The product that shipped to me was defective🙂; I tried everything that needed to be done, including soft ways such as going to file explorer and clicking this pc but it didn't show, going to command Promnt, Run, Partitions on including hard ways such as trying to plugin and plug out the sata and I'm not sure what we called it power source connector but it didn't work, I have a lot of expectations on this store but I expect the unexpected☹️. Tho the chat support agent or service naman is very accommodating But the turnilyo, ang pricy ng product nyo guys sana naman kahit papaano meron din into, sobrang abala guys to be honest.

As the title suggests, this is nothing but a functional hard drive. It performs like a hard drive, even sounds like a hard drive. From my experience, nearly all hard drives are the same given that they spin at the same speeds, the only difference usually is longevity...I had this hard drive for almost a year now, I've written a bit more than 10TB to it in the course of that time, and already it's starting to show its age. Currently, if I put this hard drive into a hot swappable drive bay, it would vibrate hard enough to cause the tray to clatter against the bay (a very unpleasing sound). It just rubs that sore by also introducing a screeching noise whenever it is being used, the source unknown, I would suppose it's the platter against the spindle. Despite that, it ... Despite that, it still functions perfectly fine, albeit with abit of annoyance. In general, this is below my expectations and generally I would only recommend this as a drive for mass game storage or otherwise unimportant and/or backed-up files. Take a look at Toshiba or WD drives if you want to buy storage for important purposes.

In the past decades, hard drive capacity been growing and beginning to break down a lot easier. Yes, the hard drive companies been giving utilities to clone, back up, check hard drive status. But never any to keep them maintained, like defrag or sector repair. Been going through Hard drive break downs a lot easier today, specially SSDs. Not only the Hard drive alone, but pcb boards. Ever try to replace one?..... Very expensive for just board replacement. I have one hard drive put away with very important files. Hard drives turns off and on by itself. I check for power shutdown timer in windows, and it is not the problem. Other hard drives slow down. So once in awhile I have to keep buying hard drives and cloning, and backing up. I bought this Seagate Barracuda to replace another Seagate that I had for 4 years. The new one failed in less than two months. Yes, luckily, because I bought it from Best Buy and not Amazon, it is not an OEM, so it's under warranty. However, the warranty from this hard drive company and probably others is a cruel joke. First you have to turn in your drive with perhaps sensitive information on it, then they give you a refurbished replacement, for instance someone else's turned in hard drive. Yes, it doesn't matter how young your drive is, they can give you old equipment. I guess that's what limited means. I'm sure they know that most people won't turn in their hard drives, which is why this is a great deal for them. Too bad they can't test it, remotely using smartctl ... Terrible distracting vibrations as the head seeks. A loud (faster spinning) drive would mask that noise a bit, but this one being otherwise quiet really slaps you in the face with the noise when the drive is active. According to their technical specs, this thing is dead silent, but mount it to a case and the vibration turns it into a speaker, amplifying the head noise. You really need to suspension mount it with foam or similar. Performance would start okay for quite a while, then go horribly, horribly slow for a long stall out, before getting back to normal speeds again. I've tracked it down to the software I have probing the drive's temperature. Either there's a bug in the drive electronics, or it's just so underpowered that requesting that SMART data while the ... I've tracked it down to the software I have probing the drive's temperature. Either there's a bug in the drive electronics, or it's just so underpowered that requesting that SMART data while the drive is quite busy reading/writing will stall out the drive for up to a couple minutes at a time. It's horrid, and not something I've had any issue with, with other brands of drives. The read/write performance is pretty disappointing. An 8TB WD Red (not """"""""pro"""""""" either) with similar RPM rate, reads/writes 33% faster than this 8TB Segate. That's no small difference, but a huge bottleneck when backing up or restoring your data. I'd put up with it, if not for all the other problems. The warranty terms are pretty nasty, too. Not only is it just a 2 year warranty, but they have strict limits on how much data you can read/write to your drive in the warranty period. If you happen to backup your drive a lot, or regularly zero/scrub it for secure data deletion, or anything else like that, you can find your warranty void much earlier, for no good reason. And you'll only discover that after having paid to ship your drive back to them. And for all these drawbacks... Seagate drives are barely any cheaper than WD drives. I have no affiliation with either WD or Seagate. I used to prefer Seagate drive, many years ago, but they seem to have really given up and fallen behind their one major competitor. Even as I have issues with WD drives and decide to try Seagate again, I find they've only gotten worse along the way. AVOID!
So what can be special about a hard drive? Well I've read only one other review of this particular one saying it failed on the first day. So I decided to run a few tests to see if it was really a bad drive like the other user said. First I replaced another drive in my system with this one and started up Paragon Hard Disk Manager. If you have never used it before it is a very good program to test and verify Hard Drives. First I did a surface test, you have 2 choices normal and extreme, I choose extreme and ran the test. It takes a while so go do something else and come back in a few hours. What it does is writes to the entire drive and verify what it wrote is the same. What it does is writes to the entire drive and verify what it wrote is the same. One thing worth mentioning is this one tested much faster then an older drive I had of the same size. Then I did a wipe of the drive and all went fine. I have always had very good luck with the reliability with Seagate drives and after 4 hours of read and write non stop tests I don't expect this one to fail. Write speed impressed me so much so I had to do it a couple of times. I was coping from a OCZ pciex4 ssd so read speeds are about 795MB/s limiting the read bottleneck. Write speeds on a 7gb file started at 320MB/s and tapered off to 165MB/s for the last few seconds and coping the same file back to the ssd was 1.5TB/s at first then dropping to 280MB/s for the last third of the write suggesting this Drive could maintain a 280MB/s read speed and a 165 MB/s write speed. Not bad for a $50 drive. Worth mentioning is this drive is thinner then most drives and lighter also, suggesting it is using high density platters, thus fewer of them. Update 11/16/16 Sorry to say the drive failed a week after this first review. Tried on both a PC with windows and a Mac. Under windows seagates "seatools for windows" would just hang trying to id the drive after windows finally booted after it seemed like forever trying to id the drive. Unders Mac os 10.9 disk utility came back with a failure as unable to read the last block. Also tried to format with a windows 10 setup cd, also failed. Went to Seagates website and did a RMA. Found out I had to pay return shipping and if they don't find anything wrong then they will also charge me for return shipping to me. Very poor in my opinion. When a product fails I believe the manufacturer should be paying shipping both ways especially after less then a month.
