So, in ordering your street shoe size you may already be getting the suggested downsizing, or at least part of it.

I originally bought an older version of these boots for mountaineering in Colorado, and I also ended up using them during the spring shoulder season in California for some military mountaineer training. These were the first true mountianeering boots I had ever worn and it really took some getting used to. They felt heavier than what I was used to, and I did not like the stiffness at first. They were uncomfortably warm in the summer as well. That being said, after spending some time in them I did get used to it, and I have come to appreciate them. In alpine terrain and cold, snowy conditions these things are money. Once I got used to the stiffness, I learned how to use the boot to get through technical terrain, and it really shines there. In the snow they are warm ... In the snow they are warm and dry, and in steep, snowy terrain these boots are my go-to. I will be wearing this boot for my late season hunts in Montana this year. The insole it comes with doesn't have much cushion, so you may want to replace that.

These are nice looking and well built boots, warm and solid leather, and with ample space inside, made in Italy. Unfortunately, I had hard time finding the right size, particularly online.I'm a European 42, maybe even 41.5 for wide shoes, very standard size, both legs same. Ordered 43 for a bigger sock - too small. Returned. Ordered 43.5 - still felt short. Returned. Ordered again, now 44 - too big. They are wide too, so that pair felt really loose. Don't know if I could have painfully break in the 43.5 but I needed something ready to go. Would be much easier if they had a showroom where one can try different sizes. Fits true to size. Amazing boot, i hurt my ankle in trail runners, i switched to this on trial and luckily the boot was stiff enough to remove all ankle pain allowing me to push onwards. I will say be very concious as to the level of sport you intend prior to purchasing these. the stiffness does not make it nice for leisure hikes, this is stricktly a technical terrain or vertical ascent (with tools) boot. there are features in the boot to make it not unberable to walk in so that if your doing a mix of both, its fine to take just this boot; however you will have a very limited ankle range of mobility. the limited mobility is meant to take pressure off your calves during vertical sports. On mount temple (a hike and scramble mountain) there is a bouldering problem, ... MoreFits true to size. This is my first mountaineering boot. I dont think i fully understood what these could offer me in store but after taking them up a few mountains i clearly understand the tool and its usage, despite not being what i initially thought i am extremly happy with my purcahse as they have opened a new world of sports to me.
Well built boot not hot in the summer. The Scarpa is very breathable boots. Not used in cold weather yet but will. I use the boots to work in and I work on Transmission Power Lines. They’ve taken a beating so far and although a little pricey but I’ve been pleased with them. Even enough to buy another pair.
I typically wear a size 10-1/2 to size 11 boot. I started with a size 11 and it was too small all the way around. I returned and got a size 11-2/3 (I think 46 EU) overall it fit much better, but the toe box was still exceptionally tight. I kept this size, but shoved a baseball as deep into the toe box as I could and this worked to make the boot much more comfortable.The boot held up well with strap-on crampons. I typically need to stop and adjust the boot a bit when I begin descending or I'll ram my toes into the front of the boot. No blister issues. This is a good boot for warmer weather mountaineering.
Replacement for my Scarpa Mantra Pro GTX and I absolutely love them .. Scarpa are always ready to wear straight from the box 📦 with no breaking in required.. these were no different. Comfortable, waterproof and toasty .I can't wait to get crampons on these bad boys

I think these things are very subjective, and I would recommend going in store somewhere to try them on to be sure. Your boot should be fitted tight enough that it is snug, but still enough of a small gap for your toes to not get crushed when you are step kicking into glaciers. I had a 47 in LaSportiva, and the 47 seemed to fit best in these as well for me (normally a size 12.5-13 depending on tennis shoe brand). I have very skinny feet, but nonetheless they are larger than average. These seem to fit like a glove and I am eager to test out how well they hold up in harsh conditions. I haven't gotten to climb in these boots yet, but have been a great fit on my break-in hikes. I prefer Scarpa's rock climbing shoes over other brands because they're wider, and the Mont Blancs seem to also be wide enough for my feet. I plan to use these boots for "waterfall" ice cragging in Minnesota after renting a pair last season. These seem to fit the Petzl Lynx crampons well as I've read online, but I won't really know until I climb in them. I ordered a half size (EU) larger than my multi-pitch rock shoes from Scarpa. They're the same size as my old stiff hiking boots.

Here is a quick breakdown of my experience.Performance: Without crampons they held up well on scree, giving me plenty of grip and support both up and down. My toes did brush the front of the boot on the descent but never did they jam up and cause pain. The lacing system works well and keeps the foot locked in. I didn't feel the need to adjust the laces once. If you're uncertain about size I'd recommend going to scarpas website where they suggest that you upsize 1/2 Euro sizes depending on desired fit. I might have fit a 45.5 but didn't find any issue with the 46 and might have had more toe jamming with the smaller size.I can't speak on durability because I haven't had them long enough. Overall I enjoyed these boots.
