A great little travel set
This is definitely one of those purchases you may be wondering "should i get this?" I can say without disappointment that the paint is great, and it is definitely a cool setup. I do think the travel setup may not be for everyone so if you're basing your purchase just off that alone, try a Schmincke color or two before committing. Definitely one of those "what do you want for your birthday?" kind of products. Suffice to say, I wasn't disappointed. I love it! I can fit four more half pans in the middle and the Schmincke color looks great.... Show more

Best Potter's Pink
Likely the best Potter's Pink from any of the major brands. I performed some sedimentation tests on 7 of the major brands, including this one. Schmincke has the most diversity when it comes to PR233 pigment size, which lends to both its highly granulating texture and beautiful color. Daniel Smith's version had 2nd highest utility in that it had the lowest tinting strength and could essentially be used as a granulation medium. #sweepstakes... Show more

Best Watercolors EVER
My life has been changed by these watercolors! In the past, I used cheaper watercolors and have been searching for a more professional and better quality paint. I had no expectations when I purchased the dot card and WOW! I was blown away! The colors are so smooth and the colors are perfect for my palette. Personally, I do not like granulating paints, so I really enjoy that Schmincke offers granulating colors separate from their standard line of watercolors. I will be replacing my old watercolors with Schmincke watercolors from now on! #sweepstakes... Show more

Clean, brilliant turquoise
Fantastic clean bright turquoise. Compared to Winsor Newton's Cobalt Turquoise, this one is absolutely brilliant. WN's is a darker, more grayed turquoise, also nice and a useful mixing color. But the Schmincke is a great stand-alone color and adds brilliance, especially wet-in-wet. If you're just getting one, this is the one to get.... Show more

Great Subtle Foliage Color
I was planning a watercolor painting with lots of both near and distant foliage. I had a few tubes of Schmincke Horadam paint already and was impressed by the strength and responsiveness of the color. I studied the Jerrys online catalog of Schmincke colors and decided this one could be very useful for me. I chose both this one and Shire Yellow to order expressly for this painting. They are similar colors with Shire Yellow actually being a bit greener and Transparent Green Gold effectively more toward a golden yellow when tinting but even at full strength neither is very dark. I wanted to use these as midtones and lighter tints and I think they worked out great for that. The Transparent Green Gold is mostly in the nearer foliage and the beach area while Shire Yellow ... But I really used both of them all over the painting. These are very useful landscape colors and I will be using them again. This brand is a bit pricey but really no different than any other professional quality watercolors out there.... Show more

Great watercolors but this tube was mostly gum arabic
I use a lot of Schmincke Horadam watercolors and gouache. They make great paints. But the particular tube of Volcano Yellow super granulating watercolor had a problem. As I squeezed out paint for a small area all I got was gum arabic and more gum arabic -- about a teaspoon's worth. This looks like a quality control problem.... Show more

I regret buying this
these colors are already included in the larger set. u would do better to find cheaper watercolors with these pigments in them. the granulation is unspectacular. buying the colors individually would give you two base colors to experiment with. also, there is nothing volcano like about most of the paints in the volcano set. again, I'd buy some warmer red yellow and brown pigments (including some Mars pigments) and try making your own. very disappointing.... The best watercolor set
This is a beautiful watercolor set . Everything is perfect, all the 24 colors are well-thought out, and arrange out nicely on a color wheel . They layer and blend very well. There is a very good and balanced selection of transparent , opaque , granulating and staining colors. 24 colors is a wide range and includes a split primary of all the basic colors plus some convenience colors as well. Most of the colors are single pigment giving rise to very clean , transparent mixes . All of them have excellent lightfastness. This watercolor box is an investment and I am looking forward to making many beautiful paintings with them.#watercolor #watercolorset #schmincke #blicksweepstakes #art... Show more

Very nice watercolors in a great box, but disappointing.
I have wanted to get a palette of Schmincke Horadam Watercolor for a very long time. I really love the quality of the paints and the box was a nice addition to the package. The half pans are filled to the top and the choice of colors goes very well together. There is room to add more colors to your paint collection. The paints themselves are beautiful to work with.I gave it 4 stars because I realized it would be very difficult to use for plein aire. There is not a mixing palette or a travel brush in the box. I will have to figure that out on my own, so I will probably just use it at home.... Show more

Would buy this again but not from Blick
Vary different hue from DS same Color. I prefer the schminkle. I would not however purchase again from Blick as I am in Canada. With the exchange, high shipping costs AND duties to pay, it is more expensive than buying here even with the discount Blick offered. Also, I ordered 4 paint tubes and a board and the box was sooooo big and just stuffed with paper, shipping costs vary according to weight and this was overkill. Would only buy from Blick again when they have better shipping arrangements for Canada. Their customer service is great (can even speak to a live person).... Show more
