Comfortable all day shoe

I have been climbing since 1973 and although these are not the very best shoes I've used they are very good. There have been a few complaints in the reviews about the rubber, which is Vibram XVS edge, same as on the La Sportiva TC Pros (which I also own). This rubber needs about 1 pitch of outdoor climbing to break-in. After that it is great. Maybe not C4 but still excellent. For me the shoe is a nice compromise, it edges OK, smears very well and is very good in cracks, although you may wear through the hook&loop strap if you do a lot of crack climbing. This is a fine shoe for all kinds of climbs ranging from South Platte pure friction routes to City of Rocks cracks, up to about 5.10 in grade. Above that I tend to default to the TC Pros.

If you are used to have lots of space around your toes (likely wearing shoes that are way too big) then this would be a change for you - but they should not hurt. The only gripe I have is that there is a seam on the inside of the toebox that will rub against your big toe. I get around it by trimming my callouses and toenail. It sounds like Scarpa moved that seam out of that area in 2018; but this shoe still have it. This is rather minor considering all the issues with every other shoe I tried.Velcro is solid and I really like being able to adjust the front strap how it straddles the toes/forefoot.Rear loops are super helpful.I also like the visual aesthethic/design of the shoe - none of that random vomit splatter material and colors that other shoe manufacturers come up with.Highly recommended for beginners and beginner to intermediate.

Fantastic shoes for years of climbing
11 May 2023

My first pair of climbing shoes! I absolutely loved them. They were definitely a bit expensive for an intro pair, but they're amazing to learn in. Break-in period wasn't too long, and within a few weeks, these were beyond comfortable and able to be wore for long sessions. They lasted about two full years of consistent usage before a split in the toe-box forced me to retire them.I got a size down from my street shoes (from US 10 to 9).

Feel Good

Found these on the Re-Supply shelf and liked the fit. After a couple days of climbing, they now fit so comfortably on my wide feet that I can keep them on all day. They feel good on the climb to me and stickier than my last shoe, but I'm no expert and have never used more "precision" shoes. I never blame these shoes when I fail. Climbing v4 and cracking into v5.

I bought these when I entered rope climbing from bouldering, and found that my down-sized Scarpa Vapor V's were too aggressive for long climbs. I wanted a Scarpa shoe a size up from my Vapors, and that would be confortable to keep on for a long time. These are perfect in that regard. Super comfy, and perform well enough. Two major cons though:Rubber is not very sticky. On an outdoor slab, I ripped up my hands trying to start an easy climb because these soles just wouldn't stick to the slab, and I kept sliding back down the wall while everyone else could just walk right up it.ANDSmelly! I'm not a very smelly guy. My shoes never stink. These are the first pair I've ever owned that reek after I climb. I've been climbing for nearly 4 years now, and this shoe is my 5th pair in that amount of time. They've held together way better than everything else I've worn* - I tend to develop holes in the front at the big toe, and in some pairs the sole starts to separate from the bottom at the front. These have shown zero signs of any of that wear, and I've been using them for 4 months now.The shoes are also very comfortable, with a thicker, softer inner layer. There is the matter of the seam across the big toe - I just climbed through it and my body took care of the issue itself by adding callouses at the hot spots. A primitive solution, but a solution nonetheless.I haven't noticed any issues with sticking to footholds with these shoes, though I see that's a recurring ... MoreI've been climbing for nearly 4 years now, and this shoe is my 5th pair in that amount of time. I'm not saying these aren't legit complaints, but if you're falling off holds, better to focus on your climbing than blame your gear. Also, people have mentioned not wanting to use these past 5.11, etc. I mostly boulder, so it's not a direct comparison, but these shoes have been perfectly fine with any difficulty I've thrown myself at. They haven't given me any undue difficulties at V8 and up (again, see previous paragraph). These are a great shoe for the money, and in my opinion a good shoe period. Will happily recommend these to anyone.*Previous shoes I've worn, to get an idea of my frame of reference:Five Ten - VerdonLa Sportiva - OxygymLa Sportiva - Nago

Solid beginner shoe

I decided to dive headfirst into bouldering and needed a pair of beginner shoes. I chose these because I wanted a velcro closure that felt good on my feet and didn't break the bank. I read lots of guides and got some in store help on what size to get and was largely pointed toward going true to size or even a little smaller.Ended up with a pair that were close to my regular size (44 EU...for reference I wear 10.5 US Men's in Chuck Taylor's). Way too small. My understanding is climbing shoes should be kinda tight but not painful. These were absolutely painful after about 30 mins in the gym. Took the 44s back and ended up sizing up to a 45. Much better for a beginner shoe. Still snug, but I'm not in pain at the end of a bouldering session. All in all I've liked ... MoreI decided to dive headfirst into bouldering and needed a pair of beginner shoes. My only real issue is the rubber on the outsole is fairly hard, so they don't always grip the smallest holds all that well.

I started climbing in a pair of Scarpa Origins that were an excellent beginner shoe but oddly stretched out and became really sloppy. REI had a sale and figuring that I liked the initial fit and feel of the Origins, I went in and snagged a pair of these. First and foremost, fit and feel is very comfortable. The heel hold well, mid foot is comfortable, and the toe box is snug without being a toe torture chamber. The velcro straps are wide and secure easily. With this in mind, the performance isn't 100%. The shoes perform well on straight forward routes, but on more technical moves and edges where being precise matters, they felt less than what I was looking for. Overall, they're comfortable shoes that a beginner would definitely benefit from and they are great for long days and long climbs were being comfortable matters. If you're looking for something super aggressive or high performance, consider otherwise.

Took some breaking in but great now
16 November 2021

I have climbed a few times a year since I was a kid but never bought my own shoes until this past summer when I moved close enough to a gym that I could justify a membership. I thought these were extremely tight trying them on in store, to the point that I thought I needed to buy a couple sizes up from my normal shoe size. Luckily one of the employees talked me out of that, letting me know they would need to be broken in but that they were mostly true to size when wearing them barefoot. After wearing them for a few hours a week at the gym for a month they were no longer uncomfortable. I would recommend sizing up no more than half a size.

Scarpa Force V - EU 45

(119 reviews)

Scarpa Force V Climbing shoes (45, black) - If you value comfort, have a look at the Scarpa Force V! This climbing shoe has mid-low tension and medium asymmetry and thus corresponds more to the shape of your foot. This makes the shoe more comfortable, so you'll be able to wear it for longer periods without experiencing discomfort. Despite the comfort of the shoe, it will still perform beautifully on intermediate all-day trad and multi-pitch routes. This is mainly due to the extremely sticky Vibram sole that will provide you with excellent stability on edges. So, you'll have all the support you could need when standing on footholds. What's more, the sole is resistant to drastic changes in temperature. Thanks to the hook and loop fasteners, the shoe is not only incredibly easy to slip on and off but also easy to adjust. The upper is made of leather, which will eventually adapt to the shape of your foot. Plus, it's naturally breathable and odourless. The tongue is made of quick-drying mesh fabric, which contributes to an overall great environment for your feet.Regardless of whether you're trying out climbing for the first time or just want something more comfortable for your next long climb, the Scarpa Force V is the shoe for you!
