Compatible with all Sony E-Mount Mirrorless cameras, including full frame Glass is ultra multi-coated (UMC) and Lens is constructed of 7 elements in 7 groups Minimum focusing distance of 9.5 inches and has a filter size of 49mm The Samyang AF 24mm F2.8 compact lens is the newest addition to Samyang's series of highly popular full frame auto focus lenses for Sony E mount cameras. This 24mm offers outstanding image quality, a wider view than the Samyang 35mm F2.8, and a fast and quiet auto focus system. The new Samyang 24mm F2.8 lens is designed specifically for Sony full frame mirrorless cameras with a focus on three main features: optical quality, portability, and silent autofocus. Thanks to advanced manufacturing techniques, Samyang now offers a wider angle view without sacrificing quality or performance. Optically, the lens is made up of 7 elements in 7 groups. Its construction has been optimally arranged for portability and to deliver high resolution from the center to the corners of the image. 3 aspherical/2 high refractive Index elements and Samyang's Ultra multi-coating techniques are utilized to minimize chromatic aberrations and unnecessary light dispersion. Quiet, fast and accurate auto focusing make this lens perfect for stealthy street shooting. Its weight of just about 3.3oz and its inconspicuous size make it ideal for travel. A minimum focusing distance of 9.5” and a substantial wide angle of view will make this Samyang full frame lens the go to lens for astrophotography and landscape photography. For the Sony Alpha a6000/a5000 series or other Sony APS-C cameras, the lens is equivalent to approximately 36mm, providing the same features with a more moderate wide angle of view.

I also own the Canon 24mm 1.4L II, so that is my point of reference. First, I like the price of this Sony, especially relative to other Sony GM lenses. It costs about what the Canon goes for used. Its roughly the same size as the Canon, but about 23 the weight. It looks large on the Sony A7 III compared to my 55mm 1.8 or 35mm 2.8, but feels balanced. I had originally planned to use my Canon primes 24 1.4, 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.2, 135 2 with a Metabones M4 adapter. However, the AF performance was disappointingly unacceptable, so I set off to buy Sony equivalents and this 24mm was the latest. Rumor has it that Sony will be coming out with a 135mm 1.8 soon and I will probably get that one as well whenif it does. The Sigma is too huge and the Batis is too expensive and only opens to 2.8, so Im waiting on the Sony.Heres my take on the 24mm GM Overall, very good. Its sharp, produces good color, and has minimal distortion. It focuses fast and accurately with my A7III, however, the eye focus is not as effective at any kind of distance due to the wide focal length. It works great in close. The aperture ring is nice for video, however, it doesnt lock into the A position, so Ive accidentally moved it while changing lenses during a shoot. The button to hold focus that this and other GM lenses have is not needed since I use back button focus and can just let go of the button to hold focus. The only other negative is the wicked artifacts the lens produces while shooting into the sun. I dont mind a little flare, but these look more like someone sneezed on my lens not pretty. Check out the purple fringing on the shoulder of the male adult in what is, otherwise, a very nice shot with this lens.No lens is perfect. This one doesnt even come close, but I do like the results its giving me on my Sony A7III. It produces fun shots that have inspired me to include a few of these in my shoots.

Sonys lenses are of usual high quality. This one pushes above that high standard. It is easy to use and durable, so you dont worry about it too much yet I recommend get the insurance, this is still over a 1000 equipment. It is weather sealed too.Only side notes I can make are that for astrophotography this lens literarily shines. I was in a light polluted area, with rain, and the Autofocus still locked with precision at f1.4 at stars, like magic...And the Extra customizable button to side is only programmable in newer Sony Cameras, and mostly Full Frame. Certainly not in Sony a6000.And by the way, get this lens regardless of using a Crop Sensor or Full Frame, price bites, but when you are having fun with wide angles and landscapes, or low depth of field close ups, you will grin.

