However for die hard gamers who play every day multiple hours a day I feel like it is worth it.)- No carrying case- Not enough thumbsticks (Would have been nice to have 4 additional included instead of 2. Forcing you to buy the pack of stick SCUF sales separately. I feel including more would've helped offset the price and not including a case.)This is a very premium feeling controller to me. The buttons all feel way better than the stock XB controller and even the Elite controller (as they should at this price tag).I have had no input issues with any of the buttons or triggers. Which is nice being that I went through 2 Elite controllers prior to this purchase because of mis-presses on the face buttons (Not to mention 2 Geek Squad Warranty replacements on prior Elites for stick drift and another with a double/ triple pressing RB button).The controller does have some heft to it but it is welcomed as it feels more premium in the hands. the grip on the back of this controller is AMAZING. You never feel it slipping at all and if your hands heat up a little or even get sweaty (I am looking at you Warzone nerds in a building camping a Buy Station) it gets even more grip!

As someone coming from the Elite Series 2 controller I can firmly say that the Instinct Pro is definitely my controller of choice for a variety of reasons. Scuf has definitely focused on those small details here that allows the Instinct Pro to set itself at the top of the mountain for gaming controllers.Firstly, right out of the box you can tell that it is a premium controller as the build quality is exceptional. Moving on to actually playing with the controller there are two facets that set this controller apart. The first are the paddles to which I absolutely love the design that Scuf has elected to go with here as it takes a couple days to get used to, but it is so easy to use as it is just one paddle on each side that you rock your finger on instead of two separate paddles on each side. Then secondly are the instant triggers as Scuf advertises depressing the triggers similar to a mouse click when you toggle this setting on to which I couldn`t agree more and definitely gives you that slight advantage in FPS games.All in all, I really think Scuf has checked all the boxes with this controller as they have been in this marketplace for so long that they have thought of everything with this controller from the comfort and customizability of the controller to the actual usability. Being a Scuf product I have no hesitation with the quality of product which can`t be said for the Elite Series 2 with its multitude of build quality issues. I would not hesitate recommending this controller to anyone looking to upgrade from the base Xbox controller as this controller really has all the bells and whistles you could ask for.

