I was so happy to get this for my family's ps4 because we needed more storage we were tired of having to delete games just to make room for updates or new games. The Seagate 4TB external drive is perfect for the PlayStation 5. Once the USB cable is plugged in, the system recognizes it immediately and all of your PS4 games can be transferred and stored in it. Recently I picked up a PS4 Pro and quickly was filling up the console storage. Decided to look at a few different external portable HDD. Felt that the 2TB drive would meet my storage demands. This drive was Official Licensed for Playstation. Normally that means a slightly higher price point, but this was a great deal. Connected the drive with the provided cable to my PS4 Pro and formatted the drive. Moved my downloaded games over to the new drive. Took a good day, but was well worth it. It’s a one star because it is misleading. Please beware when purchasing this. It is capable of holding both ps4 and Ps5 games. HOWEVER, this is where it gets the one star, IT CANNOT CARRY BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY. When plugging into my ps4 to download the games it asked me to set it up a certain way, X-fat file. When connected to os5 to download games it says it doesn’t have the proper storage device attached. So in order to download ps4 games it must be formatted in a way that it no longer works to download Ps5 games UNLESS you delete your ps4 games and reformat. I wish I had known this before I bought the one with a bigger memory because I ended up needing two separate external drives not one with bigger memory. l
Sadly i had to return this the day after I bought it. Reason is on the back of box it saids that it can store PS5 games. Sadly it doesnt. This storage device would be a great add on for PS5 games but when I hooked it up to my PS5 the internal system only registers it as a storage device for PS4 games only. Maybe if sony and seagate would fix this issue so customers wouldn't waste their time and money on a product that only works on the previous gaming console. When I explained this when I returned it they didnt hesitate to give me a refund. I would only recommend this to someone who owns a PS4 that needs extra storage.
I bought this for my PS4 Pro. Easy to use. Great storage. One major flaw. I don't know, why but after getting so much downloaded onto it it would crash my PS4; and, upon reboot it would tell me that the hard-drive had to be repaired. (The system does this itself). So I did so about 5 times before I warrantied it thinking it was a faulty unit. Next one did the same. Finally I got a WD instead and it has never given me problems. I do NOT recommend buying this extended harddrive for the PS4 Pro. I cant speak for other version but it didn't like the Pro.
I would advise anyone to do their research before buying this, thinking it might work for their PlayStation 5. It will only work for PlayStation 4 Games and Media. The first one I bought solely holds my PS4 games and works fine, but these will not work for PS5 games and media. Furthermore, the way the PlayStation 5 operates, it will not let you play games from an external hard drive. You can only export games to the hard drive, but when you want to play them, you must redownload the game from the hard drive back to the internal before you can play it. Now you know, do with this information, what you will. I’m not going to blame the product for best buys poor marketing. The first one I bought worked exactly for what I needed. Now I just have an extra.

First one only lasted 6 months but I was unfortunate and didn’t purchase the geek squad insurence and couldn’t return it or get it fixed. Then when it turned back on the games saved wouldn’t work due to being corrupted so I would have to uninstall and reinstall. Even though I never did any changes to the game. What I found though was that then PS4 is getting over saturated on the USB power demand from the external HD device that there is insufficient power support output to the other USB port. As mentioned, this is a testing analysis from my side but it is what I came up with after several trail/error solution attempts. So, to prove this out I removed the USB attached EXTERNAL HD, installed an INTERNAL 2TB HD (Barracuda 2TB 5400RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5" Internal Hard Drive), and tested this method. Voila! (Ready Player One quote). Gaming headset restored and I freed up the second USB port (first one being used for wireless headset adapter) to be used as a controller charger again. As mentioned, this external hard drive functions with the exception of using the other USB port in parallel as it can cause device performance degradation to the secondary device. Installation was easy - plugged it in and then plugged it into the Xbox, formatted, and was ready to go. Only downside is no rubber feet on the flat surface so it is made to stand up. I feel it would be more stable as a USB hub on the flat... Storage capacity and speed - excellent! High speed USB information transfers as well as a huge amount of storage make this a no brainer. USB hub - so far have only used this to charge my controllers and so far so good. Looks - wish they had the black one to match better but it was a small price to pay for the performance.
