Sea to Summit Ultralight Insulated Mat - Large
You want a comfortable nights sleep and it all starts with your mattress! Wake up refreshed from a good nights sleep on your Sea To Summit Ultralight Insulated Air Mat! Sea to Summit have not only created a lightweight and small pack-volume mattress, but one that is in their opinion the most comfortable sleeping mattress available. The Ultralite series features Air Sprung Cells which conform to the shape of your body, creating even dispersion of pressure across the mattress and giving you a comfortable nights sleep. Keeping you toasty warm at night, Exkin Platinum thermal technology reflects radiant heat back to you while you sleep. Additionally, Thermolite insulation lofts up inside the Air Sprung Cells preventing convective heat loss from your warm body to the cold ground. Your mat includes an Airstream Pump, integrated into the stuff sack, making for quick and easy inflation. The multifunction valve also provides for fast inflation, deflation and also the ability to fine tune to your personalised comfort. A repair kit is also included for easy puncture repair while you are out camping.

I chose this after months of research as it seemed to offer the best compromise between all my demands. This replaced my lattice-style Klymit O-zone for backpacking because I switched my sleeping bag for a quilt and needed an insulated pad under me. My practice with backpacking equipment is to get as light as possible without the extent of livability sacrifice often associated with ultralight. There are lighter pads out there for sure, but this one is a couple inches wider than the usual 20" which ups the comfort value for me a lot; it's less noisy than any other air matt that employs heat-reflective insulation (there is no additional noise from the insulation in this one, which was mandatory for me); it is price-comparable if not slightly less expensive, and only ...Ā MoreI chose this after months of research as it seemed to offer the best compromise between all my demands. It's a thin pad, so in order to get the full comfort, this matt really needs to be inflated to maximum firmness in my opinion, which I don't think is possible to do with your lungs because of the flat inflation valve; therefore, the inflation sac / carry bag comes along and that's another 2+ ounces.Inflated to max, I can feel the ground sitting or leaning on it or as I change positions, but not lying on it. I'm 5'5" and around 130-135. I slept well on it once I accepted that I couldn't settle into my normal stomach-sleeping position. Back and side positions feel fine, but the narrowed-out shoulder width on this women's specific pad means that elbows pointing outward from the body or arms spread away from you will be on the bare cold ground. If you are a stomach sleeper who tucks your arms beneath your chest, you'll be fine. For car camping where weight isn't an issue, I'd go for something far more comfortable, but for backpacking I think this is right on point, especially if you value width over thickness. As for warmth, I think this is truly a 3-season pad and look forward to using it on chillier ground.

I now have 2 extra smalls. As far as I can tell, this is the lightest inflatable around: it is certainly a major improvement on any other mat I've owned. The XS is more than long enough: I can't understand why you'd want a longer mat for hiking. Whilst it is thin, these are thick enough to do the job, are ridiculously easy to inflate and very fast to pack up. The yellow colour gets dirty quickly (very small matter), and whilst insulated, these mats are still detectably colder than SI mats. They are moderately slippery and can move around a bit. The noise is HIGHLY over-rated: I don't know how people even notice it! Seven uses, all bush camping (no prepared campsites) and no problems at all so far. I would definitely buy another (I just did! Wifey now has one too). ...Ā MoreI now have 2 extra smalls. As far as I can tell, this is the lightest inflatable around: it is certainly a major improvement on any other mat I've owned. We are currently using these pads in our hitchhiking round the world tour, they are very comfortable for sleeping and easy to inflate but after 2 years of travel, they start to have many holes in the middle of the "air sprung cells". In the beginning i though the holes came from some kind of thorn and i fixed them with the adhesive patches provided, but the pads kept deflating during the night. This morning i inflated my pad and filled the "inter cells" with water to see if any air bubbles would appear and i just found 5 more holes, always in the 'inter cell" parts of the pad so i am sure the holes are not from thorns but from a default of the fabric. I always find myself on the hard floor in the middle of the night. I would recommand for light weight and comfort but not for durability.Anything SeaToSummit could do to help?

