Whether it be a cable, hard drive, SD Card or flash drive, retrieval of lost data is a real pain. So, spend good money, not cheap money. Buy good gear, not cheap gear. Now you know why I bought this Seagate HDD. With the higher spec'd ones unavailable, it was either cheap, unknown and fast, or a reliable, strong Seagate Barracuda and 5400rpm instead of 7200rpm. No regrets. What little time is lost waiting, is more than made up for when compared to recovery time from a dead drive.Remember, the cheapest real option is 'STRONG, RELIABLE, TRUSTWORTHY'.

As pointed out by another reviewer, these drives are SMR. I my experience the writing speed falls off as the disk becomes close to full. However for most of the drive the write speed is good, and as long as you do not wish to fill it up to the brim all that is missing is some dollars of the price tag.If you want to fill it to the brim and/or put it in a NAS there are drives which are more suited for this purpose, albeit that they cost slightly more.Drive not noisy.

Pros: Fantastic amount of spaceCons: VERY noisy drive. I have a silent system and use nVME for aplications and hard drives for mass media storage. The Western Digital Blue drives I have are quiet but this Seagate drive sounds like a rocket engine by comparison, so much that when not getting used I disable the drive in Windows hardware manager.

Decided to replace my 2x2TB SSHDs with 2 of these 6TB drives and put them in RAID 0, they are much faster than the SSHDs, not just in Raid but 1 on 1 these drives are faster, but this way I can utilize both drives and not have 1 being used and 1 sitting idle. They aren't super quiet but they're not loud unless you decide to copy and heap of stuff. Some people might not like the fact they are 5400RPM, and not 7200RPM, but it probably won't make much difference for gaming. Only thing I don't like is Seagate don't put them in a box, they were just in an anti static packet wrapped in bubble wrap. If you want lots of storage for gaming, this drive will do just fine.
There was something wrong with my Seagate HDD. I added it to my Windows Storage Spaces pool of drives and initially the HDD was recognized. When I tried to format the new HDD, it errored out with a critical HDD failure. Worse yet, it crashed my entire Storage Spaces Storage Pool and I ended up losing months of files that could not be recovered. So, bad on Storage Spaces and bad on Seagate. I sent the Seagate HDD back for exchange, and I hope the replacement HDD will work. Unfortunately, my lost files on the Storage Space pool were lost forever despite having built in 2-way and 3-way redundancy on the Storage Pool. Next time I will be separately formatting and running tests on the new HDD before attempting to add it to my system.
I bought this 22 months ago as a third back up - films, photos, document scans. It worked fine for this purpose in Windows 10 until yesterday when it just failed. The drive is not recognised - worse than that it prevents my PC from booting, When I disconnect the drive the boot sequence (SSD) runs perfectly.
The drive is a Segate 6Tb Barracuda and even brand new drives occasionally have faults. I didn't suspect there would be the necessity to replace the drive so I waited till the return of my tech to diagnose it. By then it became painfully evident that whatever warranty interval was long since expired. I don't have a problem with Segate hardrives in general but any electro-mechanical device is bound to either fail after use or fail to perform properly from the start. I suppose I should have pulled it out immediately and sought a RMA so a new one could replace it. It looks like a harddrive but isn't one & never has been. I give it one egg for that.
I own 7 BarraCuda drives smallest one being 2tb largest a 8tb and these drives are solid performers at a great price. I started upgrading my 2tb and 3tb for larger drives last year as some of my drives i have had many years with no problems. The new drives are all being put inside my pc and the older drives which some may be 7 years old have been popped in a external enclosure as they are such great performers i know i will still get many more years use out of them. Seagate make solid drives at affordable prices other than my NVMe and and my old ssd i have always purchased Seagate they are really reliable drives.
So I took the chance with this one seeing the negitive reviews, and the postive reviews. Said screw it lets see what happens. "HDD sold as component of OEM solution and not for resale." Thats the first problem. So What part swap nerd yanked this out of a external enclosers and put it in a box? It didn't even spin up to speed. I could hear it hum up and down, but never heard the head actually move in there. Then it just stopped. Not buying another one. Not buying a seagate again. And Seagate, don't bother responding. This is going right back to whatever 3rd party seller that you need to have a conversation with.
Disclaimer: This drive has only been installed and running for a few days and is being used a storage drive running along side an SSD which is hosting the OS. This drive is also NOT part of any RAID configuration; it is standalone. That having been said... So far this drive has been performing very well. No noise, no issues with the OS detecting the drive, and no issues formatting (started as FAT32, then moved to NTFS to allow for larger image files). I've uploaded over 1TB of data already with no degradation and I'm pulling nearly true SATA3 (6Gb/s) performance. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for expanded storage on a desktop system.
