An actual shoe review.
I snagged these bad boys for $65 on Amazon—bargain hunting at its finest! I was on the prowl for a trail half marathon shoe that wouldn’t break the bank, and these seemed like a solid bet. Now, are they the greatest shoes out there? Nah. But for the price, they’re pretty darn good!I’ve got wide feet (like, “bust-out-of-Altras” wide), but I was pleasantly surprised by the toe box here—fantastic! I’m a 10.5, and these fit like a glove. If you’re planning on hitting the downhills, do yourself a favor and use a lace lock—and maybe even throw on some grippy socks to help with foot stability inside the shoe. The grip on these shoes? On gravel and pavement, you really feel the 3/4 carbon/rock plate. All in all, I’d recommend these for light trails and non-technical terrain. They’re perfect for dusty switchbacks or well-maintained paths. But if you’re thinking of tackling anything more intense, bring out the big guns—these shoes aren’t made for the rough stuff!... Another hit from Saucony
After reading lots of online reviews and comparisons, I decided to get the Endorphin Edge shoes for an upcoming 8hr trail run. I've been using Saucony for years as my road running shoe and am now venturing into trail running, the feel and fit is true as with their road shoes but the Edge has a wide and spacious toe box which gives the toes room to move. The upper is light and breathable but still sheds away water and mud, with reinforcements were needed to avoid rocks from tearing it up. The sole is great on hard surfaces, soil and loose dirt, but can be slippery in smooth wet surfaces. I wanted a carbon plated shoe to keep the shoe springy and also serve as rock plate; I can't say that I feel a lot of assistance from the plate when running, especially when pushing ... I wanted a carbon plated shoe to keep the shoe springy and also serve as rock plate; I can't say that I feel a lot of assistance from the plate when running, especially when pushing off the forefoot. But the cushioning and plate come alive when stepping over rocks, the cushioning lessens the impact and then the plate pops and pushes off. I'm really pleased with the purchase, I've only put about 20 miles of trail running and hiking and hope the response keeps getting better as they are worn in.... Show more

Finally, a perfect fast packing/trail running shoe
After 25 years, I finally found my perfect thru-hiking and fast packing shoe! I’m 6’5”, 240 pounds. Not only does this shoe have a crazy amount of cushion, but the carbon fiber plate and rock plate protect the bottom of my feet from rock bruises. The carbon fiber plate makes all the difference. These shoes are incredibly light, dry super fast and are extremely comfortable. I have about 80 miles of technical trail/off trail hiking on these and am surprised at how little wear they show. I really hope that Saucony does not change a thing on these shoes, but I bought 2 extra pairs just in case.... Show more

Good addition to the Saucony line
I bought a pair about a month ago. I found the shoe was not quite true to size (owning 10 pairs of Saucony now, all the same size) and I needed to return. Order 1/2 down, due to the length.Break in went well and I felt that the shoe was essentially ready for racing/long distances out of the box.I hoped to give this shoe a 5 star but some of the concerns meant I could only give it 3.5 (default to 4) stars at this time.Pros: light shoe, overall fit was pretty good once the sizing was correct and the shoe was stiff enough for what I like in the trails. Overall the shoe felt fast.Cons: the lacing has been challenging. No matter how I laced (various racer loops styles), the heel would have some slipping which I haven't solved yet. Overall the shoe felt fast.Cons: the lacing has been challenging. No matter how I laced (various racer loops styles), the heel would have some slipping which I haven't solved yet. During a race, I had to stop several times to adjust the lacing as they would loosen up a bit (possibly still breaking in) or I had them a bit too tight around the ankle.Had to replace one shoe to fit a power pod as the original lacing didn't allow the proper placement of a pod.-durability is questionable after 4 runs where there are chunks missing out of the foam sides from normal Trail use in the woods.-stability is a bit nerve racking but this is possibly my issue of not being used to a taller stack height. I had some minor ankle rollers and felt not sure footed on technical terrain and downhills.-traction was acceptable on hard packed terrain that wasn't too technical. During my race last week, there was a bit of moisture in the short grassy and dirty (a bit of mud) sections and the shoes were a struggling. I could feel my feet slide, also laterally at times. This meant I could not push as hard as I have in other similar trail shoes.Overall, I'm content with the shoe but some of the concerns mean it's not my top racing shoe at this time.A little irritating that not all produced colors were available in Canada.... Great for less technical mixed terrain
I bought these for a mixed trail/road race (8 miles trail, 5 miles road) because I figured the higher stack would be better on the road portion, even though it might compromise the trail portion a little. Most of the trail was hard pack that had just been rained on and it turned to mud. on the trail portion of the race, there was 1200ft of climbing over about 6 miles with 17 water crossings so these shoes got soaked through and drained water repeatedly. I was slightly worried about the review that said the shoes got horribly heavy after getting wet. I’m pleased to report that this was not the case. The reviewer must not be used to running in wet shoes. I found these shoes drained water reasonably well and my feet dried out between the water crossings. The shoes ... The reviewer must not be used to running in wet shoes. I found these shoes drained water reasonably well and my feet dried out between the water crossings. The shoes never became super heavy. Another plus was that the rubber on the soles did not accumulate much mud and shed the mud super fast with each stream dunking. I looked at other people’s shoes and some people were legitimately wearing mud boots halfway through. The downhill trail portion was well cushioned due to the higher stack. I didn’t bomb the hill, but I found I could keep up a fairly brisk pace without losing traction. These shoes also functioned well on the road portion with enough cushion for the last miles of the race. Over all I was very happy with the product’s performance.... Show more

