I am a professional soundman. I've been mixing live sound for almost 30 years. At my current gig, I mix 4-7 bands per night. It's just me. I set 'em up, and knock 'em down all night with no stage crew. I work with a LOT of different gear every weekend. Weaknesses get revealed quickly. The SM58 has a legendary and impeccable reputation. It has been the Industry Standard for 40 years.PeriodJust make sure you buy from an authorized Shure dealer because at least HALF of all Shure mics in existance are Chinese counterfeits. I repeat . . HALF of all Shure microphones are Chinese counterfeits.btw, I own more than 100 microphones. The SM58 is not my first choice. I'm a Shure Beta 58a guy. It's a step up from the SM58. In the heat of battle, this mic is what I rely on. I own 14 Beta 58a mics and 2 SM58 mics.Sennheiser makes decent mics too, but I find that they are too crisp at the top end, so female vocalists should avoid a Sennheiser and go with an SM58 instead. Still, Sennheiser is a very useable mic. Third place goes to Audix. All mics I've mentioned cost less than $170, and some are under $100. A used SM58 goes for about $65. Make sure it's an authentic Shure. You can mail it to Shure and they will let you know for no cost.

This mic is being used on stage by many A-list acts for a reason. Best vocal mic at this price point. Clean mids, smooth highs. Much better definition than the venerable alternative. Solidly built and it looks cool.

It's an amazing microphone. The build is very durable, the body is solid and the grill doesn't give or dent when a decent amount of force is put on it. The sound as well is fantastic; it doesn't need a lot of EQ and can be used for recording as well for live performance. A pop filter or a foam windscreen is needed though as the built-in foam doesn't work the best. I can't recommend it enough especially for the price.
Does well as a vocal mic. I use it on a desk boom mic arm with a mechanical keyboard with oetemu browns. It does not pick them up over discord. Nor does it pick up much of any table tapping. Recording wise it gives a nice clear recording with a bit of sizzle in the high end.
Bought this mic when my personal SM58 was broken (I own 7 SM58’s as I own a large PA system) the V7 sound great, the pickup patted requires you to be right on the mic but when you are it sound fat and full. The tight pattern certainly reduces picking up spill from other stage sound, drums, amps, which means you get more vocal.
Overall:I have been performing and producing music full time for about 20 years... thousands of shows. And this mic has blown my mind a little bit.I am a huge Audix OM3/OM5 fan... that will not change. But I am also now a big fan of the sE V7.The first time I sang through the V7 I instantly realized that it is a nearly perfect mic for me... certainly not for everyone. I don't find it works great on louder, less dynamic singers, but for quieter more controlled/dynamic voices, it has become my go-to when I might normally be reaching for a Beta 58A or Audix OM5.For me, as a singer this is the mic I have been waiting for my whole life. Drummer singing on Beta 56 kept asking me to pull back the the other background singer on the SE V7 in her drum wedge. This mic cuts through.This microphone is great out of the box and on vocals. Stand mounted and artist is consistent with distance from mic its great. Handheld it needs to be used properly or proximity effect is present but manageable.Quality:This microphone is built very well, one of the reasons I looked at it. SE Electronics boast a indestructible microphone and have a car drive over it in the Demo Video. They have it on a grill cooking it. Not sure how it taste but it sounds great!The SE V7 has not been around as long as the industry standard to have decades of durability under its belt but I believe it will last a long time. It feels good and well built, solid and has some weight to it. Looks great and sounds great, 5 stars!Value:The SE V7 is a hands down winner in the $99.99 Dynamic price range and above that! This mic will outperform many microphones in that price range and above. I have many microphones because of the different talent that play at SLBOH. Vocal microphones alone, Shure SM86's, Beta 58's, SM58's, Beta 56 for drummer vocals. Telefunken M81's, Sennheiser 945's, Blue enCORE 200's.Is the SE V7 a SM86, M81 or a 945? No and it doesn't cost nearly as much either but I take it over those others! As extra-freq microphone, this is awesome. Near noise floor, a tiny wide-band buzz. similar to a Shure sm57 I tried. Have tried filtering many things...seems to be magnetic thing. Fine for stage or podcast, not sure on voiceover. I EQ-d a Senn E835 to flatten it..that will do for now. Maybe some mu-metal shielding, guys? Other mics are OK,
I have used a SM 58 for years but it didn't cut through the mix well because I have a softer voice. This microphone cuts through better than the share IMO. You have to sing direct into it because it doesn't pick up the surroundings well which is nice. Noticed many venues use this mic now, I dig it!
