I had bought 3 of these for off-site backups of my data. 2 of them died within a year. This must be why Seagate reduced the warranty to 1 year. WD or HGST seem to be the safer choice according to the backblaze hard-drive reliability stats for q1 2016

No luck for me. I've tried the various Seagate programs to re-partition and reformat large drives and I still can't get this 3TB drive to show more than 746GB available no matter how I format or partition it. I should have stuck with a 2TBdrive that most systems would recognize. I've tried this on Windows 7 and Windows 8. I got greedy for storage and paid the price. A waste of money for me- hope you folks have better luck. I can't trust it to be dependable at 746GB- so it's garbage.

Wow Great Hard drive, Fast and stable. Just for people who dont know this, Make sure to convert the format of the HD to GPT using disk management in order to use all three TB, other wise you will only be able to use 2 TB with 700 not being able to be used. Also I would not recommend this HD for a Windows Boot HD only because you cannot boot Windows using GPT, so again you would only be using 2 TB. Over all I am very happy with this Hard drive!

Needed another drive to build into a RAID 1 drive enclosure. This was a non-critical application so a used drive was acceptable. The drive came well packaged and was able to mirror to the existing drive with no issues.
The item performed to my expectations, it is as fast as advertised and had the amount of space that was advertised as well. No false advertisement.
The best for the money that I bayed it. It has some difficults for installing on old motherboard (not UEFI BIOS). I solved this problem in the following way: 1. I startup my computer with Acronics 2. I have to "initialize" the HDD itself as GPT and then format the space as NTFS. 3. Start computer Normally with Windows7, windows still doesn't see the disk. 4. Open disk management and assotiate the disk with some letter (D,E,...) 5. Enjoy from capacity and speed of your new disk. Best regards Svetlana
Seagate 3TB HDD was in perfect working order which made it the perfect candidate for the parts I needed to recover my old HDD that died. I was able to recover the files from my old hard drive by swapping out some parts from this working drive. For the price, this saved me several hundred dollars. I would buy this again.
I bought 2 of these drives to add to a new Seagate ST3000DM001 so I could make a storage pool for my new Skylake build. Running an Asrock Z170 Exteme 7 with an i7 6700 chip and will be using the system for my Plex server and for photoshop and video editing. I setup the storage pool with parity and am very pleased with my speed...the write speed runs a solid 45MB/s and the read speeds run a consistent 380 MB/s. Most of the reviews on a Parity Pool Storage was predicitng 30/250 MB/s. I have an 512gb ssd for messing with 4k, so the pool is just for the plex storage, photos (I have over 100,000 loaded onto it so far) and streaming 4k. fyi. Out of the 9tb's between 3 drives, I ended up with 5.4tb available using Parity...my understanding is that when I add another 3tb ... MoreI bought 2 of these drives to add to a new Seagate ST3000DM001 so I could make a storage pool for my new Skylake build. Very pleased with my setup right now..
These have had mixed reviews on the Internet, Many DOA, but these were used with some hours on them. So far I have had them over a month and they seem to be working well in a Raid 1 environment. Also they hibernate in the Synology NAS until needed. You can take a little more risk with Raid 1, as if a Hard Drive dies you should have time to get another one installed and rebuilt in a few days. Still I have an external USB drive that automatically makes a full folder backup every 2 days. All units are on a UPS and I have never had an issue with Synology products, or a HD failure, in the last 8 years.
First hard drive with 3(!) platters by 1TB. Coolest from 3TB competitors. Fastest (7200 rpm) from all known HDDs in that price an capacity range. Sequential Read/Write speed near 170/160, Random - 70/75 Highly recommended to upgrade firmware to CC4H to "fix" audible clicks when head is parking. It's a feature from all "Green" Hard Drives. Be aware, that not all Drives are supporting that firmware.
