One of the newer flash drives that comes with a USB-C connector rather than the old USB-A connector. Sorely needed when using newer computers such as MacBooks or iPads Air or Pro. I can't really comment on the speed - flash drives just are slower than SSD drives, but it's sufficient for smaller files. I tried the built-in encryption software, but found it cumbersome. It's easier to let your Mac (or PC) handle the encryption.

I bought the *previous version* of the Ultra Fit around 2016, and it started off pretty great - usually full USB 3.0 speeds for read, and a decent ~40 MB/s write. Not bad for the deal I got on the drive back then. Then, once I started putting more than 5GB of files on it (years later), its issues started showing up. Drive got very hot, and often ejected itself (Windows would do the unplug and replug sound). Move it to a USB 2.0 port, and the issues were gone, but you'd rarely beat 20MB/s writes. Now (of course after the warranty period), but after having written less than a terabyte or 2 on the drive, the drive is dying. With use on USB3 making errors and/or ejecting itself, I can only use it on USB2, but it now writes at ~6 MB/s, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ... MoreI bought the *previous version* of the Ultra Fit around 2016, and it started off pretty great - usually full USB 3.0 speeds for read, and a decent ~40 MB/s write. But I don't.Great look, it was on my keychain for years and I didn't even loose the cap, but alas, the design is clearly heavily flawed, and these small drives just can't cool themselves fast enough. At least, not the SanDisk ones. I would have recommended it as a USB 2 drive, but even so, it seems like it can't even handle more than a dozen overwrites, which is woefully low for any flash tech (and this must have been TLC or better). That, or the heat killed it.

Compact, fast and reliable.

Great little USB stick. Short review: Very compact, Fairly fast read/write speeds, Reliable. Want more info? Read on: USB 3.0 means fairly fast file transfer speeds when writing to it. I have had the 64gb one for a while and it has been very reliable so when I spotted a 128gb one for under 20 including postage it wasn't a tough decision to make. It's physical size is both a plus and a (minor) minus. It barely protrudes from any USB port, so it not prone to being knocked out/disconnecting, but can be a bit fiddly to remove as there isn't much of it to grasp. Also locating it in a pocket or bag can be panic inducing as it's so small that it isn't easily spotted/felt. It can get a little toasty as there isn't much of it to dissipate heat, but I have never experienced any stoppage or noticeable thermal throttling. If you have a work computer with limited storage that is in and out of a bag all day these are great as you can leave it in place rather than connecting/removing every time. I DJ from a laptop and often space is very limited and things get jostled, so thisis great for expanding the library of tunes available without having a regular size USB hanging out the side to the laptop in harms way. Recommended if you want a dependable, compact, storage option.

Excellent high quality usb drive, no problems and lots of storage space.
31 August 2022

This official SanDisk 512GB drive is good value with an excellent storage capacity. It was well packaged and arrived quickly to the UK by recorded post. This is actually the second one I've purchased now. The drive works perfectly and it's a very good transfer speed. Total actual free space is about 460.27GB this is also partially due to some software that you could probably just delete if not required increasing space quite a lot more. The file system is FAT32 and so to store movie files larger than 4.0GB I used AOMEI Partition Assistant to convert this usb drive to NTFS and it worked great.

Expected more.

Entire enclosure is plastic, regardless of how sellers or manufacturer make it look. Plastic around connection is thin, weak and flexes. Price: Yeah I guess its a good value. Functionality: Using as a Live Ubuntu image. Hopefully I can go back and partition the install. Wasting space right now. Speed: Not tested. Loads and runs Ubuntu 20 LTS without issue. Would I buy it again: Not for its original intended use case. Recommended: On the fence. For just random storage, sure. For longevity absolutely not.

Poorly Designed - Beware
20 August 2021

This device is poorly designed. It is not low profile and sticks out of your device by ~1cm (between 9 and 10mm). Because it hangs out so far and has a big lip for a lanyard it is very easy to lose in the day-to-day (I had it pop out while removing my laptop from my bag). Furthermore, the shape of the plastic is tapered instead of squared, so if you drop your device and it lands on the drive, the drive will ream into your USB port and kill it, which happened to me today.SanDisk should make / you should buy a drive that has a square end on it. That way if your device is dropped, the load of the fall is transferred to the device case instead of the USB port. If you look at the GALAXY of products there is a proper FIT.

SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash Drive
30 March 2022

Bought four of these flash drives for use with my iMac 24” 2021 model. Very fast data transfer compared to my USB-A flash drives. But then I use them for photo storage; backup of Pages files, Numbers files, Quicken files. I don’t transfer huge files like movies, games, etc. So, I can’t attest to their speed under those conditions. In order to use the USB-A flash drives on the 2021 iMac, adapters are required because the computer is equipped with ports that accept only USB-C style connections. These flash drives are comparable in cost to adapters. Just made sense to make the switch to the USB-C flash drives.

So far, so good

I was worried about this product overheating since it's a plastic enclosure, but it seems to be doing fine. It does heat up a bit, but not so much that it burns my fingers if I touch it. I would recommend the next line be a Cruzer Fit-type that have metal enclosures and have six heat vents (two standard on top and two on each side) that help with dissipating heat.Cruzer was a great line, but lacked in speed being only 2.0 and only having a storage capacity of up to only 64GB.A Cruzer "3.1," if you will, should have the metal enclosures and six heating vents like before, but be 3.1 and have a storage capacity of up to 512GB.

The only thumb drive I'll ever trust with my data
25 October 2022

An excellent product, I've never had one fail to function. SanDisk is the only flash/thumb drive I trust with my data. The only con I can think of is the randomness of their fit. They all fit my computers fairly well, but when I've used various thumbs to play music in my car stereo some of them fit so tight, I almost fear I'll damage my stereo pulling them out. Other than that, some come with covers, some don't and they're so small I have to color code them to tell one from another.

USB-C USB Stick - Slim is in
2 June 2021

This is a USB-C stick. The USB-C connector is exactly what I wanted. You can plug it into your phone and your recently bought laptop. Because this is a USB-C-only device, they have made the body slimmer than they could if they still had the older style USB. And that is one of the things I like about it. Periodically, I transfer photos and movie clips off of my phone and onto my laptop. I use this USB stick for that purpose - and by leaving them on the stick, I am generating a back-up copy. This USB-C stick is lovely to look at, works well, and is not weighed down by the bigger, older USB connector. If your devices have USB-C connectors, then this is the USB stick for you - recommended.