The lens fits the alpha body so perfectly. Out of the ten lenses I have used a lot with the alpha cameras, the 24gm feels the best balanced, both in weight and size. Its very comfortable to walk around and handhold the camera for hours and take handheld shots. The build features are great the aperture ring makes it easy to go from a razor thin depth of field to deep landscape, while the focus button takes full advantage of the blazing focus speed of the alpha cameras, and the manual focus ring is a smooth focusbywire system. Ive got a smokey Hoya variable ND filter I pop on front that combo brings such character to the images...reminiscent of the Zeiss 55. Its truly impressive how fine the detail is up close and from far away all the way across the frame. Still learning how to do portraits. The lens has built in image correction, so there isnt as much barrel distortionbulby face for close up portraits, but its still there. A bit of distance with a nice background works well and the f1.4 creates 3D pop. Architecture photography is a blast thanks to the details and vivid colors. Im also LOVING how well it captures film in 4K. So far Ive been less than impressed with the a9s ability to capture 4K, always seems choppy and laggy. But in a tough, lowlight situation a coinop shooting gallery in Old Town Sacramento the 4K video was smooth, bright, and vivid...watching it on a big screen put me right back in the moment. And thats what photography is all about...clarity of the moment. This lens does just that. Check out the comparison photo of a landscape with a rising sun. Even the Gods know how special the 24gm is they opened up the clouds once the lens appeared. The comparison is the 24205G77mm, the Zeiss 55, and the 24gm. Love each for their own abilities it seems the 24 is a blend of the strengths of the other two clarity of the 24105G with the character of the 55. Buy the lens.

if you arent aware by this point Sony has been behind some of the smartest advertising campaigns across youtube. look up any reviews of this lens and search results will be plagued y you tubers being flown to san Fransisco to preview the lens and same people reviewing this lens after a couple weeks of use for their own youth channel.how does this lens perform is it worth the hype I think to some degree it is. with this package you are getting a 24mm lens that shows minimal distortion, goes down to 1.4 and produces very nice out of focus areas. the resolution is very very good even looking at images on a 5k display and seeing the results you get from a7Riii model is amazing.where this lens falls short is wild quality. look at other reviews there are plenty of people ... Moreif you arent aware by this point Sony has been behind some of the smartest advertising campaigns across youtube. look up any reviews of this lens and search results will be plagued y you tubers being flown to san Fransisco to preview the lens and same people reviewing this lens after a couple weeks of use for their own youth channel.how does this lens perform is it worth the hype I think to some degree it is. with this package you are getting a 24mm lens that shows minimal distortion, goes down to 1.4 and produces very nice out of focus areas. the resolution is very very good even looking at images on a 5k display and seeing the results you get from a7Riii model is amazing.where this lens falls short is wild quality. look at other reviews there are plenty of people complaining about appetite noises this lens producing. I have also noticed focus breathing when this lens is placed on auto focus during video modes.. not that you should e using manual focus anyways.lastly I think my biggest complaint is that the zoom ring feels really bad. Ive had two copies... both from BH the first had a zoom ring that barely had any tactile feel when turning horizontally.. and when the ring was pushed vertically it made some odd clicking noises. the replacement has a much better horizontal zoom action but still exhibits vertical play.in the end is this worth the asking price it depends. you really have to ask yourself what you want this for. astro are you a paid professional dont get caught up in all the Sony hype you see online.. the best gear is what you have. and I bet if you grabbed a kit lens and compared it to this lens on instagram not a lot of people would be able to see much difference

