Sawyer Products One-Gallon Gravity Water Filtration System
The Gravity system is a lightweight, robust solution for filtering large quantities of water. It uses Sawyer's Dual-Threaded MINI filter to remove impurities from up to 100, 000 gallons, making it ideal for backpacking, backcountry camping, and emergency preparedness. The MINI filter weighs just under 40 grams and removes 7 log (99.99999%) of all bacteria (like salmonella) as well as other harmful bacteria which causes cholera and E. coli and 6 log (99.9999%) of all protozoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium. EPA guidelines allow ten times more protozoa left in the water than the Sawyer MINI filter allows. The MINI also filters out 100% of microplastics. With threads on both sides you can screw the push/pull cap onto the MINI for easy on/off functionality while filtering. The dual-bag is also convenient and easily packable, and it doesn't require any pumping either. The bladder features a wide mouth cap that allows for fast and easy filling, as well as a convenient carry handle. To set up a gravity system, first fill the reservoir with water from any source (a lake, stream, pond, glacier, kitchen faucet, etc.). Hang the bag — from a tree, the back of your pack, or hold it up with your hand — and connect the MINI to the included hose and let gravity do its work. Water will flow through the MINI to produce fresh, clean water for drinking and cooking. This kit includes: One 1-gallon bladder, cleaning plunger, cleaning coupling, and a gravity hose with adapters.

Sawyer filters were already the best and they only got better with the one gallon bag and gravity feed setup, filter water while you do other things like build a fire or set up camp

I haven’t used this specific Sawyer product before, but I used a smaller rig with the same filtration technology to drink untreated tap water for a month in the Philippines that the locals wouldn’t touch for anything but washing dishes or doing laundry. It’s a great cheap piece of emergency gear that everyone should have in their ruck, or at least their closest. Be sure to backwash, care for it and it will care for you.

The assembly was very easy. Good capacity and not heavy when lifting. The flow is not as fast as expected, maybe I am not doing something right. It would be nice to have some string or rope to be sent with the package since you need to hang it somewhere while filtering. I also notice that it does not fully drained when "done".

PRO: It seemed perfect. A no-frills solution with a high quality filter. Compatible with regular disposable water bottles- what a great idea.CON: The quality and construction is where this item falls down. The plastic pieces are rigid and will break. It was very difficult to open the spigot. This is a highly disposable item with a short lifespan.WHAT TO DO? I bought a Platypus instead. The design and build quality is excellent. Soft surgical rubber construction. I used this on my last hiking trip and was so impressed, I had to get my own. Its worth the extra money.
This is the best filter ever for adaptability!!! The Dual Treading is the key. I can use almost any water bottle or bag as a clean or dirt. It's packed in a Nelgene Bottle with all the tubing w/ quick-connects & adapters, a cup, SteriPen; Water Bottle Prefilter & a 2Lt DromLite on top, all in a 10x4 H2O Molle Pouch. & 2 Squeeze Pouch:-)Now Sawyers Gallon Bag feels like it's a Beta. Love the 63mm top cap & 28mm bottom cap. Again great for adaptability. But it does not pack as nice as I want. Put the 28mm bottom cap on a Dromedary Bag & it word be perfect.FYI: The black plastic part is to lay the bag on a table to guard the tube from the edge.
We bought this and used it following the instructions. Then we tested the water with a water tester and the water was so dirty and disgusting. This does not do the job it calls for. Don’t waste your money!
This was my first try with a gravity water filtration system. While I like the concept of the gravity system, this particular model is just poorly designed and not well thought-out. Here are some of the problems: (1) unlike most other systems that use a bag with a large open end to fill with water, this bag has a small opening and the bag collapses when you submerge it, so it will not fill. I had to fill a separate pot with water and pour it into the Sawyer bag, (2) the pull spout on the end of the filter is very hard to pull and requires two hands. My wife had to use her teeth to pull it open! (3) there are too many unattached small parts like caps that you have to keep track of. They don't use attach clips or ties like most other systems, (4) filtration rate is ... MoreThis was my first try with a gravity water filtration system. They don't use attach clips or ties like most other systems, (4) filtration rate is quite slow, especially if you don't have a high branch to hang the bag from, (5) there is no hanging strap, just a large handle that may not allow a tree branch to fit through. I plan to switch to the Platypus gravity filtration system.
I bought this to use for a four-day backpacking trip with two buddies and my dog, planning for it to be our main water source for the trip. I had trouble finding any gravity filter systems that were within my budget, so I jumped at the chance when I found the Sawyer system. It is lightweight, easy to assemble and use, and filtered several gallons of water over the course of our trip with no problems. The filter was also very easy to clean with the included plunger once we got back to a clean water source. Not quite as fast or convenient as a two-bag system but it outperformed my expectations considering the price. I think I'll be purchasing another bag to make things a little easier, otherwise I was very pleased with my purchase.
I lead trail crew work trips and have used another gravity water filter system for years as our in camp filter system, the other filter was a bit pricy so I thought I would try the Sawyer 1 gallon gravity filter system. The Sawyer filter seems to work fine but the rest of the system is very poor quality, the fittings all leak, the water bag is bulky and difficult to fill to full capacity from a stream, and there is no inline shut off.I am now using the old system with the Sawyer filter, I don’t recommend the rest of the Sawyer 1 gallon filter system, it is junk, and instead I would use a 3 liter [other brand bag] with the Sawyer filter, in line, with a shut off on the end.The Sawyer filters seem to be very good for the price; no one on our crews has ever gotten ... MoreI lead trail crew work trips and have used another gravity water filter system for years as our in camp filter system, the other filter was a bit pricy so I thought I would try the Sawyer 1 gallon gravity filter system. The unit came with zero instructions. Now some things are clear, but others could use some documentation. Like how long before the cartridge should be changed? The unit came with one hose when it clearly needed two. Am I supposed to cut the included hose? I got some cheap hose from another product, but that's a big minus to me.Also what's with the little black plastic part? It clips onto the outflow of the big bag but seems to do, well, nothing.Unsure how well it purifies water, but what I've seen so far does not impress me.
