Assembly quality is falling

I ordered 8 of the BE365 PLY 619 from one of Schlage's distributors and was upset and disappointed to find that 2 of the units were missing parts and one was unuseable. I have been a locksmith for 18 years and have seen Schlage products change and evolve and skyrocket in price but the worst thing I've noticed recently is terrible assembly quality from the factory. Obviously no one checks the final product for quality and complete assembly. At least I know what to expect from now on. I caution all buyers to check the products carefully before taking them out of the store.

Despite unclear instructions, installation was easy. Lock mechanism works well, fit a standard door without issues. Easy to program, lock, and unlock. I can only give 3 because this product just feels cheap. Everything feels loose and rattles, and the inside thumbturn goes easily 30 degrees in either direction before engaging the actual locking mechanism. It felt so bad that I went back to the store and, with the help of a store worker, tried a couple other of the same lock, they all were approximately the same. I chose this model because it is one of the only ones with physical buttons and no wireless connectivity from a reputable company, but I will probably end up returning it to get something cheaper that doesn't feel like it's falling apart every time I engage ... MoreDespite unclear instructions, installation was easy. I didn’t know that I’d like having a keypad deadbolt as much as I do. Turns out it’s super useful. It’s way easier to lock when leaving the house because I don’t have to dig the key out of my pocket to lock it. My adult daughter who lives 2 blocks away was the one who encouraged me to this because she normally doesn’t carry keys when walks over.2 other things I like are it isn’t wireless and it isn’t a flawed kwikset “smart key” lock. The big reasons to buy from Builders is that all the locks in my order came keyed alike and the prices were good, especially considering that I didn’t have to rekey them myself.I recommend buying Schlage lock sets from Builders. Great selection, better prices that big box stores, and locks keyed alike.

Locking mechanism fails
25 October 2024

I have three of these locks. All three are giving me problems. Replacing the battery helped at first but then that wasn’t enough. I now enter the code and spin the knob several times finally after entering the code 3 or 4 times on one of them I can lock or unlock the door. On another one I can only unlock it by key. The bolt mechanism NEVER engages. That one is 5 years old but not a lot of use on it. I guess these are throw away locks.

Schlage does not honor the 3-Year warranty
19 October 2023

Bought the lock as custom keyed. It stopped working after 1 year. Filed a claim under warranty. Each answer from them takes a week or more. They insist that custom keying is not included under warranty and that I have to accept a differently keyed lock at their choosing. Nowhere in their warranty does it say that a specifically keyed lock will be replaced with a differently keyed one. Which takes the whole sense of custom keying away. We are 6 weeks into the discussion, and I had to resort to legal threats to get any kind of answer from them. Just replaced my Schlage locks with a competitor's.

[Rewarded Review] Always dependable products
29 October 2024

Schlage should always be your first choice in door hardware and locks. Made mistake last week picking up competitors product and horrible installation process and didn’t work. Schlage easily installed and worked beautifully the first time. Trusted brand I will never install anything else in my home. That is all I’ve ever used before. Won’t make a mistake ever again . Always trust Schlage

[Rewarded Review] App is poor but lock is ok
9 December 2023

I upgraded to this lock for the additional Bluetooth features, and was really excited to be able to add the app to my kids phones, and then have a good idea of who was coming and going when. However, the app will not connect from their phones. We are unable to use the codes to get their app to load and recognize lock, so from that respect, it’s pretty worthless. The lock itself seems to work OK but it’s disappointing to pay this much money and not have access to the more advanced features.

[Rewarded Review] Easy to install and use
17 September 2024

I bought the first one about 5 or 6 years ago. At about year 3 when it was really cold out it would have a little trouble opening, the mechanism would hang up. New battery did not help. The following year I took it apart and sprayed a light silicon lubricant into the mechanism. This helped and it worked a couple of years with an occasional respray. This summer the mechanism would only engage after multiple tries so we mostly used the key. From what I can read about the lifetime warranty is in order to make a claim I have to send them the lock and after they evaluate it then maybe it will be covered. Of course while they have it I can’t lock my front door so the warranty is useless. I like the concept so I went to purchase a new one hoping to not use the same brand. ... MoreI bought the first one about 5 or 6 years ago. Unfortunately all my other door hardware is this bright brass and the ones I could find without driving to multiple stores either didn’t come in the color or had motorized deadbolts or touch screens, none of which I want to rely on on a cold Minnesota day. I would not recommend this unless you’re ok with 3 or 4 years of reliable use and you don’t have to hire someone to install it for you.

[Rewarded Review] Great mechanisms, mediocre battery life
22 May 2023

I am the type of person who loses things. Keys, phone, fancy pens, a bottle at the checkout counter. Having keyless entries has been so immensely wonderful - no keys to lose! Though, it is helpful to have the spare as the lock does have a keyed deadbolt option too... this is because when the battery conks out, the spinny lock just spins and spins and spins and you could be stuck outside banging about and hoping for the lock to finally stick - just one more time - or experiencing something similar when the weather gets cold, and really it is quite frustrating. But what's one to do about it, since batteries die, and all that. This keyless entry is smooth, sleek, easy to use and convenient..... just until it's not.

[Rewarded Review] Great upgrade for traveling and pet sitting.
2 December 2023

Been wanting to upgrade for a while. One of our kids bought one for travels and pet sitters so we decided to also. Took all of 15 or 20 minutes to remove old deadbolt and install this one. Painless drop in installation without any modifications. Set up no Brainer. Works flawlessly so far! Highly recommend. Plus used Lowes military discount so awesome value!
