Compact, works well, but needs packing protection

I purchased an X-Bowl / X-Mug pair to save backpack packing space. I was initially impressed with the function of both... they are fairly rigid in use and compact down nicely... but both show damage from packing & carrying after the first week-long backpack trip using them (where our group communally packed dinnerware in a shared mesh bag). The collapsible silicone has relatively low resistant to damage from punctures and cuts. My bowl especially has cuts on the outer rim and damage on the folds exposed in the collapsed state. The cup has a hardened rim that helps reduce "rim damage" and when stored inside the bowl receives some protection from the bowl (but it too shows some damage). Packed this way and used with care, I believe these would last many trips.... To the product designers, I suggest providing the bowl with the same hardened rim as the cups and to provide better packing guidance to the user (or to provide packing protection along with the product?). In my case... my cookware carries a nested burner with no good protective "open spot" to store and protect these... so I think they were a 1-trip item for me and I'll return to using my rigid bowl / mug on my future trips.

Correct Size for Gas Cannister
5 December 2019Gazelle

I bought this bowl specifically to combat freezing of a gas cannister at low temperatures. Especially problematic when melting snow during winter camping, the gas pressure release rapidly cools the cannister well below freezing. The propane/butane mix remains liquid at these temperatures reducing typical gas stove output to that of a standard bic lighter. How to keep the fuel liquid? Simple. Place your fuel cannister in the Sea to Summit X-Bowl with a small amount of water to cook or melt snow for prolonged times. The water will, eventually, freeze again and allow the cannister to freeze, but this technique greatly extends the time a fuel cannister can be used. Last weekend this added ~20minutes to my snow melting time at 15F ambient.

Decent collapsible bowl

I like how the bowl is very collapsible and portable. However, beware that when having something hot (like a recently prepared soup or oatmeal) on trail, the bowl heats up too much to be handled. I love the design, but not the material so much, but one can't have both! Also like how it doubles up as a cutting board!

Easily stackable and versatile bowl
31 August 2022

I bought 5 bowls for our family and am impressed with how little space the bowls take up. They are super versatile. We used them as bowls, cutting board and even small plates. They are the size of a cereal or small soup bowl, so not huge but it still worked really well for us.

Fell apart after two uses - cool idea though.
26 August 2022

The cutting-board as a base is a cool idea, but executed poorly. There is a beveled edge that the silicone sits in to keep it attached, and the mounting points are very small. Picture a dot of silicone half the size of a grain of rice. The dots are made of the silicone, and easily pop out of the edge, letting the bowl leak at the bottom. I'll be sticking to one-piece silicone bowls in the future.

Great product, smaller than expected though
22 December 2022

A great standard bowl. It was a bit smaller than expected, but still helpful and easy to use. Better for breakfast or smaller portions. Not big enough for a full dinner or most backpacking meals. Do love how all the sea to summit bowls flatten and stack within each other.

I'd go with a KUMA bowl over the Sea to Summit
13 May 2022

I'm comparing this bowl with the KUMA bowl. The KUMA has a detachable plastic ring around the top giving the bowl better support. The material is also a little thicker, it just has a more stable feel.I almost dumped the contents a few times in the Sea to Summit X-Bowl because it's flimsy.

Packs flat!
1 November 2022

I purchased the Sea to Summit x-bowl for an upcoming camp trip. It is a great, multi-functional bowl that packs flat and is made of flexible food grade silicone. With a sturdy base, it holds it's form. Great for backpacking or camping or whenever you are short on space. It also comes in a variety of colours to suit your needs. Will likely purchase a match cup, as well. Recommend!

Sea to Summit X-Bowl
30 September 2022

I've had these bowls for a few years and they perform well. The X-mug nests inside it and the X-bowl in the X-plate if you're so inclined. The bowls clean easily and do not hold odors. There are measurements in imperial and metric on the inside and the bowl is sturdy even when mostly full. There are lighter options from other companies but these collapse and save on space so you have to weight what's most important.

nifty concept but with a fatal design flaw
24 March 2023

I bought this two weeks ago and went camping. It is advertised as a multipurpose bowl, plate, and chopping board all in one that collapses. It does all of these things well, except for the chopping board part. This is moreso a caution for using the smaller bowls as chopping boards, when you have the bowl flattened you need to keep the knife your cutting with STRICTLY in the confines of that plastic grey base. I was (haphazardly so) chopping a big onion on this and unknowingly knicked a tiny hole in the silicone. If only there was some sort of plastic strip that would circumvent that from every happening. The intergrity of the bowl is now diminished and it can no longer function as a bowl for any liquids...Obviously I couldn't get a refund because the damaged was ... MoreI bought this two weeks ago and went camping. Disappointed!

Unbreakable! Collapses completely flat for packing! Sea to Summit's X-Bowl, X-Plate and X-Mug hold warm or cold liquids and are freestanding with flexible silicone sides. The X-Mug has a flat rigid ring around the rim to keep it sturdy and easy to drink from. The rigid ring maintains the shape of the X-Mug yet still allows it to be collapsed to a disk that will fit in the palm of your hand! The X-Bowl and X-Plate have a hard nylon scratch-resistant base for cutting and chopping. All three flatten to the same 15 mm profile and nest inside each other - the X-Mug inside the X-Bowl which nests inside the X-Plate. The sides are made from food-grade flexible silicone that can withstand temperatures of hot foods and nearby hot surfaces. All three are manufactured from FDA and EU compliant materials.