I’ve admittedly never used the Elite 2 controller, but from my perspective, the Scuf Instinct Pro is one of the best controllers money can buy. Its only drawback is the expense. It’s not cheap. But if you’re serious about gaming, not professionally, but just enjoy playing, it’s worth consideration if you can spare the dough.IN THE BOXThe packaging was impressive. The box is small, but when you open it up you’re greeted with this foam pad that goes around the sticks to protect it in transit. There’s even this plastic sheet wrap on the bottom of it. I’m not sure what purpose it serves, but it speaks to the care Scuf puts into its products. Other than the controller, you get a nice, long, braided, USB-C cable and two replacement joysticks that are domed (the ones on the controller are concave). These joysticks also have different heights; for example, it’s recommended to use the taller joystick for the right one and the shorter one for the left joystick for FPS games.SETUP/THE CONTROLLER ITSELFFor those that are knew to SCUF or even customizable gaming pads, I wanted to mention how this one in particular works. The first thing you’ll notice is that this is the exact shape of any Xbox One/Series S/X controller you’ve held. So it will instantly feel familiar.You need not fear breaking any plastic tabs that hold the controller together, everything is held together by small, yet mighty, magnets. You can slide a fingernail under the controller cover and it comes off easily (but not so easily that you’ll worry about it falling off on its own. I’ll go ahead and note that you can buy different color cover plates, but I’m not certain of the range of colors or prices. Taking off the cover plate is how you swap out the joysticks. With the cover off, a gentle tug of the sticks and they’ll slide right off.One thing I noticed is that there are no weights with this controller, like you’ll find with the Elite model from Microsoft. I have never thought a controller was too light or too heavy, but that might matter to some of you. Point is, the weight of the controller is the weight of the controller. Anecdotally speaking, I found it a tad heavier than the controller that came with my Xbox, but not so much so as to be distracting; after holding the SCUF for a little bit I honestly couldn’t tell the difference.The other three big features of the controller are the extra paddle buttons (P1-P4) on the back of the controller, the ability to switch the RT and LT triggers to “mouse click” buttons and the ability to map and store 3 different profiles (for the P1-P4 buttons). First, the mouse click buttons are cool and allow a quicker response; it does indeed feel like clicking a mouse. You can change one or both of the triggers by using the switch on the bottom of the controller.Mapping the P1-P4 buttons was a bit tedious to me, primarily because I don’t normally play with those extra paddle buttons. I find the learning curve steep. But the premise is, with the controller on, you cycle between the profiles using the button on the back of the controller and when you want to remap the buttons, you hold the profile button until it blinks (there’s different colors that correspond with each profile) once it’s blinking, you hold the original face button and then one of the P# buttons until it stops blinking. You then repeat the process up to four times for each P button. The only buttons you can’t remap are the Xbox home button, share button, and start button. I’m still learning to use the P buttons so I haven’t created separate profiles, but I can see where the advantage is in having them. I first just need to train myself to use them in general. And I like how you can change the profile with a push of the button on the controller versus going through a convoluted process of menus on the Xbox.The controller is powered by AA batteries, which for me is fine. I used to have some old rechargeable batteries that came with a battery cover with a hole in it (to charge them) but I don’t see that working here as the battery cover is held in place by magnets. But again, I’m okay with using AA batteries as they seem to have a long battery life. I haven’t drained the set of batteries that came with it yet, and I’ve played about 20 hours.Last, I’ve seen aftermarket rubber grips for controllers before and dismissed them as unnecessary. However, this controller has them built in and I’m sold. I’ve never really thought about sweat on my hands when playing video games, but after playing for several hours I came to consciously appreciate the rubber grip. I realize you could spend a fraction of the cost of this controller to get those grips, but the point is, it’s a nice bonus; especially for those who haven’t previously given it a thought.In terms of performance, I found it to be terrific. Playing Call of Duty with the mouse triggers was a bit different than what I was used to, but I could tell the difference in gameplay, I definitely felt like I had a little advantage (I still stink at aiming). It connects to my PC and Xbox flawlessly through traditional methods (Bluetooth on my computer, it paired immediately) and the pairing button on the Xbox console. It functions just like any Xbox controller you’ve used in the past. The difference being the quality and heft of the controller (again, I find the controller packaged with the Xbox to feel “cheap” and not worthy of such a premium console), the paddle buttons and mouse click trigger switches.CONCLUSIONOn some level, the fact that the controller performs the same as the one that comes with the console goes against purchasing it, given its cost. But if you like to customize your devices (i.e. new faceplates) and care about your gaming performance (i.e. different size, shape joysticks, extra paddles, trigger switches) then this is a controller you should seriously consider. It’s by far my favorite controller I’ve used (I’m not getting into the design and shape of Xbox v. Playstation, I have both consoles and love both). But in terms of comfort and features, this one is hard to beat. Its biggest competitor, however, is Microsoft itself which makes the Elite controller. The Elite in some respect beats the SCUF on customization, but that doesn’t mean the SCUF controller shouldn’t be considered.

On the upside, the included batteries have lasted quite a while and I realized that I had been keeping my Switch controller plugged in via its USB cable, so I will likely do the same with this controller. It is my that a rechargeable battery pack is available or I could even use regular rechargeable AA batteries if wireless use is desired.Included in the box with the controller are a couple of different options for the joysticks. The default sticks regular length and feature a concave top. The alternate sticks are a couple different lengths and feature convex tops. I haven’t fully settled on one style (or length) over the other just yet. I kind of wish they were more similar to the PS4 and Switch Pro controllers, with the sort of ring around a convex top. You are able to purchase stick replacements via Scuf’s website, but I didn’t notice any for the Instinct Pro that were like Sony’s and Nintendo’s.Also available in the company’s website are interchangeable faceplates for the controller. I thought this was a pretty cool option for a little customization. Personally, for me they are a little too pricey, but it’s nice these sorts of things are available.For those that are into shooter games, the Instinct Pro features a “hair trigger” toggle for the LT and RT buttons. When reading about it I thought it was kind of silly, but after using it I find it to be a good option. Sometimes a trigger button can be a little spongy and you think you got out a few shots but in the heat of battle you failed to press the button hard enough. Engaging this feature ensures the slightest tap of the button will fire your shot.