So I recently brought a used but mint copy of the 1635mm f2.8 GM and it is a pretty awesome lens, I normally dont shot past 24mm, 20mm on a good day. The main reason why I picked up this 1635mm GM is because I got it for under 1500 in LN condition.I wanted the 24mm GM and I was one of the ones who preordered as soon as it was eligible for preorder, but my patience got the best of me and cancelled my order two weeks in and it was one of my best decisions. Fast forward to 3 days ago. I was surfing on BH in the used department, because I am that barginguy, and long and behold a used 24mm GM f1.4 for only a grand, yes a grand, with boxes, bag, hood, paper work and plastics. So when I received the item today I was very nervous to open it because I didnt know the ... MoreSo I recently brought a used but mint copy of the 1635mm f2.8 GM and it is a pretty awesome lens, I normally dont shot past 24mm, 20mm on a good day. I was surfing on BH in the used department, because I am that barginguy, and long and behold a used 24mm GM f1.4 for only a grand, yes a grand, with boxes, bag, hood, paper work and plastics. So when I received the item today I was very nervous to open it because I didnt know the condition, other then what BH said it was about an 8, to my surprise when I opened it, is was a 10 jackpot. OpticsGlass Super sharp and super clean, not one scratch. And now for the quality, I would say it is easily much sharper then the 1635mm GM, 85mm F1.4 GM and it is on par with my favorite Sony FE of all time, the FE 50mm F1.4 Zeiss 50mm 1.4 ZA is killer lens razorsharp dont sleep, though the 24mm GM has less CA wide open.In terms of sharpness it has to be one of the best and sharpest 24mm f.14 let alone in the Sony Line up. The color rendition is a GM level, as well as the build and the BOKEH Amazing fall off. I dont have any focusing issues when I pair it with my A7RIII. And there is no audible noise, that is of any concerns. The MFD is surreal, it isnt macro by any imagination, but it can get pretty close. I wouldnt even consider posting a picture on BH, because the compression wouldnt do the lens no justice.I know the 1635MM f2.8 is an awesome lens and serves a different purpose then the 24mm GM and I would, and others would consider it one of the best 1635mm lens out there, especially one of the top in the Sony FE Line up and for the price I got it for, I will kick myself if I was to sell it but only time will tell. But if I do sell it, I know the 24mm F1.4 GM would step up from the 24mm vantage point.I would easily brought this lens at full price and I was looking almost daily to purchase it, but always out of stock. The 24mm is the new 35mm, but much more versatile IMO. For my style of shooting, I have 4 lens, 1635mm GM, 50mm f1.4 ziess, Sony 85mm f1.8 I sold my 85GM for this and havent looked back and now the lovely, beautiful and light, 24mm GM For me, it was luck and worth the wait.If 24mm is you FL and if you are in the Sony FE camp, dont look any further, and yes, I am a big Sigma Fan, but the colors and the weight made me look right past it. though I did have the Sigma 20mm and 24mm FE and they are very sharp the color didnt wow me, howeverI hope this review helps someone who is deciding to buy this lens. I am not a paid photographer, but love all things cameras and photography am super enthusiast. Me buying lens at the price that I did, was a bonus, but it is easily worth the retail price. I would love to see the DXO Mark review if you believe in that site any more. Thanks for reading And happy Shooting

Forever, I have been a fan of wideangle. From films to photos. Portraits to landscapes, everything is amazing with wide angle. I have gone through many lenses, the 25mm f2 by Zeiss, the 35mm 1.4 GM from Sony, the 2470 2.8 GM from Sony, and finally now I have a lens that I love every aspect of. The 24mm 1.4 is lightning fast, 4x lighter than the 2470 and has better bokeh and corner sharpness than any other Sony lens available right now. The 1.4 paired with a wide angle is absolutely beautiful. This lens fits on my gimbal, is less expensive than any other G Master and will never come off my camera.Thank you Sony for continuing to listen to your audience and give us what we want.

