These are good drives at a good price but you absolutely MUST disable their EPC power down features and upgrade their firmware before you use them. Their default behaviour is horrendously noisy and in a home use situation they will be constantly head parking.

These drives are fast, cheap for a big drive (on special at least) but their major drawback is that they are incredibly loud at stock. The aggressive power saving intended for enterprise servers (or the stock firmware which was the SN02 rather than SN04) with massive rackmounts means it's constantly head parking, and is just generally stupidly loud.If you get these be sure to update the firmware and disable the EPC using seagate tools first. If you don't know how to google for that and then to do it, then these aren't drives for you.

Pros: Good solid drive for mass storage, with (at time of purchase) the most economical cost per TB.Cons: As an enterprise drive it’s louder than many consumer drives, also speed in single disk setups is only ok, but in raid (which is what it is for) it really shines.

Newegg's sale price makes these enterprise drives great value! The Seagate's spec sheet shows newest X18 revision is ~25% better at 4KB random writes vs. X16. Remaining specs between the two revisions are insignificant. Depending on your type of workload this may not be a big deal.
Put four of these in a Synology RS1619xs+ and I get 42TB of useable space in RAID 5 with full 10 GbE download speeds and about 500 MB/s write speeds. I've written at least 70 TB over the course of 1,650 hours to the array so far and no hiccups or bad sectors. It of course takes a few years to find out how good these truly are but they are off to a great start. ST16000NM000J seems to be an updated version of Seagate's 16TB enterprise drives with a bit more sustained speed. I had some bad luck with the first generation of 12TB Ironwolf drives so I'm going to be sticking with Exos for the foreseeable future, plus they are actually less expensive in most cases.
Good price for an server class helium drive. It comes with an HP mounting bracket, which I didn't need so I removed it. This required removing some very hard set screws -- I needed to use a pair of vise grips to turn the screwdriver.
Pros: Excellent drive, 16TB to play with. Nowhere near as noisy as people make out, my 2 are silent. Occasional flickering noise but barely audible. Nice fast transfer speeds, much faster than any other drive I own. I don't normally buy Seagate, but at the price, it was a no brainer.Well happy, will buy more if the price drops again. Can't comment on reliability, these are only days old.Cons: None.
I use the drive to store large video files on my PC and was a little concerned when some people mentioned noise.I have written to and from this drive multiple times with no discernible noise from the drive. So far a solid drive at a good price.
Did a lot of research from HDD review websites. This 16TB Exos X18 HDD seems to be the most reasonable choice for now (great price). Not regretting the purchase - with 5 years warranty and so far so good. It is working great on my Synology 918+.
Bought 3 of these to put in a ZFS1 TrueNas setup about a month ago. Reasonable price for these, but these are actual RETAIL drives that give you the full 5 years of warranty directly from Seagate; you can buy the same one from Amazon for cheaper but those are OEM drives that are warrantied thru some 3rd party seller, which is not worth it in my book. These are running at warmish temps in my cramped box, but running nice and fast. Constant write speeds that max out my networks 1GB connection; and my Plex server feeds these to my networked Nvidia Shields even at uncompressed 4k video just fine. Overall, solid drives, and unfortunately time will tell if these have issues and are reliable, but thanks to them being Retail drives with 5yr warranties, I dont feel like I'm ...