Great for trails & winter running
I purchased these trail running shoes with trail running in mind. I am finding that they are extremely versatile. I have also been using them for walking/running in the winter elements in the city. The added grip on the bottom is enough to make you feel secure walking/ running in ice and snow. The shoe itself does provide stability. The fabric of the shoe feels extremely water resistant- my feet have been dry even when running in light rain and snow.I did swap the laces out for something that stayed better tied- I had some issues with the original laces staying tied on runs.Sizing for the shoe is spot on. I sized up a half size as I like my running shoes to have a bit more space in the toe.... Show more

Great straight out of the box!
Wore these for a messy ultra straight out of the box! Normally would not recommend, and had an extra pair of shoes stashed in a drop bag just in case, but I was confident the fit would be great from other Saucony shoes I have - they did not disappoint. Did great on the extremely muddy sections and had good cushion and roll/turnover on the runnable sections. Performed well on the uphills and down! Didn’t feel too high off the ground as I have with some other shoes with this much cushion- they performed well on the technical terrain as well; no fear of turning an ankle. They got trashed with mud right away (so much for the new shoe colorway) but held up really well (even after a wash)!... Show more

Ok for shorter runs on even footing.
I am a big fan of the Endorphin line and have worn nothing but the speeds, pro's, and pro+ for the past two years. I love how light they are and I have run injury-free (>55 miles per week) for that time. I have been looking for a good trail shoe, and the reviews on the Edge were encouraging. Unfortunately, I just do not love this shoe for the type of trail running I do. I run a lot of swampy/wet/uneven muddy terrain. These shoes are fine on pavement and packed sand, but once they absorb any amount of water they become extremely heavy. Once wet, the sole feels much stiffer which becomes uncomfortable when running over uneven terrain since there is little to no give underfoot. I started to notice a pain under my foot and behind my knee after 6 or so miles of those ... I started to notice a pain under my foot and behind my knee after 6 or so miles of those conditions. I have worn on a few trail runs to see if they would soften, but I still feel the same after about 70 miles in these shoes. I will keep these for my shorter trail runs (<10 miles) on even, or packed-sand or rocky terrain (or hiking). For anything longer than 10 miles through ultra, I feel as if they are too heavy and not nimble enough for softer trail-terrain.... Show more

Poor durability
I just want to preface this by saying I am and have been a huge fan of Saucony for a while… back to when the kinvara’s were one of the newest light weight trainers on the market. For the past 10 years I’ve exclusively run in Saucony shoes. I currently have 2 endorphin speed 3s, the endorphin pro 3, and 3 pairs of Kinvara 13 in my rotation.I took up trail running last year, so naturally I gravitated to the peregrine line. The fit and comfort were good, so I bought several pairs. Unfortunately the durability of this shoe is very poor. The uppers would rip through and the lugs would get worn down very quickly and after a month or two the lugs/sole just rips off. In the beginning I thought it was just me, as I admit, I am quite rough on them. But in the past season ... In the beginning I thought it was just me, as I admit, I am quite rough on them. But in the past season I’ve gone through about 5 peregrines, 2 peregrine gore tex, and 1 endorphin edge. The sole rips off and the lugs get worn down so quickly. Why did I keep buying them? I guess I’m a fool and a sucker for saucony so I never thought of buying anything else. I wanted to run through the mountains doing my best impression of Racin Grayson. So I signed up for a 50 mile ultra. I had nothing to wear to the dance so I panicked and bought another pair of the endorphin edge trail runners a week before the race. Even though they aren’t that durable, they are a fast shoe and they’re comfortable even while running on the road. I did two easy shakeout runs on the track, and the race. So I’ve run in these 3 times and they are breaking down.So while I will still buy the road shoes, this was the last straw and I’m giving up on the trail runners until things improve.... Show more

Shoes great, soles meh
Bought for my son for varsity cross-country. He enjoyed the shoes. They are light, good cushion and traction, with some spring. He ran on road and dirt tracks, not tactical trails. He got a pink colored pair. The PB foam is painted, so when it was damaged it was white underneath -- an aesthetic issue that can be overlooked. Bigger problem was that the tread wore too quickly. With about a month left in the season, the centers of the sole were nearly flat. If Saucony invested in a more solid and sharp Vibram material, I am convinced they would have lasted the season, possibly beyond. That may require some compromise in weight, but if you are spending $200 on a top-quality shoe, it should last the season.... Show more
