Even milk and juice bottles have a foil seal but not this brake fluid that is hygroscopic (water absorbing). Bought 4 bottles, and 2 bottles leaked out fluid after falling over in back of car on the way home. The tops were on tightly and luckily they were in a bag.The main point is they are UNSEALED, which means they will also absorb moisture from the atmosphere under normal humidity levels. Therefore this fluid should be disgarded after 2 years, even if unopened or still on the shelf, but there is NO date of manufacture. Also no additional data, so must assume it just meets DOT4 spec, with dry 230deg boiling point and 155deg @ 3.7% moisture.OK value for money though at half usual price for an average car but would definitely not use in my Mercs, Porsche or any ... I've the more expensive Nulon brake fluid however I tend to like the SCA Dot4 fluid as it has a nice dark green dye and can easily be seen in the master cylinder resevor and bleed lines. Most other brands are translucent in color
As someone else has already highlighted these bottles come without a foil seal which for a hydroscopic fluid isn't really all that reassuring. As I swap fluid every 2 years I don't see it as a major issue. The other curious thing is that SCA advertise this stuff as transparent straw in colour but mine was more like transparent green.
My car still stops. That's nice. With the requirements of DOT4, I can't imagine there are significant differences between brands as it must meet a specification set externally. And SCA probably has too much to lose to try and pass non complying fluids. So I'm satisfied. Plus, my car still stops. So the proof is in the pudding.
It works but there is no seal under the cap. It measured about 2 % water for me, which is considered usable, but I think having a seal would have it arrive “fresher” as other brands use.
Handy little pack of brake fluid at a great price. I didn't want to pay a fortune just for enough brake fluid to top up the reservior
Too expensive for a generic brake fluid. I have seen Castrol advertised at a lower price. Can get Honda brake fluid for less.
I bought this SCA HD Dot 4 fluid today intending to use it on a Ford Falcon system flush n fill. When I opened it, it was green and not straw coloured as I had expected and which the spec says it should be. I took it back and got another brand.
