Soon after its launch, it began to break records for speed, payload, height and range.nThe S.55 had many innovative design features. All passengers or cargo were housed in twin fuselages, but the pilot and crew commanded the aircraft from the cockpit in the thicker section of the wing, between the two fuselages. The S.55 had two in-line contra-rotating propellers mounted in tandem. The engines were tilted sharply upwards.
