This is unfortunately quite difficult to get back into the stuff sack due to the fold-over brim's stiffness. If the stuffsack was just a hair bigger it would have saved some hassles. Also, this is bigger than I imagined. This won't fit in an underseat bike carrier if also carrying other items. The pack is still significantly smaller than comparable daypacks. Providing packed dimensions listed under details would be helpful to the next buyer. I gave it 4 stars because the pack itself is quite useful... only issue is with size and the packing.

I originally bought this pack as a functional element in my Adventure Bike riding to take my version of the sport in the same direction as my minimalist kayaking and my back country climbing trips. It became so much more for my day-to-day short trip rides to the store, to the beach and just out pleasure riding. Stuffs, easily, into my tank bag and holds a crazy amount of miscellany. Glad I picked it up.

I love to bring this backpacking to use as a dry bag and day pack. This only thing is that it is uncomfortable with more than a couple pounds in it, EXCEPT if you add a chest strap it carries much more weight comfortably. I bought a chest strap for $10 from Amazon and added it, and now I can carry 3 liters of water plus snacks and a jacket comfortably in it. Sea to Summit could really improve the usefulness of this pack by adding a small chest strap.

I purchased the Ultra-Sil Dry Day Pack specifically for an extra bag to use during backpacking trips. I will often set-up a backcountry base camp and take day hikes out from there. On a recent trip into the Enchantments I used this pack to carry food, water, and extra clothing while exploring the area. Despite the lack of waist straps, it was quite comfortable. However, the shoulder straps began to dig a bit when I filled water bottles and carried 4L back to camp. Very light weight, easy to fit anywhere in your pack (could double as a dry bag for clothing or sleeping bag stuff sack). My only complaint was that it was a little difficult to get back into its stuff sack...I just needed a few more millimeters of space (or a bit more patience). I will pack this bag with ... It feels high quality. It is scary thin. It is not something I would risk setting on any kind of rough ground regularly if I wanted it to last. Packing it into its supplied fist sized carry sack is challenging and will unnecessarily wear out the waterproof seams sooner than just using it. It's about the size of a hand towel, you can cram it into any crevice with ease and less compression on the seams than they stuff sack.
My wife and I have purchased 4 of these bags over the years and for us serves a great purpose. We backpack the world 6 months a year and when we leave our hotel / apartment temp base we take this small pack with us as a day pack for water and snacks. Perfect grocery bag when you travel, takes no size or weight and fully waterproof. Would not travel without this small day pack.
My wife and I just finished a 3 week tour of South America. The Ultra- Sil Dry Day Pack came in very handy due to its compact, lightweight and waterproof design! We utilized this Day pack in Peru, Ecuador while hiking and exploring the Andes, Machu Picchu, Cotopaxi, Quito, and the Galápagos Islands. We highly recommend this Day Pack for serious and recreational hikers!
I wish I had a photo but don’t. Too busy hiking, riding, climbing! It is idiotically light and yet very tough, and waterproof! In the past month we were fortunate enough to take two trips with the pack. Arizona for a week and then Peru and Bolivia for 3 weeks. This pack has been in that time to the top of Flat Iron, and more impressively to the World’s Highest Road Cerro Uturuncu in Bolivia, the World’s largest salt flat, Uynui, the World’s most.dangerous Road in Bolivia, the world’s highest lake, Titicaca, the World’s longest mountain bike descent, and many other hikes and rides. I had been carrying around a pack that weighed 2 pounds, was not comfortable, not waterproof and not possible to stuff into a pocket when not using. It’s impossible to articulate just how well this simple bag functions. I was really wondering about the straps when I ordered it, they seemed to minimal to be comfortable on the shoulders, but that was not the case, I barely knew I had it on even after 8 hours on the trail.
I've had this little pack for approximately two years and the pack in itself has more than satisfied it's design intent and I am very happy with it's versatility and performance to date.HOWEVER .. and a HUGE one at that ..The STUFF SACK!!!!Whoever designed (sized) the Stuff Sack, appears to have had absolutely NO intention of EVER using it, themselves. on a regular basis, for it's intended purpose.IT IS JUST TOO SMALL FOR 'COMFORTABLE' PRACTICAL USE !!!Earlier this evening, I managed to eventually 'cram' the Pack into the Stuff Sack, accompanied by the appropriate @#$%^&* (it seems to pacify my angry finger tips .. I'm 72 and the hands are not as tolerant as they were of abuse as in my younger days). I then put it into the Water Bottle Holder of a Waist Pack I ... On my return route tomorrow, I will pop into my local Supermarket, pick up some supplies and pop them into the pack. The so-called 'Stuff Sack' .. for me is almost useless for that purpose. I use it mainly, when wearing the pack, as an internal pouch for my Candy Bar Outdoor Mobile Phone. To me, this Sack appears to have been more of a 'Key Ring Sales Exercise' dreamed up by the Marketing Department than a practical worthy supplement to a good product. A case of a lack of Attention to Detail spoiling the Recipe.I do not see this Stuff Sack holding up under regular use and thus have sourced another holder for this purpose.I respectfully suggest that perhaps those sitting around your Boardroom Table actually use such products themselves.Sincerely .. I bought this in Adelaide before 2-5 day hikes across Tasmania and New Zealand. This was especially useful on Tassie's Overland Track in which I had my 65-liter pack for the 5 day hike and all the mountain-climbs were 1-3 hours long sidetrips. That was the perfect use-case for this bag- especially given the waterproofness of the bag. I'd drop my 30 pound pack and grab some snacks, water, first aid, and rain jacket into this Dry Pack and climb Barn Bluff, Mount Ossa, and others. Then again, I've never run in to rain with this bag, but it often makes my back very sweaty- it will get sweaty if it's sunny and/or 60F and above. I wouldn't dock points because that's what you should expect with a minimalist waterproof bag, but it's worth knowing. It's nice having the peace ... I wouldn't dock points because that's what you should expect with a minimalist waterproof bag, but it's worth knowing. It's nice having the peace of mind that if I did run in to rain that my food/gear would stay dry inside. When I get very sweaty I take this off my back and carry it by hand, usually not too bad of a problem.I wouldn't fill all 22-liters of this bag with medium or heavy objects. About 5 pounds is the maximum comfortable weight. The extra volume would be useful for a fleece or poncho though. I've looked at 9-liter summit packs and with those you'd hit the limit before you could consider taking a fleece. After moderate/occasional use over 1 year, I have a couple small pinhead-sized holes on the bottom of this bag, likely due to putting it down on rough rocks. There is also a 5-inch rip at the top due to my hanging the bag carrying about 5 lbs on the clip buckle, which shouldn't be done as it's not made to hold weight. Use the shoulder straps or loop to hang this up.I'm happy with this bag, however I'd consider the non-siliconized ultra-sil day pack, the one with a zipper instead of the roll pack. I suspect it would have adequate water resistance but not cause the same sweaty-back issues as this.I'm looking forward to using this for long x-country skiing days.
