, I believe I will be replacing my 7.1 receiver with this spectacular soundbar in my living room instead. Thank you, Samsung, for exceeding my expectations!

Excellent Sound Quality

Overall, this soundbar is amazing, with just a few disappointments where the description of the product differed than the actual device. The sound is brilliant - very impressive to get this good of sound from a soundbar. It also has a great look and adequate inputs. The subwoofer is impressive for the size and I love that it is wireless which simplifies the setup process since you can put it anywhere in the room, especially since it’s not too big, but still offers impressive bass for the size. I am using this in a nonconventional way as I have it as part of my “outdoor living room” and am using it more often for music than anything else. I am using this in a nonconventional way as I have it as part of my “outdoor living room” and am using it more often for music than anything else. The sound is very immersive to be coming from only the soundbar and I think most people would find it to be suitable for a theater-like experience even though it doesn’t have rear speakers. The offered sound modes are more than enough to please anyone’s taste and I was amazed at how loud this thing can get. The remote control is fairly simple and easy to use which I appreciate. By connecting the soundbar to the SmartThings app, you can also control many functions inside the app which is cool. Airplay and Chromecast music streaming work great, whether you’re using the soundbar alone or including the soundbar inside of a speaker group for either service. However, my biggest disappointment with the soundbar and the reason why I didn’t give it the highest marks is the lack of use as an Alexa Device. All the advertising on the description page for the soundbar says that it “Works with Alexa” and can be used to execute Alexa commands which lead me to believe it had an active mic to listen for and run Alexa commands and requests just like an Echo device. However, this Soundbar does NOT have that ability at all. This was one of the biggest determining factors for me to buy this Soundbar since in my use case I use it mainly for music and wanted to be able to have it replace the echo device I have in my “outdoor living room” as well as to be able to be included as part of an Alexa/Echo speaker group for playing music - this soundbar can do neither. This was a huge disappointment for me and something anyone considering this soundbar should know. If this is not a feature you care about, then the soundbar definitely excels in every other way!

Fantastic sound tailored to my weird space
25 September 2022

I don't have an ideal space setup, but with this sounder, it didn't seem to matter. I've got a basement bedroom with vaulted ceilings. While my previous sound system was "okay", there was always a reverberation of sound due to the odd shape of the room and ceiling, not to mention that my TV is wall mounted between a hallway door and an egress window in a corner. It really presents a unique sound dynamic challenge. (my photo of the tv in the room is cropped to hide my messy room) The Samsung Q910B Soundbar with rear satellite speakers and subwoofer was easy to setup, even though it did not come with instructions (I had to look it up online). (my photo of the tv in the room is cropped to hide my messy room) The Samsung Q910B Soundbar with rear satellite speakers and subwoofer was easy to setup, even though it did not come with instructions (I had to look it up online). I had it hooked up to my television and my SmartThings account in a snap. I was skeptical of its "supposed" ability to feel out the space and adjust the sound accordingly, but to my amazement, it blew me away. I was shocked at the depth of sound, the loss of the reverberation my previous setup had, and the clarity of sound without having to turn up the volume to a deafening level. Subtle conversations came forward, sounds are robust, and all from a setup that visually appears to be half the scale of my old setup. I found using the SmartThings app was easier to get into finer controls, rather than trying via the remote. I probably will figure it out via the control eventually, but for quick tweaks now, the app was much easier. While I was only able to find limited Dolby Atmos content, I could definitely hear an improvement for content that could take advantage of the capability. There is a better boost and clarity of subtle conversations, and a sweeping sound of dynamic scenes. I watched "Gravity", and I was kinda freaked out when the voices felt like they were swirling around me in the space. Just stunning to hear (as well as a bit surprising and jarring at first - it was unexpected but highly enjoyed). I really look forward to getting access to more Dolby Atmos content, and becoming more fully immersed in my entertainment (and no longer in the awkwardness of my space). Thank you Samsung!

Fantastic!

