Absolutely nothing bad to say about it. Sure, it's not vital to gameplay and doesn't technically add any new functionality to the game, but it's quite lovely to play on the big version of the board if you happen to have twelve dollars and some extra table space. I got it for my partner and now he only plays Scythe using the large version of the board. You get to appreciate the board's art a bit more easily, and have more space for all your units and resources. The airship expansion can make a Sycthe game quite crowded, so the larger board is especially nice for that, and almost certainly worth it if you're a person who enjoyed the game enough to also get the Wind Gambit expansion.

Scythe is a fun board game but with 5 or 6 players it can be cramped around the standard-size board. This expansion board works with the back side of the standard board to create a larger map for players to use. Worth it for the price.

I know what you're thinking, "Am I really about to buy a single panel of a trifold board for an already obnoxiously large board game?" I once was like you. But you must ask yourself another, more important question, "Do I love Scythe with all my heart?" If the answer is yes, then you will realize the importance of this purchase. In truth, this is an extravagance. It's not necessary to play the game, and it will not change anything severely. However, if you've already picked up The Wind Gambit or Invaders from Afar and have started having 5+ player games, it is a very helpful addition. Big components fit better on the board and everyone is spaced out much more evenly. So long as it is, prepare to live your alternate history European steam punk dreams. If you're not playing a lot of Scythe, then this probably isn't for you. But if you have dedicated hours to it already, you'll begin to wonder how you ever played with the smaller board.

If you're reading this review you already should know what Scythe is, if not then probably don't bother with this product until you do. This board is an add on to the board game scythe that makes the board a little bigger, while not increasing or altering the number of hex spaces. In a game with more players this could be helpful because the board can get a little crowded, but four or fewer players and this board is probably not necessary. It is an okay board and maybe necessary for truly large games (5-7 players) but before that it is actually less appealing to use. The break between boards isn't going to be perfect so you'll probably be well aware where one board ends and the next begins. Worse yet, if your table isn't perfectly flat or your board is at all warped ... MoreIf you're reading this review you already should know what Scythe is, if not then probably don't bother with this product until you do. Worse yet, if your table isn't perfectly flat or your board is at all warped then the connection will be even worse. Bottom line, if you aren't playing games with a lot of players and need the extra space then you probably won't find yourself using this board at all. Otherwise you probably already know if you need it.
Only 4 stars as this is not an essential expansion. You will be able to play Scythe on the board that comes with the game. Even if you add all the expansions, it is still possible to use the original board, which is by the way huge on its own. This extension just makes it even bigger and let's the art (which is beautiful) shine even brighter. I mean all those small elements like villages and building drawn on the board just pop right in your face. But remember, the total map with this extension becomes HUGE and you need a HUGE table to play it.
Didn't realise how big a difference this board extension would make. Just having that little bit more space in each hex allows for easier movement around the map. It does make this big game that much bigger though so beware if you only have a small table.
The Scythe board game has two sides. Ones is the standard size that has everything on it, and the other side is a blown up version of the board with much more space for units and resources. However it's not the full board. Because it's so big, about 1/4 of it is missing. That is what this item does, it provides the last 1/4 of the board you need. Once we played with the bigger board size, we never went back to the standard. Its not ideal that you have to pay more for this board expansion (that is all it does, is complete the bigger board) but its worth it.
This is must have for this game, especially if you use the expansions. Your Scythe board has two sides, the regular size and the large tile size. You need this extension to use the large tiles. Many more figures fit. This board is the same quality and thickness as the main board. It will also fit in the box with the core game. Ive included some pictures to help. I use this on a 60 round table and four people can play comfortably. This is certainly needed for groups of 4 or more and airships. I really do think it should have come this way.
Usually play with 3-6 people - nice to have the extra space in the hexes, otherwise can get a little crowded with for factions on the board. Warning - with this extension it is now a BIG board, so need a BIG table to go with it - not just for the board but also the faction mats etc which go round it. Quality is consistent with the rest of the Scythe game, which is to say its very good indeed. Scythe is our favorite game right now, and is likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future. Glad I bought the expansion board.(and the metal money, and the extra cards etc etc - did I say that I liked this game?
When I purchased this for my sons, I wasn't clear about the purpose of it. I thought it expanded the board with additional hexagonal territories for additional players. Actually, after opening the game and this accessory, we found that you flip the game board over to the backside and add this extension to create the exact same board on a slightly larger scale. The larger hexagons can hold more game pieces in each one, which of course would be necessary with more players on the board, but do not add anything different to the game board. It doesn't add variation to the game or any more of a challenge to strategy. We prefer the larger scale, as it just makes the board easier for players to see and reach. In my opinion, I think they should have just made the game board ... MoreWhen I purchased this for my sons, I wasn't clear about the purpose of it. In my opinion, I think they should have just made the game board that size originally rather than making this as an additional expansion piece. So if you can live with a slightly smaller playing board, you may want to pass on this extra purchase.