Im in love with this lens. Its light, compact and SHARP Oh these pictures are amazing. It versatile in and outdoors too. Perfect allaround travel lens for me. I can walk around for hours without sticking out like a sore thumb or feeling like my neck needs adjustment. This is my first non zoom lens and it took me some getting use to the fact that, zooming its done with your feet. If you are a newbie like me be ready for that. Yes, I quickly found the supper 35 mm in camera option and that eased the transition period. However, at the end of the day, the deciding factor for me keeping this lens, was reviewing and editing the pictures after every trip. Every time, Ive sit down to sort my images its been a pleasant surprise. The color and sharpness, even in low light ... MoreIm in love with this lens. This lens is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a fast, wide, quality lens that was robust and well built. This checked all the boxes a focal length that I quite enjoy. I have used the 35mm, 55mm and 85mm native sony glass on our A7riii and they all drawbacks that led me to keep looking. I find the size of this lens to be very manageable the 85mm G Master is a monster while having some really good optics. The CA is there for sure but anyone buying this lens is going to fix that any other minor issues in post. I found the 55mm Zeis to be perhaps a bit sharper wide open but I like the colors on the G Master people say the Zeiss is more saturated but I didnt see that in my shots. The images really really pop. I also really like the aperture ring which I actually use and the assignable function button focus lock by default but I like it for EYE AF since the default button on the back is less comfortable to press and I hold this lenscamera combo with two hands its not light and with a flash is actually heavy. This is an expensive prime lens but I do think it will hold its value and I can keep it for some time since I plan to stay in the Sony ecosystem. I would suggest looking at the 85mm if you really only want to focus on portraits without that wide FOV. I like the wide look with kids because it makes for a more interesting photo. The made it harder to frame shots. Not sure if Sony will come out with a G 35 or 55 but for now I am very happy with this lens.

An f1.4 wide angle with superb optics wide open is a dream lens for astro, EXCEPT if intent is to capture auroras at high latitude, near or beyond the arctic circle, youll need to shoot in portrait orientation if you wish to include all or at least most of the aurora with any foreground. To frame an attractive composition youll need to stitch a panorama. Up for this challengeI was, and it can be done, but the advantage of f1.4 is lost, since even with short shutters, 2, and a click stop pano head I used the PocketPano about 35 is lost between exposures. Thus in the overlap, when merging, there is smear equivalent to an exposure of about 57.So you are better off, at high latitudes where auroras go far towards the azimuth, using a wider lens even if a stop slower, ... MoreAn f1.4 wide angle with superb optics wide open is a dream lens for astro, EXCEPT if intent is to capture auroras at high latitude, near or beyond the arctic circle, youll need to shoot in portrait orientation if you wish to include all or at least most of the aurora with any foreground. Thus in the overlap, when merging, there is smear equivalent to an exposure of about 57.So you are better off, at high latitudes where auroras go far towards the azimuth, using a wider lens even if a stop slower, shooting for 46 and at a lower ISO. I returned to my Laowa 15mm f2 ZeroD which has all the optical performance needed and boasts a tstop matching its fstop not all fast aperture lenses have such high transmission.I owned Sony 24 GM for a few months, then sold. For daytime landscape at 24mm my 424105 does fine, for nighttime cityscapes my Loxia 21 produces fine aperture stars around lights, and for astro I prefer my Laowa. Also the Laowa is always with me for its extremely close focus ability. For interest, attached is a pano merge of an aurora over the Dalton Highway in Alaska, north of the arctic circle, created from 4 images in portrait mode, f1.4, 1.6, ISO 6400 on an a7iii. Many stages of processing in LrC and a pass through Topaz AI DeNoise were needed. The aurora is not sharp despite short 1.6 shutter, and is equivalent to that of a 6 exposure due to delay between shots while flicking the pano head.

Small nice lens for everyday carry
15 February 2023

Large Sony lenses are nice, but hard to carry around for casual use. This little Samyang lens instantly converts your mirrorless Sony camera into a highly portable travel or everyday carry camera. I use it with my Sony AR74 and the results are really nice. At 24mm, it is great for taking it to casual events and taking shots of the natural environment or the moment you are in, without the difficulty of hauling a large and heavy setup.
