The Camp Self Inflating mat is a durable option for the adventurer who wants quality and some serious bang for their buck. Utilizing the multi function valve, this mat deflates incredibly fast and there's no fighting re-inflation during pack up. Delta Core-V technology removes weight and bulk without compromising comfort and the durable face fabric will withstand some good tough adventuring. It's your back to basics, no frills, sleeping mat that offers great comfort for your backpacking adventures. Delta Core-VIn the lighter models, Delta Core-V vertical coring technology is applied to remove 20 % of the weight and bulk of the mat's polyurethane (PU) foam. Sea to Summit uses sophisticated pressure-mapping data to define body contact areas which becomes the blueprint for the distinctive graduated core pattern. In body contact areas where extra warmth and support is needed - shoulders, hips and feet - the vertical core holes are smaller. In the less critical areas, more foam has been removed to minimise the weight and packed size. Delta Core-V technology is used in the Ultra Light SI and Camp Mat SI models.

#1 pad for my purpose

This ended up as my top pick after many hours of looking at every sleeping pad on the market that I could find that met these specifications and was under $140. In short... it is compact, has foam and air for r-value - comfort - and compactability, it is 3 inches thick which is enough so you don't touch the ground, it is long enough for a 6 ft person and a pillow, it has a high r-value of 4.3 which is good for most temperatures year-round (except perhaps snow). It seems fairly durable and does not make a lot of noise when sleeping on it as some other brands do. It seems fairly durable and does not make a lot of noise when sleeping on it as some other brands do. It is wide enough to lay with your hands at your side but not extra wide. It is fairly lightweight and can support a lot of weight. It can be used for camping and backpacking (although it is the widest (when packed) pad I would recommend for backpacking). I do not like pads that when packed are longer than your backpack... I like this pad because it is not long when packed. It has a 3 in 1 valve for fast inflation/deflation, inflating without deflating when you stop, and deflating without inflating when you stop. You can buy a separately sold compatible air pump sack by Sea to Summit for inflation without electricity or breathing a lot... and using it instead of your breath introduces less moisture into the pad - which can lower the r-value and cause mold.Few downsides:I would like it more if it was less wide and overall smaller - both in regards to packed dimensions... but that may be difficult to design and use materials that result in a higher cost. I like that is is wide instead of long.It is the most difficult pad I have rolled when packing it up... but it is still doable.I would have liked if it came with a bag/sack that could easily be secured to the outside of most backpacks - and if it was rain-proof.If it wasn't obvious this in not the pad for ultralight backpackers, but if you want these specs under $140 this is compact and the #1 I found.(The next best pad #2 which I will not list here is about 2 inches less wide and 2 inches wider when packed - it however is less wide unfolded and and unnecessarily thick) (a top pick but further down on the list is very compact however it is noisy and has an unreliable R-value due to its design)

Overall I am very happy with product. It is what it advertised as. Though bulky and heavy it works great for canoe camping with is the majority of what I do. Inflates quickly and requires few breaths to fill. Overall the comfort of the pad is great and succeeds expectations. I have not had a chance to test it in cold weather conditions as of yet but I am happy with the product thus far. I have found that the self inflating function has worn out after many uses (50+) but I would still suggest this pad for someone who is looking for a pad were weigh is not a concern.

Easy comfort!

Here's a tip for inflating it the first time: I opened the valve and laid it flat for 12 hours, closed the valve and squished the air around to open up the flatter spots, then re-opened and left for 12 more hours... I did this inside in the AC, after the first day, I closed the valve and set it in the sun for 10 min. That expanded the air inside, and warmed up the foam so it relaxed a little, and now it self inflates like a champ! Not sure I'd recommend it to side sleepers that weigh more than my ~190Lbs, my hip is JUST short of grounding out on my side.

Excellent body for its size
30 July 2021

I purchased the regular sized, rectangular pad. Typically I like a firm bed and just needed something to soften the bones a bit. The first night I slept on this I decided it would e plenty good for someone that values s softer matress. Fortunately, you're able to tune the firmness by topping off the air at the valve. Also, the valve is an excellent design that allows for easy inflation and assisted deflation both.I got this for car camping and it packs down great for my needs. I can imagine it being too bulky for lightweight backpacking though.

Excellent so far!
13 September 2022

I'm not a regular camper and I don't have a lot of experience with sleeping mats beyond an MEC double Reactor 6.5 that I purchased a few years ago. The valve on this mat is BY FAR a better design. It inflates easily, and even more importantly: deflates (and stays that way) easily as well! I'm mostly a side sleeper, F/5'6"/145 lbs, and have slept comfortably each time I've used it. Price was perfect for the amount of use I will be getting out of it.

Good for all seasons?
9 June 2022

Only used this mat a couple times so far. Pillow lock tech is great when combined with sea to summit pillow. It is more affordably priced than comparable mats. Its heavier than many so if ultralight is what one is seeking this mat is not preferred. I am optimistic that the R value makes this a great mat for someone who is backpacking or camping in many conditions and is okay trading off less warmth in winter while carrying little extra weight in summer instead of having multiple sleep mats

Good for military
1 February 2022

Got this mat to replace the standard issue foam ones, but wanted something that doesn't stand out too much, and is tough enough to not be damaged by being used outside with no tent, or people stepping on it in their boots, while also being the same size or smaller as the issued mat.Rolled up without a fold (so longer but narrower than its default bag) it's slightly smaller than the standard issue mats (good although slightly heavier).Definitely a lot warmer and more comfortable! So far seems to be pretty resistant to being walked on (and you can let some air out so it deforms easier) plus it comes with a repair kit (though I wouldn't like to try in the field).Pretty quick to pack up and put away.

Great functionality with a small packed size
12 July 2021

We were looking for something to put on top of our cots to make them slightly more comfortable and this is a winner! We were hesitant to buy this because of the lack of reviews but I'm glad we went for it. The instructions say that you need to blow it up the first time you use it and let it sit for a day or two inflated. After that it does self inflate a bit but honestly, I haven't waited for it yet. It's only a few breaths to get it inflated. The inflate/deflate valve works awesome (remove the valve and flip it over to switch modes) so packing up is a breeze. A big foam pad would be more comfortable but the small packed size is really convenient!

Solid and warm
14 November 2021

For a small packed size, this mat packs a punch. When inflated to full, it's very solid but you can also soften it by letting some air out (which is easy to do in small increments). I've now slept on this on a few trips and it absorbs the minor bumps on the ground quite nicely. The coldest night was about -2C temperature and to me this seems to be the lower end of comfortable range for this mat without a space blanket or other insulation (but I do prefer to sleep warm so your mileage may vary).I'm looking forward to many more nice hikes with this one.

You get quite a bit for the price
17 August 2022

As one of Sea to Summit's cheapest models it is quite feature rich and comfortable. The compression stuff sack is impressive and I love the full width on it. I don't think I would purchase a "self inflating" mat again as packing it takes several extra steps and the compression sack is needed to minimize the extra bulk. I will however buy another Sea to Summit sleeping mat!