The Instinct Pro comes with a USB-C cable to plug in for wired connection, however there is a battery compartment for wireless use, designed for Xbox it does work wirelessly with their consoles. There is a dedicated mute button on the controller right above the headset ports, which offers both the 3.5mm jack or the various headset adapters.Overall the Instinct Pro gives the feel of the Standard Xbox Controller, with a little extra weight and added features. The triggers do have a couple settings you have your traditional pull, with the flip of a switch, their "Instant Triggers" which is an immediate click which they describer as a "short mouse-click action" which I agree with.I am really curious to see how this controller lasts over time, build quality feels solid, their is a nice texturized grip with added comfort, my palms don't get too clammy when using the controller in long sessions, and although it's a different material from the rest of the controller in blends in well with no lifted edges on the grip, it blends in well. Other than adjusting my grip slightly for the rear paddles, the only thing that I had to adjust to was the switches to activate the instant trigger, they stick up a little and have a little point to them. If you by chance need to change the pull quickly on the triger you can easily find them, but it took me a moment to adjust to.Outsite of those couple little quirks that I notice, this is a great controller. If you're a fan of the Official Xbox Controller, this will have a natural feel, but with a couple added feature that take it one step further if you are looking for a Pro Controller. Interchangeable sticks and plates, it will be great for anyone to customize the look or the feel for those looking to get a little creative.

Many times in the past, i've noticed stick drift on my older controllers and in order to fix it, I would need to dismantle the controllers in order to spray some WD40 or garage door grease on the stick joint to agitate micro particles/debris that may be causing the drift. With SCUF controllers, because the faceplate is removable AND/OR the sticks are removable, it makes for correcting stick drift a true breeze unlike the OEM controllers.Overall, the performance of this controller is bar none, and I wouldn't recommend any other controller when it comes to PC or Xbox gaming. No others in the gaming industry does it better than SCUF!

Everything is pretty well plugg-play very easy to map paddles response time is that of a very basic device in the same category honestly only recommend if you’re just buying it for the map of all paddles on the back otherwise, like I said, responsiveness is no more and that of the original device. as far as the aesthetics, and what it comes with great value very easy to enterchange thumb sticks don’t much care for the rear trigger lockout function, because the instant press of the rear trigger lock out is not near enough. I was after functionality and was to a degree somewhat disappointed. if people are going to attempt to make aftermarket devices to replace OEM, they should do more to upgrade the device then just add a few paddles to the back of the controller and then charge to hundred percent more than the original counterpart.

