I purchased this SanDisk - Cruzer Glide 128GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive to create an audio music archive for a professional folk musician client who had recently passed away. I needed a reliable & portable Flash Drive to transfer more than eight hundred songs from professional recording studio sessions, more than a dozen CD Masters & many live concert recordings in high resolution stereo audio. The archive also included video & photo elements, album artwork & text documents related to this important project. Everything transferred very smoothly to the SanDisk Cruiser Glide Flash Drive. After verifying the transferred data, the flash drive was delivered to the client’s family to be utilized in creating future legacy projects. I read the reviews ahead of time and also searched among several similar products at this price point, and I was feeling good about my purchase. However, I was hoping for a simple connect-and-save flash drive for my Mac, and unfortunately the security software is something I don't understand. So, when I plug in the flash drive there are a number of steps I'm supposed to take in order to just use it - and, I am humble enough to say, I just couldn't figure it out. It was very disappointing and I probably should have requested a return or replacement for a different product when I first discovered this obstacle. I'm curious if PC users have an easier time even though this product is apparently for both Mac and PC. Or, maybe if you're more tech savvy. I'm graciously giving it two stars because if I can muster up the patience to try again, most of the reviews are positive I'm guessing it will work -but again, so far this is not useable at all for me at this point.

I have never owned a USB Flash Drive before, and I was extremely surprised at how easy this was to use and how much this has simplified my life! Now I wish I would have had one of these many years ago when I was in school! I was amazed there was virtually no setup. I initially bought it to use to re-install the firmware on my ps5 and update it and it worked great, but I have used it since to backup a bunch of vital stuff on my laptop. After that, I used it to transfer a file to make a printout at at a local FedEx location because we don't have a printer at home and it worked wonderfully! This has great portability for your vital files and can even be used as extended storage for some game consoles. It comes formatted in Phat32 file format by default and is basically plug-and-play on a Windows machine if that's the format you're intending to use (although it works with all platforms and is easily reformatted). The size is substantial at 32gb, yet it still consumes lower power from the usb port with that size plus being a usb 2.0 versus 3.0+ device. Got it on sale for $7.49 + tax and I feel that is a great value! The transfer speeds seemed fine to me, decently quick considering it's a usb 2.0. Also love the expandable/retractable usb end with the "glide" red button to protect it, it's very compact and light, and fits easily in any pocket. Pretty much the only negative I can think of is that it didn't come with a lanyard out of the box, but this is still 5 stars easily for the price/value! And not to mention the fact it's a Sandisk brand means it should be reliable in the long-term.

This USB started out great! Unfortunately, due to the design of it (i.e., metal USB portal that is soldered to a board incased in plastic), it has stopped connecting. The metal end kind of jiggles in the plastic case and will not connect in my computer. I have all my work files saved and now cannot access them. This is the 2nd USB encased in plastic that has broken, so I believe I will get solid metal USBs from now on. These tend to break too easily, then you cannot access your files.
SanDisk have always been a good USB flash drive. I get the USB 2.0 due to technical specifications can be manipulated. The USB 2.0 work in all the ports. I do a lot of Linux Distro testing, require a flash drive that will hold up for at least 20 installations, producing a lot of heat dispensation. These are good for music playing in a vehicle or USB device. I'm actually getting a USB 2.0 technology that's compatible with all USB devices. Amount of 16GB good for operating systems, music and video.
Excellent! Only issue I had was I did not know this was formatted in X-FAT32. I bought this thumb drive to put the movies I have on my PC on it so that I could watch them in my living room on my smart tv... after spending a couple hours transferring files to the drive, I plug it into my smart tv and get an error telling me that the drive was not supported. I tried it on my Sony Blu-ray that has a usb slot for external media and it doesn’t recognize the drive either. I tell my husband about it and he says I need to format the thumb drive with a regular FAT32 file system. Well, I did as I was instructed, reloaded the movies after formatting with FAT32 and bingo! Both my smart tv and my Blu-ray can now read the files on the drive! So, if anyone has problems with your ... MoreExcellent! Only issue I had was I did not know this was formatted in X-FAT32. You should be good to go! SANDISK, YOU REALLY SHOULD LABLE THE PACKAGING WITH THE TYPE OF FORMATING ON THE DRIVE! That would save people a lot of wasted time knowing this in advance
I feel like I have been purchasing these SanDisk Cruzer Glide drives for years and years and years; at some point, I'm sure it will be time for something fancier, but for now these still work great. Sure, you can get bigger drives than this 16GB version, but for my needs 16GB is more than enough (it still even seems like enough size for things like installing Windows). Sure, you can get a USB 3.0 drive that might offer faster transfer speeds, but I've never felt slowed down using this USB 2.0 drive. And I particularly like the size: small enough that it feels compact, but large enough that it doesn't feel too fragile or easy to misplace. Most importantly, it seems like you can still get these at a great value.
