Amazing picture and TV features

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had this TV for a few weeks now. Absolutely awesome! Picture quality for free to air TV is anywhere from pretty good to excellent but most TV's will be (someone told me a while back that free to air technology in Australia is way behind TV technology, so you can get a 4k or 8k TV but the free to air stations won't really be that much better than just a full HD TV). Anything we watch that is UHD is amazing. Sound quality is reasonably good but could be a lot better (I assumed this before purchase anyway as a soundbar or sound system connected will give a much better sound experience). I absolutely love the remote! I was a bit sceptical at first with the minimal buttons, but I love it. It's got buttons for things like Netflix, Prime Video, and Web browser so it's only 1 click and you're in!! No more batteries - yes!! Remote uses indoor lighting and it's been fine for us so far - no problems (there is a usb at the end if you need to connect to a power point for charge). One of the best features is the fact that when I record a show/movie from free to air I can set the start time and end time, or I can record the shows timeslot and edit the start time or end time for up to 10 mins (1 min increments). Other TV's I've had just record the timeslot and if the show/movie finishes late then it's bad luck for you. Love pretty much everything about this TV - highly recommend. I can even see the discrepancies/imperfections on people's skin when there's a close-up!!

A lot of reviews focus on stats and benchmarking, but for me I’m more interested in the useability. I think Samsung could work on their menus more. The remote and the UI aren’t really sympathetic to each other. One is always clicking to the far left side to get to settings and sources, it’s not really optimal. But if u have a regular old Samsung remote then u can get around this with direct access to most features. Smart Things is useful too, so you can set up one tap shortcuts. You can switch to ambient mode visuals also if u want. All in all as a TV I love it, I just think the menu needs work and Samsung should move away from putting Ads in the main UI - as I feel this is half the reason the menu screen is jeopardised. Some customisation would be great there. Outside of that I’m very happy, great picture quality, great physical design, lots of great features.

Fantastic for Varied Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I feel like there’s a problem with the current options we as consumers have when it comes to buying TVs. Ideally we’d want the high per pixel contrast of OLED panels, but with the brightness and longevity of LED TVs. Right now, we have to choose between that, but steps are being made in the right direction to get the best of both worlds and this is where Samsung’s Neo QLED line of TVs come in. While Micro-LED displays are still way too expensive for your average consumer, Mini-LED TVs, such as my QN85A, act as a great intermediate for the time being and this really shows in the picture quality. While Micro-LED displays are still way too expensive for your average consumer, Mini-LED TVs, such as my QN85A, act as a great intermediate for the time being and this really shows in the picture quality. Personally, I use this TV for a range of different media consumption like gaming on consoles, watching movies and even for possibly the most difficult use case, as a 4K 120hz primary computer monitor. I’ve had no issues so far in calibrating the TV for all of this and it honestly looks stunning; I’ve enjoyed the vibrate scenes of Cyberpunk 2077, the inky blacks of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the clarity and uniformity it brings to my programs as a 3D artist. As a bonus, I suspect this TV will last longer than traditional LED TVs as there are more backlights and they aren’t being turned on as frequently due to its smaller local dimming zones. This tackles a problem where backlights slowly turn turn blue with excessive use, keeping your TV more vibrant for longer. Overall, this is the best TV I’ve had and I think anyone could be satisfied with it. I hope that we can see further shrinking of backlights toward Micro-LED TVs and if so, I’d be very excited to see what Samsung has to show going forward.

This 55 inch was purchased to replace a 7 year old LG 48 inch 3D that although still functional, had dirty screen syndrome, no 4K, out of date Apps and no longer supported firmware updates from LG. I had spent many hours reading reviews on TVs, had narrowed down choices, only to back out on a purchase for various reasons, this I did time and time again for months, 3D replacement was no longer an option due to lack of availability, so heaps of 3D films and a 3D Bluray player now in retirement. Then the QN85A and QN90A started to feature in my searches, against similar models. I didn’t want to go huge screen, it wouldn’t suit the room, or furniture, 55 inch was ideal. I have a Samsung sound bar which needed to sit without blocking any of the screen. I needed a centre foot, as due to the room it’s in, it’s on a slight angle, TVs with feet at either end of the TV were not going to work well with feet overhanging furniture. This brings me to the viewing angle, the QN85’s panel has an IPS (or similar) not a VA panel as on QN95. I needed good viewing angles due to the shape of the room, OLED was another option, but screen burn was a put off. I had been into stores and looked at TV’s making a note of the available options and listening to what the Salesperson wanted to sell, but always left the store still undecided. So there I was in lockdown, unable to browse in stores and only able to purchase Click and Collect, so that’s what I did, I read the buyers and expert reviews of the QN85A and trusted their judgment and have to say I’m not disappointed. For me the QN85 ticks all the boxes, I don’t need to mention all the plus points noted in other buyers reviews, read the reviews, this is a great TV.

