I've been searching for a curved 32-inch gaming monitor for quite some time now, and until recently, most options were priced out of my range. In particular, the Samsung Odyssey G7 seemed like my ideal holy grail monitor, but at holy grail pricing. So when Samsung released a pared-down version of this in the G5 recently, I took notice.Setup was easy. My Nvidia drivers recognized the monitor's capabilities right out of the box, setting the correct resolution and refresh rate and automatically enabling Freesync. The on-screen controls are very easy to use, and it has some helpful features like crosshair overlays that I probably won't be taking advantage of...but they're nice to have. Finally, the elephant in the room: the curve. I personally like it quite a bit, but I come from a similarly sized, less aggressively curved monitor, so I adjusted quickly. If you're coming from a flat panel, you may have issues with it. After a while, I think most will come to appreciate the edges of the monitor being brought to the same distance from their eyes as the center in a monitor of this size. At the same time, I can understand it's a dealbreaker for some.

The ultrawide 34” had well documented flickering issues, none of which were able to be solved due to non-existent firmware updates. My original monitor also came with a pixel smudge/dead pixels. Thankfully, Samsung’s warranty process worked fairly seamlessly and they were able to replace the screen/monitor under warranty. The replacement monitor was perfectly fine, no dead pixels and no flickering. The older monitor and new one did have two different sized/wattage power bricks, a bit odd considering they were the same model. I love Samsung products so this doesn’t deter me from purchasing more TV’s and monitors from them in the future. But I’m certainly opting for OLED, even a smaller one if I want a monitor that isn’t ultrawide. Hope they come out with a 4K/5K ... MoreThe ultrawide 34” had well documented flickering issues, none of which were able to be solved due to non-existent firmware updates. Hope they come out with a 4K/5K ultrawide in the future, paying so much for an ultrawide 1440p just isn’t worth it these days, I’d rather get the 40” 4K IPS from LG for the same price range.

I have three of these that match up with very little bazzle disruption. Setup with Nvidia's surround' physX gives me an awesome 7680x1440 viewing area for my games.Every time someone comes over for the first time their jaw hits the floor. Living within proximity to NASA I'm always told "you can run the space station from here", my reply is always the same, "I doubt that but maybe a small satellite. "Paired with my custom rig, these monitors will make anyone just as satisfied as I have been.Thank you Samsung for another quality product...

I purchased this monitor when it first came out, and within a week of using it, the screen would constantly flicker. Send it in for repair, months later my replacement arrived. No issues with the replacement/repaired model until 11 months later, the flickering is back. It is only present when using displayport and 165hz, tested with multiple cables/video cards. HDMI is fine, its a shame really that I can't get the full performance out of the monitor. However, it is a beautiful display, the curve is fantastic and I wouldn't go back to a normal monitor, ultrawide curved for life.
Buyer beware, not a cheap monitor and if the button on the bottom of this monitor that gives you access to the menu system for changing input sources falls off, as mine did, you will be told by Samsung that it is cosmetic and not covered. As a result, the monitor is useless if you need to switch between sources or access any features of the menu.Per the warranty: "The Samsung limited warranty covers **manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship encountered in the intended use of the product** and shall not cover cosmetic damage including scratches, cracks, dents, chips, and other damage **to the product’s finishes** that may result from normal usage."This clearly states that damage to the products finishes is not covered but this is not a part of the ... MoreBuyer beware, not a cheap monitor and if the button on the bottom of this monitor that gives you access to the menu system for changing input sources falls off, as mine did, you will be told by Samsung that it is cosmetic and not covered. They went as far as to suggest that I had misused the button and caused the damage while I was changing the input source, which is an "intended use of the product!"
Unacceptable amount of ghosting on a 1ms 165hz display. It's the most horrid amount of motion blur natively built into the monitor while I game, no amount of setting tweaking can fix it. despite the manufacturers/nvidias claims... gsync as a post monitor release compatibility update does NOT work. It causes the entire monitor to flicker while in game, almost seizure inducing. I have a rtx 3080 that can easily drive games at 165fps to match the refresh rate and even then, the ghosting, flickering, and input delay is bad.in addition, my speakers stopped working after like the second month and have never functioned since.Backlight issues are progressively getting weirder and worse as time goes on.Stay away from samsung monitors, absolutely awful. will never make ... MoreUnacceptable amount of ghosting on a 1ms 165hz display. I have had many different monitors over the years for gaming, work, and just floating the net. I am extremely happy with the G5 monitor in terms of build quality, screen brightness, HDR and refresh rate. I have not experienced any of the anomalies that a few others have had, and going into the 7th month of hard use, I don't expect anything to cause me any grief or regrets. This is the 4th Samsung monitor after using Dell, and Viewsonic for many years, I am really going to stay with Samsung. Almost every time I replace a monitor, I will donate the used one to charity.
I would give this monitor 2.5 but you can only do whole numbers so i went a bit higher. Overall, it was extremely easy to unbox and get going. Ive seen a lot of people complain about the stand itself, but i didnt find it that difficult to use. Would it be nice if you could adjust it more? Absolutely. Outside of that, my biggest issue with itwss the settings within the monitor for adjusting colors, etc. I tried SO many different combinations to try and get it to look right, but i just couldn't. It was either too dark, too bright, too blue etc, nothing seemed to work forme. This was my first UW monitor, so maybe it was just me, i dont know, but either way i had to return it, because i just couldnt play games on it. I would suggest that if youve never used an ultra wide display before, maybe go to the store and try it out first. It takes some getting used to. But overall, that was less of an issue than the color issues i was having. So for now, for me, its back to a flat panel 16:9. Maybe in the future i will try again.
Bought this for its curvature (1000R). It's not used for playing fast motion games but for work, so I can't speak for that. The scrolling text (spreadsheet, browsers) are visibly smoother than a 60Hz monitor. Text are also sharp and color is good.I used a wall mount for the monitor, as I wanted to have clearance under not taking up by the included stand.Ran into an issue of monitor couldn't power / resume after going into sleep (removed laptop). Took many tries over couple of hours, but end it up able to get display showing after unplugging for more than couple of minutes and click the "joystick" twice. Manual said only click once.
I bought this monitor because it gave me the ability to break away from my 32 inch monitors and move into a monitor that gave a different view. With it being on sale, that gave me more of a reason to buy it. Picture is great and the curved feature makes it even more attractive! The only drawback is no onboard speakers, cannot update the firmware wirelessly, and only 1 HDMI and 1 Display port where my 32 inch monitors offer 2 HDMI and 1 Display port. I know gaming monitors are mostly made for headphone connections, but what if I wanted the gaming experience and use it for something else rather than gaming or I want my gaming play to be where I can hear it without the headphones? I would have to buy external speakers and audio jack adapter.