I've had this soundbar for a couple of weeks now and must say that I am very impressed with the overall sound. My initial budget was £500 but after reading into up-firing speaker systems I knew I had to get one! I wasn't so keen on last years design with the cloth material finish and the screen being on top of the device so decided to wait for this one and I am so glad that I did, it looks great and the sound is outstanding, I've had to make a few tweaks to the settings for my own liking and although I'm not quite there yet the results are stunning, I've tested this with Ghostbusters Afterlife and Stranger Things Season 4 to name a few, quiet scenes when someone is walking or riding a bike down an empty road really makes it sound like you're actually there with them ... MoreI've had this soundbar for a couple of weeks now and must say that I am very impressed with the overall sound. The virtual surround sound also does a decent job and on a few occasions I've heard the sound come from behind me, also the side firing speakers do an excellent job as when a doorbell rang on one scene I actually looked over to the side of the room from where the sound came from! The sub has a massive punch on scenes where there are explosions and destruction the only minor issue is sometimes on scenes where there is music playing the bass doesn't sound as deep as I would expect, that may just be to do with how I have it set up (Still tweaking the settings) or maybe its the way its been mixed into the show or movie. I have tested the same music through YouTube and it sounds great as you would expect. I have turned up the channel on the up-firing speakers which sounded fantastic during rainy scenes in The Batman and along with the side firing speakers it sounds like its coming from all around you. The good thing is if I feel the need for an even more immense experience I can purchase the rear speaker set in the future. I was a bit hesitant at spending £800 on this system but as soon as I put on a movie I forgot all about it! Every time I'm watching something I cant help but smile at how good this thing sounds. I find that turning on virtual surround sound and using the adaptive settings gives the best overall performance. Highly recommended.

Final Vote still out as Documentation is horrible.
26 December 2022

At the beginning of December, I purchased a Samsung HW-B650 Soundbar, a Samsung SWA-9200S Wireless Rear Speaker Kit and a Samsung QN85QN85BAFXZA Smart TV. I am still tweaking the system (sound) and find the documentation poorly lacking – if it is not incomplete, it is confusing! Additionally, I have a Spectrum supplied Arris DCX3600-M DVR/Cablebox connected to HDMI port 1 on my Smart TV. I am a retired IT professional and am using both a hardwired Ethernet Cable to my TV as well as having enabled a WiFi 5.0 connection to the same router. In addition to researching the Internet, I have read all 80 reviews here that were available at the time. I am a retired IT professional and am using both a hardwired Ethernet Cable to my TV as well as having enabled a WiFi 5.0 connection to the same router. In addition to researching the Internet, I have read all 80 reviews here that were available at the time. The response to RichT’s comment regarding his “audio-sync issue” from the Samsung Brand Ambassador suggesting he utilize the “Pass-Through” feature, I found very helpful as I had the same issue and it is that response that encourages me to submit this detailed review. When reading all the reviews, I found other bits-and-pieces helpful, while others I found confusing. First, why are reviews regarding HW-B450 and HW-B550 Soundbars included here – because HW-B650 may demonstrate similar issues - to show improvement in the product line? Clarification addressing this would be helpful. Secondly, since a link to a digital version of the Full Owner’s Manual was given, why not add a “Notes Section” to the end of it and continually update it with an organized and edited synopsis of many of the threads that run though the responses to the reviews stated here to help ease the burden of doing haphazard, tedious and questionable research elsewhere? Thirdly, now points regarding the HW-B650 specifically to address and clarify: - Although “Pass-Through” seems to resolve my Audio-Sync issue, am I losing functionality that I may find more beneficial than having my lip-sync issues resolved? If so, what are they? - What specification is the 650’s ARC port – is it true HDMI 2.1 or more specifically eARC as is my TV? - Would I benefit from buying a new HDMI-eARC high speed / high bandwidth cable with Ethernet as I have found suggested elsewhere? - Is there any benefit to using both an HDMI-ARC and an Optical Cable simultaneously? * The sound from my 650 periodically/intermittently cuts out causing me to miss dialogue? * Often when switching from/to a cable show on my DVR to/from a show from a streaming service such as Netflix (whatever) the 650 makes a loud popping / cracking / staticy noise? Should I connect my Sony BluRay player to the HDMI port on my Smart TV or Soundbar? - If I do go through the time and exercise of setting my Sound Mode to “Standard” and manually adjusting my Sound Control for: * Night Mode * Voice Enhancement Are these settings kept or ignored/superseded when switching to another Sound Mode such as “Adaptive” or “DTS VIRTUAL:X”? * Similar question to what happens to configuring the "Equalizer"? - Is the same also true if I set the CH/Level or Tone Control and manually adjust each of “Speaker Volume” and/or the “Treble” and “Bass Volume Levels”? - How does setting the Bass (an/or Treble) volume levels affect each other when using: * Sound Mode “Base Boost” * Tone Control “Base (Treble) Volume” Up/Down * “Woofer Button” on the Remote? I like “Surround Sound” and “DTS VIRTUAL:X” but have some hearing issues and don’t want to lose dialogue to overpowering background sound. It would be nice to have some dialogue come out of my Rear Speakers which are now positioned closer to where I sit than is the Soundbar. If my manual selections are overruled/overwritten/superseded by particular Sound Modes, it would seem that this issue could be resolved by a Firmware Update. Sufficient detail on how these different settings interact is missing and sorely needed, and any clarification, answers, help and/or guidance would be greatly appreciate not only by me, but I am sure by others reading this post and Samsung's responses - THANKS!

New and Improved Samsung Soundbar!