I have the 85ā€ QN85A with the VA panel and 1300 dimming zones. At this size it is less than half the price of an equivalent oled but offers very similar performance. Pros: Very bright and great HDR despite no Dolby vision. Very good viewing angles. Great in a dark room with very good black levels. Supports a lot of 3rd party Apps. Very good game mode with VRR and 2.1 HDMI. Interface loads quickly. Good motion control, colors and upscaling. Cons: any artificial light bulbs in front of the tv creates rainbow lines across the tv. Let down by Computing Fail and Smart Remote

My experience with QLED Q85 Neo TV has been disappointing. The TV's operating system has frozen more than 5 times in 3 months, since purchase, requiring complete removal of power and reboot to regain control. A Factory Reset, then a remote access link with Samsung, failed to stop the problem re-occurring. Hoping the latest service call reset, by a local authorised repairer, will fix the problem. I found the ā€˜Smart Remote’, which has no number buttons, to be cumbersome for watching TV, especially if you want to channel surf. The remote might be good if you use the TV for playing games or surfing the net but I don’t. I just wanted a quality product to watch TV. Picture is good and its only redeeming feature at present. News, documentaries or sitcoms don't really need a full sound system. The only option is to insert/remove the external audio cable as required.

After 8 yrs ownership of a Samsung 47" LED TV it was time to upgrade in size and technology. Reading the reviews and seeing a demo in the shop I decided on the Samsung 55" QN85A. Unboxing was easy, installation of the stand a breeze, and soon I was ready to start the TV. First word of advice to Samsung - ensure that the instructions for pairing of the remote to the TV is mentioned in the Short Setup Guide rather than the more obscure directive printed on the plastic bag containing the remote. This would have saved me some minutes of figuring out how to get the remote to work. Once past that little hurdle, installation was fast and straightforward including the setup of a Samsung account. This would have saved me some minutes of figuring out how to get the remote to work. Once past that little hurdle, installation was fast and straightforward including the setup of a Samsung account. I was soon viewing content from my TV-box connected via HDMI through a home cinema system. The images on the screen were all that I imagined they would be: vibrant colours, high light, and sharp and rich detail. Even the level of black was deeper than I would have imagined, providing a satisfying level of contrast. The quality of the pictures varied somewhat depending on the age and quality of the source material on any given TV channel, but on the whole a pleasurable flick up and down through the channels. A review of the TV settings, now using the paired remote, was easy and intuitive. I did find it useful to change the colour profile from Native to Auto, where I perceived the Native setting to cause an over-saturation of colours in some cases. I then tried a Blu-Ray film of Lord of the Rings, which brought to life the Shire and a feeling that Bag End was an extension of my living room, and Bilbo and Gandalf inviting me to afternoon tea. Experiences so far were through external media sources. The TV itself comes with many services such as Netflix, Spotify, Amazon, Disney, HBO, Apple TV and much more. Additionally, a bunch of channels provided for free from Samsung. Since these services came through the TV itself then the sound came from the TV's own loudspeaker system. This rather than from the 5+1 sound system used for testing my other peripherals. Therefore I make no review of the TV's internal sound nor made any attempt to test it. So how would I summarise my experience so far? Intuitive, vibrant, sharp, and lively. Packed with services and features for modern media viewing.

Very Disappointed faulty TV

Bought this tv (QN85A) after research based on the many positive reviews, both user and professional. Had it delivered on 30th Dec , once switched on noticed both a horizontal and vertical line of missing pixels. Tried different signal sources still the same. Immediately contacted John Lewis tech support whom requested pictures of the screen and agreed the tv was faulty and required replacement. Only now stock at zero with no replenishment date available. Offered a full refund which I have taken. Arranged re collection date, but on day 2 prior to pick up, the tv started to switch itself off and on continuously, without user intervention. Many hours wasted and also missed out financially, as the dates for the Samsung cashback scheme had ended. So no tv and now feeling totally unimpressed with the manufacturer. Honestly cannot rate the items below correctly as only had the tv for a matter of hours, hence score.

Worse Back light bleeding
25 July 2022

The fact that I paid this much for a TV and yet receive a terrible service in return. Turns out my TV has a really bad backlight bleeding from 3 edges. It's so bad that the middle of the screen is this amazing Neo QLED and deep blacks but the edges are greyed out. It makes the whole experience worse. I contacted support and they ask me to run a test which was a bright photo. Anyone who knows anything about tv knows that backlight bleeding is an issue of dark scenes not bright photos. Upon explaining to Samsung how the TV works, they agreed to get it repaired but unfortunately, the chat got disconnected and when I reconnected to the new agent, he simply said it's not a fault and they can't do anything about it.