Previously borrowed ultralight mat from two other brands and STS wins in 1) debunking the myth about thickness and confirm comfort comes from air spring. In addition, if the air pad 'grid' is vertical, the side size would be compromised. The mat spec is when moderately inflated. So if you inflate all the way, the size would be smaller than the spec online. I'm 5'7" and definitely need large size after trying both, for both the length and width. If you use quilt, the noise would be more than a quality sleeping bag, but still much better than the other brand's potato chips effect, because STS insulation is fundamentally different.Love the color. And plan to pair it with a closed foam one for the winter.Plus I have been sleeping on it everywhere in the house. Iāve used this pad on backpacking trips in Utah, North Shore Minnesota, Patagonia, and Washington. Itās super light, packs extremely small, and doesnāt take more than 5 minutes to set up. Iām a side sleeper and found that the cells distribute my body weight so that I donāt bottom out. Even though the R value isnāt super high, it protected me from the cold ground in 20 degree weather. The only reason why Iāve taken off a star is because Iāve only had it for 2.5 years, using it a total of ~10 times and it already is leaking air and keeping the inflation. For the price, I would expect it to last longer.
I've paired this sleeping mat with the the North Face Stormbreak 1 for a go-to solo bikepacking kit, and when inflated the Large size fits perfectly inside of the tent. While there are more expensive and potentially more comfortable options, this has been excellent thus far. It provides an appropriate amount of comfort and great value for the price, especially when purchased using Altitude Sports' membership program. As an added bonus, the mat packs down to a highly manageable size and the exterior case doubles as a manual pump/inflation toolāāmake sure to test the length in your tent once the mat is inflated, as it is longer when deflated. Took this out on a 5 night backpacking trip. It was a really comfortable sleep (no aching hips the next morning) and it was a much quieter than my last air mattress. Iām 5ā4ā and I got the short mattress. I had plenty of room. I also noticed a difference in temperature. We backpack in the same park at the same time of year (lows in the 40s and 50s). I didnāt expect to notice a difference but this air mattress stayed a lot warmer than my previous mattress which made for a more comfortable nights sleep.
I purchased this product for a trip to Alaska where I would be on the move daily and living out of a backpack for a week. For this reason I needed a sleeping pad that was light, comfortable, and decently warm. I have had good experiences with this company's products in the past and I decided to give it a shot. In the end, I did not regret this purchase.I found this product very light and compact and I think it performed as well as I expected. I did enjoy that it has an R-value of 3.1, which is pretty good for something that weight. I found that it did keep me warm at night when paired with a good sleeping bag, even in below freezing temperatures. This product is advertised as being perfect for spring or fall camping, and I agree! I also really enjoy the built in valve system and have found that there is minimal deflation that occurs at night. The only thing I really have a potentially negative comment on is the stuff sack which can be used to inflate the pad. It is a neat idea, but in practice I found it to be kinda silly. I found it much faster and had no issue inflating it by mouth.Overall, great product! I intend on taking this on camping trips year round.
I used this mat for the entirety of my 2600 mile thru hike of the PCT. I am 6'1" and I ended up using a size regular as the large would not fit well in my Big Agnus Fly Creek HV UL 2. I patched 9 punctures in the desert (700 miles). After the desert (north of Kennedy Meadows) I never had another puncture. This is just a fact of the desert and is unavoidable with inflatable mats in my experience. I found it easy to patch and the patches held up perfectly. The comfort and convenience made it well worth it to me. I looked forward to sleeping on this thing every night! Coldest night was close to 10F. I never felt uncomfortably cold on the mat even through I used this in combination with a Enlightened Equipment quilt, so I was sleeping directly on the mat. I finally said goodby to this mat after I finished the trail and mold appeared on the inside. Lesson learned to dry it out properly after extended use. Only complaint is that the plug sometimes became hard to insert/remove, but this was inconsistent. Not sure it it could have been a temperature/altitude thing with the type of plastic used.
Once I hit a certain age, my lightweight Thermarest pad just wasnāt doing it anymore: not enough cushion, too cold for fall camping, etc. I passed it off to the young āun and splurged on this baby. In short, this was the game changer I was looking for. It is so lightweight and compact, yet set-up was a breeze. It was ample big enough (I got a large because I roll around a lot), super quiet, and WARM. I tried it out on a 40 degree night and was so toasty. Even the dog figured out where the warm spot was and squished on with me. Speaking of which, I was terrified the 92 lb Lab puppy would put a hole in it, but it was very durable. In short, buy it. It is worth every penny if you love to camp!