The front faceplate is a very silky and soft matted surface that makes it incredibly comfortable to hold. The rear of the controller handles are covered in a soft rubber texturized finish making it very easy to grip. All of the buttons, triggers, paddles, and thumbticks feel very solid with crisp feedback. I also love the new re-designed paddles on this new instinct pro. They are leagues better than the somewhat obtrusive paddles on the older SCUF controllers. These feel a lot more ergonomic and natural to interact with. There isn't a single component on this controller that feels cheap. I also love the magnetized battery door on the rear of the controller. It's small details like this that make it apparent how much planning and thought went into the design of this product.There's a great deal of customizability with this SCUF instinct pro; not just from a button mapping/profile perspective, but also from a hardware perspective. The front faceplate of the controller is removeable which allows you to swap out the stock faceplate with a plethora of different colored and themed faceplate kits that you can purchase on the SCUF gaming website. You can also swap out the stock thumbsticks with thumbsticks of different shapes and sizes, as well as swap between a hybrid and standard D-pad. Corsair does throw in a pair of extra thumbsticks in the box (one short domed and one long domed) if you're not a fan of the stock concave thumbsticks (which I personally love!). The included 6 ft USB-A to USB type-C feels very high quality with its braided nylon construction and carbon fiber-like tips. If using this wired, 6ft may not be enough but because it's USB type-C (and not some proprietary cable), it's very easy to source a longer a cable.In terms of performance, this controller is flawless. I've always used an Xbox controller for PC gaming as the design and shape has always felt the most comfortable and ergonomic in my hands. In terms of design, the shape and dimensions feel the same as a standard Xbox controller. The sames goes for the weight, the buttons, the d-pad, and the thumbsticks. Connecting this to my PC over bluetooth was incredibly easy. I simply held down the pairing button found right above the Xbox logo and my PC instantly detected the controller. Windows then displayed a prompt asking me if I wanted to connect. I was then launching games and the controller was immediately functional with no hiccups.The controller has three on-board profiles that it allows you to configure. You simply hold down the profile button on the back of the controller until the LED, by the mute mic button, starts blinking. You then simply hold down a paddle and press whatever button you want to map it to. You will see a small white light appear indicating that you've successfully mapped a button. When you're done mapping your paddles, you simply press the profile button again to save your configuration to that profile. I absolutely love how you're able to program buttons on the fly with no software needed. I did this in game multiple times and I can't tell you how great it feels to not have to use an application to do this. The instant trigger feature on this controller is an interesting one but I feel that this play style will come down to preference. You basically toggle little metal levers in the back of the controller (one for each trigger button) and it makes it so that it feels like it "locks" the trigger in place. This makes it so that you can actuate the trigger without having to bottom it out allowing for a faster shot. In real world application, at least for me, I couldn't tell if it actually resulted in quicker shots for me in FPS games. My game performance was the same whether I used the instant trigger feature or not. As mentioned previously, I think this is more of a preference feature. Throughout all the games I played whether it be on steam, battlenet, GOG Galaxy, Origin, etc., the controller was immediately detected. In-game, not once was there ever a disconnection over bluetooth or any type of thumbstick drift. The range was also impressive. I tested playing from 25 feet away from my PC with no connection issues.Overall, Corsair and SCUF has produced the best controller to date in my opinion. For those looking for the most premium build quality and features in an Xbox controller, which also happens to integrate perfectly with Windows, I highly suggest you give this one a try.

I have to say that the Instinct Pro takes it to a whole new level. They call them Instant Triggers and they really are; there’s almost no movement when pushing the triggers on that setting which makes it perfect for FPS games. You can of course also use it in the regular mode, with a quick flick of a switch… well, two switches, one for each trigger. I found that to come in handy while playing certain games actually.The remappable paddles on the back are different than the ones from my previous SCUF controller and both Elite controllers. I’m still deciding if it’s meant for one finger on each side or two, because it’s almost at a 90 degree angle, making it possible, if not more comfortable to hit both paddles with finger. I usually only use one on each side anyway, but it’s nice to have the other one at times as well. The other nice feature is that you have three different profiles for the paddles: FPS (blue), Sport (red) and Racing (green). In addition to that, you can change any button to what you want on any go the three profiles. Pretty neat and the dedicated profile button makes it very easy to do.There’s a mute button that comes in handy while using headsets plugged into the controller, but it will not work with wireless headsets.The controller works wirelessly, just like a regular Xbox controller, unlike most third-party controllers, but if you do prefer a cable, there’s a 6 ft USB-C cable included. Batteries are also included, and the battery lid is magnetic instead of the regular locking mechanism, making it very easy to open and close. It seems like the faceplate locks in-place in a similar fashion; no pushing and sweating necessary. Save the sweating for those Warzone lobbies.The SCUF Instinct Pro is any FPS gamer’s dream. Instant triggers, remappable paddles and interchangeable thumbsticks make this the best controller on the market. It’s also great for racing games, if you use the regular triggers and the racing profile, which changes the paddles to the D-Pad buttons. If you spend a lot of times on your Xbox, this is a well worth investment that will take your excitement and precision to a whole new level - It’s time to level up with SCUF!