The Samsung Q990B Sound bar This new 11.1.4ch Samsung sound bar has set the bar pretty high for any future theater-like quality sound! First, the setup was very straight forward and easy to follow. The rear speakers do all the work for you in automatically connecting to the system, the out of the box sound is already impressive and immersive. Once you follow the steps for the room space calibration it just takes the experience to a whole other enhanced level. Style - the look and style of the sound bar is just as sleek and modern as you'd come to expect from other Samsung electronics. The sound bar is seamless under any TV or console and although the rear speakers a little larger than expected they're still small enough to blend with the rest of your décor. The changes from last year's model to this one are really emphasized here, where as the screen used to be on top of the soundbar it is now in front and it makes all the better difference for it! The entire soundbar is also now metal all around, which makes cleaning and dusting a breeze! Performance - the performance of this sound bar is in a level all its own when compared with any other high-end sound bar of equal caliber. We upgraded from am older similarly priced sound bar with which we were very happy, and this Samsung version blew it completely out the water. The 3D audio and DTS:X sound lets you enjoy everything from music, action movies and gaming at an almost professional level. The lows and highs are crisp and well defined, dialogues are not muffled and the sound from the rear speakers is just enough to give you the full immersive movie experience. And lastly, the compatibility is just as easy to manage as the setup! Having multiple Samsung TVs and appliances made adding the Q990B to the Samsung Hub a breeze. Tap To Connect also made connecting our smart, wireless devices super easy without any lag in switching between different platforms. All in all, I would have to give this one a 10/10 in all things performance, ease of use and design!

Samsung Q930b - Great Soundbar
18 December 2022

Purchased from Richer Sounds in Leeds about two weeks ago. After reading reviews and watching YouTube videos, it sounded like the right purchase for my budget. Chris the store manager was knowledgeable about the product as I had a few questions before I placed the order. He was excellent throughout the process and also managed to price beat the soundbar twice after noticing different retailers were offering it at a lower cost allowing me to get a really great deal on the soundbar. Great experience as always from Richer Sounds and would definitely recommend them for all your A/V needs. The soundbar didn't come with a HDMI cable in the box so had to purchase one separately. I plugged the soundbar into my Sony TV, and it seemed fairly easy to setup. I couldn't find any details on calibrating the soundbar to my room and I'm unsure if it auto calibrated as part of the initial setup. Having not owned a soundbar before, I have no comparison point, but the difference from the TV speakers was vast. The dialogue was so much clearer and you could definitely hear the bass, side speakers and the rear speakers kicking in. As I have a Sony TV, I am unable to test the Samsung Q-Symphony feature. It's very fiddly trying to adjust the speakers using the soundbar remote control so I downloaded the Samsung Smart Things app. Very straightforward to connect and configure and it's so much easier to adjust the audio channels though the app. The app does not help with the calibration unfortunately. Still trying to get to grips with the soundbar and finding suitable content to test it out properly (especially something that will test the upfiring channels), but am very satisfied with it so far. Marked down to 4 stars because I thought Samsung would have included a HDMI cable with their premium soundbars. Also, because of the poor information on calibrating the device to the room. It's still a great soundbar and I would recommend it.

Worth the price of admission!

I upgraded to the HW-Q990b from the HW-Q850T, and it was a massive upgrade in audio fidelity. I ran the Q850T for approx 3 years with a 2020 QN75 Samsung TV for the QSymphony and "Dolby Atmos" compatability. Unfortunately, the Atmos effect was quite underwhelming, and I just didn't hear any upward firing drivers for overhead sound. I read several different reviews that convinced me to upgrade to the Q990b series a few weeks ago, and am quite happy I did. Dialogue is more crisp, and the Dolby Atmos effect is now very noticeable. One can adjust the individual levels of the upward, side, and wide firing drivers on the main bar and the rear satellites. One can adjust the individual levels of the upward, side, and wide firing drivers on the main bar and the rear satellites. The rear speakers are now individually powered, and they make their presence known. Unfortunately, the power cables are short and need a nearby outlet if you dont want to run an extension cord. The complete manual is not included though, and must be downloaded. It suggests placing the subwoofer along the same wall as the soundbar, which actually solved my previous problem of the rear speakers losing connectivity at times. I used to have the subwoofer placed in the corner on the opposite wall when I ran the Q850t. Another TV in a nearby room seemed to affect the rear connectivity whenever it was on, as random disconnects became annoyingly frequent when the tv was on. The issue seemed to resolve when the tv was off. I was very annoyed when the Q990b experienced the same issue, until I relocated the subwoofer to the same wall as the soundbar, and incidentally farther away from the other tv. The disconnects stopped, and everything now works as it should. The Q990B is now matched with a 2023 QN75, and it is quite the cinematic experience at home. We have noticed several subtle audio effects we've never heard before, in films we've seen many times.
