The only (somewhat) downside I’ve had with Scythe is the occasional bad encounter cards. This addresses that to some degree. I like the variety this expansion adds.

I enjoy these new encounters and absolutely LOVE the new "special" encounter options where you can keep certain cards and strategically use them later in the game. I would have loved to have more of those cards as there were only a couple in the whole deck. I also was looking forward to some new artwork for the cards, but some of the art work was repeated. Looking at everything, the new artwork is great and the new type of encounters are amazing, but I just wish there were more of those new things included.

If you like Scythe then these are a good addition to have. Scythe is a strategy heavy game and some of these cards are more influential than the cards that come with the original game. Meaning that they can affect your strategy and add a bit of chance to the game. This addition helped to mix things up a bit, making Scythe feel fresh again to our party.

If you love Scythe, play it often, think it's great you'll appreciate this upgrade. I would say this is quite possibly our number one game of all time, so we have slowly upgraded as much of it as possible. We play it often enough that we've gone through all the base game event cards and wanted more for variety. The art on these is still amazing and fabulous and many bring in ties to Wind Gambit which is fun. It's more of the same of what you are used to, so again I will mostly recommend this for very frequent players of the base game and those who want to upgrade their game to get even more enjoyment out of it. For the average Owner who plays Scythe less often, it's a personal choice then, if you like upgrading and having everything for a game you fit the target ... MoreIf you love Scythe, play it often, think it's great you'll appreciate this upgrade. For the average Owner who plays Scythe less often, it's a personal choice then, if you like upgrading and having everything for a game you fit the target audience for this as well. Otherwise I won't say this is necessary or game changing in any way, the variety in cards is already there with the base game so this is just for fun or wouldn't be needed at all for other players. If there were ever a new bunch of Factory cards I could get my hands on that would be in my opinion a more almost required purchase.
There's not much to be said about the expansions for Scythe except that if you enjoy Scythe, and the games are feeling a bit repetitive, get the expansions. They help revitalize the fun in the game. Encounters specifically has been fun in the area of selecting... Encounters! (Sorry if that's too cheesy)
A great little expansion for scythe that adds some more variety to your encounters. There are some different types of cards that make things a little bit more interesting, such as ‘face down until objective is completed’ type cards and so on. I would recommend it to everyone who owns the game.
Scythe Encounters provides 32 new cards to be added to, or replace, the encounters found in the base game of Scythe. These cards offer events that can drastically change the game. They offer items that can greatly improve a players goods, forces, income, combat strength, and popularity to a greater level than the base game encounters. That is the main theme of this deck which is very overpowered outcomes. An example of this is a player obtaining 9 coins, or 5 popularity, by skipping their next turn. Another great addition is additional beneficial actions that may be used later. This involves players holding onto a card until they are able to play it. An example of this is a player being able to teleport to any mine or tunnel on the board when they choose to discard the card. This expansion makes encounters fun and enticing as players will want to obtain these new powerful cards before they are all taken. If this sounds like too much, they can easily be shuffled into the base encounter cards to make it only a possibility that an overpowered card can be found. This is a good addition to the game that can make encounters even more interesting.
The use of these cards changes the game quite radically. It generates some fun situations, but it definitely affects play balance. I tend to seek out encounters much more when using these cards, especially if I am behind in the game, in hopes of finding a rescue. If you are serious about your strategy when playing Scythe, you probably won't like the random element the cards introduce. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more casual game of Scythe, they are fun to play with. A good addition, but not for use all the time (IMHO).
Too many of the encounter cards have very generous effects that often throw the game to one faction or another. We played with it a few times before realizing it just didn't make any sense. Recommend against this expansion. Great art, great ideas, just feels incompatible with the rest of the game. You might add a popularity/money cost to some of the really excellent ones re-balance the game, but we didn't get that far.
We first bought little scythe being told this game took a bit to pick up. Loved little scythe so much that we got Scythe which greatly expanded the rules and components of the game. the family together (ages 24-65, five of us) Learned together and loved the strategy that the game pushed. We slowly began to buy other components in the expansion, and the broken token set to help organize all the components and pieces. I would easily suggest this game to others to play. complications with rules can easily be learned by watching YouTube video tutorials, or reading up online any questions you have.
