I already had one before I bought another one and I still love it! Double the power for my new tank, just what I needed. The only thing I forgot to add to my normal weekly cleaning, is to clean the propeller and the outside filter as well. I hadn’t done that ever since I bought my first one about 1.5 years ago and it finally gave out on me. Had to use a knife to pry open the holder for the propeller since all that grime was stuck on there. After rinsing out all the grime in each part I opened, and then resembling it back together, it finally worked again. So, with both filters I need to keep up with maintenance instead of just leaving it alone. Don’t forget to do that and your filter will last a lifetime. It’s worth that time and effort, it’s a wonderful product.

This HOB is the bomb. Great flow, great filtration, large tank for media. I bought this so I would have a skimmer filter in addition to my Fluval 407 canister filter. I’ve had it for 2 months and had no problems. Always starts back up when it’s turned off for tank maintenance. Very happy with product.

Best thing I've ever bought for a tank.

I can't fault it ,they literally thought of everything. the pump is in the water so its very quiet , it has a pop up indicator to tell you if it needs cleaning , a large tray for media,you can remove the tray and it clips onto the lid so you dont spill water everywhere , you can adjust the intake and the flow ,you can remove the media basket without moving or switching off the filter and it self fills so if you have power outtage it will start up again with no problems. there is a cable tidy and a holding clip you can attach to the side for a heater and it has a surface skimmer. the only thing that might be a problem is the intake,small fry would be sucked through the gaps but that can be solved by placing sponge inside the skimmer and sponge over the intake pipe. i ... MoreI can't fault it ,they literally thought of everything. the pump is in the water so its very quiet , it has a pop up indicator to tell you if it needs cleaning , a large tray for media,you can remove the tray and it clips onto the lid so you dont spill water everywhere , you can adjust the intake and the flow ,you can remove the media basket without moving or switching off the filter and it self fills so if you have power outtage it will start up again with no problems. there is a cable tidy and a holding clip you can attach to the side for a heater and it has a surface skimmer. the only thing that might be a problem is the intake,small fry would be sucked through the gaps but that can be solved by placing sponge inside the skimmer and sponge over the intake pipe. i cannot recommend this filter enough , love it.

Noisy!
28 September 2021

Bought 2 of these for a new 75 gallon tank. Product is very very noisy, bypasses with anything but the sponge in it on full flow. Did I mention they are noisy & rattle like they are full of rocks? How noisy? I have to turn up TV to cover the rattling noise at full flow. Even pulled impeller out, shaft axle is a very sloppy fit & probably has a lot to do with the rattling. Why no bushing or bearing where shaft passes through the plastic? Very cheap build! I lubed the very dry shaft & it was better for about 10 minutes, then back to noisy. Right now, I have the output on both 75's cranked down to 1/2 flow. Why would I buy 2 75's that I'm turning down to a 55 or 35 just to use the bagged media it came with? Set at 1/2 flow, running the sponge & media it came with & the float is up- telling me time to clean! It's brand new running on an empty tank that's fishless cycling. So disappointed. I also bought polishing pads for it too & more Seachem charcoal to run later- no way will that work! Wish I never bought it. I even did all the online hacks & those didn't work. I guess I'm stuck with it now. I have the Tidal 35 on a smaller tank & I can't even hear it running sitting right next to it. Not the case with the 75's. I can't trust these 2 75 HOB's cranked to half flow to keep up witha proposed African Cichlid tank now. What a wast of 2 weeks messing with them.

Seachem filters

They are well made and does a wonderful filtering job in 40-gallon tanks and smaller. Would recommend them to anyone. The intake can have a piece of foam on it some to prevent smaller fish or babies from going through it. Easy to clean and can put all types of filtration products in it. I use phosphate and nitrate pads and bio home in mine.

a little buzzing noise from the motor but it is still extremely quiet
24 May 2020

One of the best hang on back filters on the market. Filter media tray is extremely well built with a lot of space for any type of media. The lid acts as a drip tray when doing maintenance which you may think you won't use but trust me, its extremely useful. Added filter floss ontop of the blue sponge and below the bio media it comes with and i put sponge at the intake to shrimp proof it.The only con is the last point but its a very specific use case. Its hard to shrimp proof as it isn't the usual tube that hob filters have. It has 2 intakes as well as an opening down the very bottom. The slight buzzing noise is also a letdown for a filter of this price especially when using such a high quality motor from a reputable motor brand. But i heard that this goes away ... MoreOne of the best hang on back filters on the market. Filter media tray is extremely well built with a lot of space for any type of media. first off, wall clearance needed is not 3 inches, my tank is 3 7/16 away from the wall, i have abut 1/8 inch clearance from the filter to the wall. The heater holder is meh, weak hold. Cleaning the media off is pretty painless, just lift out the insert and walk off with it. It must be copepod heaven because all the big ones accumulate in the area outside the insert. After almost 3 months of use and being lazy not cleaning the pump, flow was reduced to about 75%. After cleaning out the sponges that decided to grow in the pump it was performing like new.

let down
28 October 2021

It is said that this is the best filter money can buy. It seems powerful and the water is clear but I am constantly netting small debris out that the filter doesn't pick up, little floaters everywhere. Part of the electrical cord is submerged because the motor is underwater, I don't like that. And the filter and motor are in a black box about 6" x 8" that hangs inside the tank, very ugly and hard to hide. I did alot of reseach pior to my purchase and I'm very disappointed and plan to return it.

Seachem Tidal Power Filter 55

$60.00

(13 reviews)

Seachem Tidal 55 External Hang on Filter Tidal Power Filters are designed from the ground up to provide your aquarium with high-quality, comprehensive filtration. They are easy to use and adaptable to a variety of aquarium conditions. With a host of features including a self-priming pump, dual water intake with surface skimmer, adjustable flow, maintenance monitor, self-cleaning impeller, and a filter basket that holds any kind of filtration media - and more of it - Tidal Power Filters are designed to deliver the highest water quality possible with maximum versatility and ease of use. They are suited to a wide variety of aquarium setups from saltwater to freshwater, ranging in size from 200 litres to 400 Litres. The pump is also insulated and silent, making it excellent for office or dining room aquariums, and has extremely low power consumption for the amount of output – the large Tidal 110 filter uses only 12 watts. Over time, filtration media can become clogged with detritus and prevent water from flowing through. When this happens in the Tidal Filter, water is redirected around the filter and back into the aquarium through an outlet to the side. When this happens, the redirected water pushes up the blue maintenance monitor on the top of the filter, letting the aquarium keeper know that the filter media needs to be cleaned out. A heater can be attached to the side with an optional heater clip, allowing for better dispersal of heated water through the aquarium. The adjustable telescoping intake allows water to be taken from any level of the tank without the need to stop the filter or bother with spare parts. All Tidal Filters come with Seachem's Matrix bio-media to get you started.