Due to Microsoft Windows 8 and 10 needing USB flash drives to create bootable recovery media, and also using several utilities (BooIt Bare Metal, Clonezilla) that also use/create bootable USB drives I purchased the SanDisk brand since I have never had boot trouble with this brand drive. One would think that all known brand USB flash drives would be fairly close in performance - yes maybe one is faster than the other, but generally functionally equivalent. Unfortunately I've had constant trouble with reliable booting from PNY (Inostor) 32GB USB 3.0 Flash drives. Given that the Windows Recovery disk is now a bootable USB flash drive, one cannot afford to have intermittent boot trouble with these drives. Thus my experiment with the less expensive PNY drives as bootable Flash drives has ended - and now I use SanDisk for these type of drives. You can still use PNY for data - I've never had a problem with lost data on a PNY drive.Note that this drive is a USB 2.0 Flash drive. I would have preferred a USB 3 drive since they're faster (and time is money) but they did not have any more at this size and price point in USB 3 in the store. USB 2 drives work in USB 3 "sockets/slots/" - they're compatible, but not as fast. Notice that some companies have taken to saying that their Flash drives are USB 3 compatible - implying they're USB 3 spec'd - beware of misleading package labeling.
I found this device to be very glitchy, it took several times plugging it in to get the driver to install. The file transfer itself was fine, very slow but this is a USB 2.0 device so that is as expected (I was worried my very old and about-to-die Windows 7 computer couldn't handle a USB 3.0 transfer so I erred on the side of caution and bought 2.0's to use). It took literally h-o-u-r-s to transfer files and fill this device up but the transfer was ultimately successful. However, at the end when I tried to eject the device I got a notice that it was "currently in use" and I needed to close the program that was using it. There were no programs open, so I thought maybe it just needed to finish wrapping up whatever it needed to do now that the file transfer was complete. So I waited. And waited. Eventually I gave up (after about an hour) and yanked it from the computer without ejecting it. Then, to see if the files were intact I plugged it in again. I got a message saying it needed to be scanned and fixed and I clicked OK. It then "fixed" it and I checked and the files were there and this time I was able to eject it without any problem. Next I used another of these Glides (purchased at the same time) and the same thing happened, same exact experience-- multiple attempts to download the driver, unable to eject, etc. I blamed my near-dead laptop for the glitches, until I tried a Cruzer Blade USB 2.0 and had NONE of these problems. So, hmmm. I like that the Glide has a retractible end but that is the only thing about it that I like. I've already lost hours of my life to data transfer so I'm going to keep them, but I will not reuse them and I will not purchase them again, not just because of the hassle using this drive but because I worry with all its problems that it won't store my data safely. Very disappointing for a SanDisk device to be this glitchy.
I have tons of flash drives. A few years ago I started buying SanDisk because of the rave reviews and low cost. With each one it would be the same--things would be perfect and then maybe a year or two later, the drive would become "write protected" out of the blue. True--this does happen occasionally in all brands, but there are all kinds of procedures you supposedly can do to unlock a flash drive and none of them worked. This past week it happened again, and I was infuriated. I started looking for other reviews to see if others have had the same experience and lo and behold, the first one star review here at Office Depot not only confirmed this issue, the reviewer said that he called customer support, to be told that the company deliberately puts this feature in ... MoreI have tons of flash drives. I started looking for other reviews to see if others have had the same experience and lo and behold, the first one star review here at Office Depot not only confirmed this issue, the reviewer said that he called customer support, to be told that the company deliberately puts this feature in whenever a fault is detected and that the only way to fix it was to send it in. I could understand if this feature kicks in due to negligence or heavy use (like transferring large amounts of files multiple times a month). But I barely used each drive precisely because I have enough of them as it is. This last drive, I don't think I transferred more than maybe six times during a year and half span. So, it appears with this product that they've been designed with planned obsolescence in mind. Because of this, I wouldn't recommend them at all. At the most it seems as if you'll only get about a few transfers in before they lock down.
